Kat Von D True Romance Eyeshadow Palette in Ladybird

Kat Von D Ladybird Palette

The Kat Von D True Romance Eyeshadow Palette in Ladybird (anyone watch King of the Hill?) is the latest palette from the brand and when I recently had a 20% off promo, I knew I needed it.

I didn’t buy it because it looked that interesting or unique though. I bought it because I am OBSESSED with collecting these for some random reason! I feel this overwhelming urge to posses these palettes before I even look at the colors inside. Ah well, at least I don’t do this with any other palettes.

Ladybird features eight matte shadows as well as a mini Autograph Pencil liner in Immortal Love (dark brown).

Für Elise, Vespertine, Renholdër, Siouxsie-Sioux

Kat Von D Ladybird Swatches
Für Elise, Vespertine, Renholdër, Siouxsie-Sioux (over primer)

Für Elise is a deep eggplant purple.

Vespertine is a pale warm vanilla.

Renholdër is a medium taupe.

Siouxsie-Sioux is a deep charcoal with very slight sheen.

I found all four of these shades to be pretty nice over a primer. They are nicely pigmented and I don’t get that chalky, patchy feeling like with some matte shadows. Vespertine was on the verge of feeling chalky though. You can build them up a bit, which is nice. I love Siouxsie-Sioux.

Kat Von D Ladybird Palette-6
Unrequited, Harlow, Wölf, Cleopatra

Kat Von D Ladybird Swatches-2
Unrequited, Harlow, Wölf, Cleopatra, Immortal Love (over primer)

Unrequited is a very pale warm tan.

Harlow is a medium cork.

Wölf is a deep warm reddish/brown.

Cleopatra is a deep burnt orange.

Immortal Love liner is a dark chocolate brown.

These four were decent, but maybe not as nice as the first four. Unrequited barely shows up on me, I think it would make a nice “under the brow bone” shade though. Wolf and Cleopatra were a little patchy feeling at first. I love the Immortal Love pencil, great creamy dark brown shade.

Overall: Well here goes. It’s my least favorite Kat Von D Palette I think. One because I just am not that into these kinds of warm colors. But also I prefer more of a mix between mattes and shimmers. The first four shades are more my speed and tend to be cooler-toned. If it was split up between the two sides I would have just bought the first four! But do I regret buying it? No! The collector in me still likes it on some level. :)

Availability: Sephora.

Pricing: $36.00.

What do you think about this palette, is it something you would be interested in? Do you like all matte palettes or prefer a mix of finishes?

I really like this palette (but I do prefer warm tones anyway). And I think the orange was a nice addition. Thanks, Kelly!

I just got this from the sephora sale and haven’t had a chance to play with it yet. I *loves* me some warm colors, and this actually looks more like fall to me, but I’m not really seasonal, so I’ll wear it all the time! Thanks for the swatches – I haven’t even opened the flippin’ box it comes in yet – just know I have it! :)Dopey me – need to play with my new goodies!

It definitely looks like a fall palette, I agree!

I’m definitely interested in this one…I LOVE matte palettes. I feel like matte eyeshadows are much easier to wear than shimmery ones. And they seem like basics. This palette looks gorgeous!

I just bought this, and I *love* it. However, I do wish that instead of the burnt orange shade, a deep, forest green would have been included (I, too, am drawn to the left “quad”, as I prefer cooler tones), but I’m determined to figure out how to make it work, LOL. I also prefer a mix of finishes, but since I have most of her palettes, with sooo many shimmery shadows, I picked this up as more of a “companion” palette.

Mmm a nice deep green would have been great.

I also love a mix of shimmer and matte! And if I have to choose only matte. So this palette is kind of boring to me. x

I love the idea of a matte palette like this from Kat von D because, like you, for some reason I just… love the Kat von D makeup products. Maybe not so much the palettes but the foundation and eye liners are pretty nice. I’d probably pass on this though because my Ben Nye neutral palette has the best mattes I have ever used, although they are different colors & tones (maybe not as interesting as these colors).

Meh :/ Kat’s stuff looks really cool from the palette photo but then I’m always disappointed in the swatches.

I just got this one too! I bought it specifically because it is all matte. I like to wear them with my more shimmery shadows; I like a mix of textures. I haven’t used it too much yet, (my collection is largeish ;) ) but I do like what I’ve tried.

I also like that they are all matte :)

I love a good matte shadow, but I think my stila In the Know palette pretty much covers my bases there.

I’m going to pass on this one .. I don’t think the colors would look good on me. I do have KVD Beethoven and love it!

Looks really nice to me, especially since they’re all mattes. I don’t care for 100% shimmer palettes but I do like 100% matte. There’s enough contrasting shades to make the super duper warm shades more wearable. And there’s no dumb cream shadow in sight! :P

I actually like the looks of the second 4 more than the first! :P haha, but that’s just me… I like more soft, neutral colors.
