T-Shirt Inspired Polka Dot Mani

Blue, green, pink, purple polka dot mani

Today I’ve got a T-shirt inspired polka dot mani.

Target has some really cool multi-colored striped t-shirts out right now and I recently picked up two. I showed them on my Instagram account and someone mentioned they would make a cool manicure. So I wound up with this idea!

For this I used Orly Jealous, Much?, OPI Lucky Lucky Lavender, Color Club In The Limelight and Zoya Breezi. I also used various sizes of dotting tools.

These are the closest creams shades I could find in my collection to match the t-shirt. Pretty close I think!

Before the dots I painted on either two or three coats of the base shade and let it dry a good 15 minutes. Some of these aren’t really ideal formulas for dots since they are pretty sheer and watery.

One way to sort of remedy that is to plop the amount of polish you need for the dots onto foil (or whatever you put it on) and let it sit for a couple minutes, so it gets thicker. That helped me quite a bit, especially with Orly Jealous, Much, which is super watery.

Anyway, it’s not perfect certainly, but kind of fun and very spring-like!

I was the one who suggested this as a mani so I’m thrilled to see it in action! Really pretty!

I really like this! How long did you keep it on?

    • March 18, 2013

Just for the day. I only did these 4 fingers as I had to swatch a bunch of other stuff. Nothing lasts long on me, haha.

Love this Kelly! The colors go so well together, and you did a fabulous job with the dots. I have never tried anything like that, but with this post I think I should give it a try. Thank you for the additional tips on how to work with the polish. I will remember that!

Thank you! I am trying to improve my dots with every mani, making them more round rather than oblong which they sometimes get like…

Kelly, your dotted manicures just keep getting better! This has definitely inspired me to get a dotting tool. I think it’s probably about the only form of nail art I can ever learn to create!
