OCC Sci-Fi Lullabies Lip Tar Collection Swatches and Review

OCC Sci-Fi Lullabies Lip Tar Collection

Let’s check out the OCC Sci-Fi Lullabies Lip Tar collection for spring 2013!

There are six new shades of Lip Tar with this collection, most with a cool, unique finish.

One thing I am really happy about with the newer Lip Tars is they come with a small instruction sheet and handy brush. I think it was definitely needed because a TEENY TINY amount of these goes a long way. They definitely can’t be applied like a regular gloss lest ye wind up with bleedy globs of color running down your face. ;)

OCC Sci-Fi Lullabies Lip Tar Swatches
Lovecraft, Pris, Zhora, Batty, Annika, Clockwork

Lovecraft is an iridescent super bright pink metallic.

Pris is a metallic pale beige/pink shade. As I applied this and worked it outwards I started loving it more and more. It’s one of my favs here.

Zhora is a peach with a red/gold duochrome effect. Much cooler in person than I can capture on camera.

Batty is a metallic black with silver iridescence. It’s super cool looking! My camera freaked out with this one.

Annika is a pale cool peach. One of the less “out there” shades here.

Clockwork is a warm, deep orange. Gorgeous gorgeous shade, my favorite one. I think for the average person it’s the most wearable one, but still really vivid and intense.

Overall: If you are into lip shades that are a little different and have interesting finishes, you might just love this collection. But don’t fret because those who want something more understated can still find a few options here like Clockwork, Annika and Pris. Ok Pris is a little futuristic looking but it’s more subtle! I think I shall be adding Pris on top of tons of lipsticks to see what happens. :)

Availability: OCC, Sephora.

Pricing: $18.00 for 0.33 oz.

See anything here you shall be snatching up?

I would love to mix Annika and Clockwork. Clockwork is lovely on its own.

I really like Clockwork! But I definitely don’t need more since it will take me forever to finish up even a tube of these! I always love your lip swatches though :)

These are gorgeous colours, and I want to like OCC so much, I really do. They carry a blue for the lips, or at least did the last and only time I ordered from them, but wow, their customer service was nowhere near acceptable in my experience. I ordered one tube of tar on a Tuesday and asked a question in the comments field about shipping. This was never responded to. I paid nearly twice the cost of the tube of lip tar total once shipping was applied, and then I waited until the end of the week without a word from OCC.

No shipping notice, no polite “we’re running behind,” and nothing listed on their website to that effect either. I send a polite inquiry about the lack of shipping notice, and instead of a response the next day I get a generated mail from the USPS with my tracking number. When a website tells me their standard is a 1-2 day turnaround time, I tend to think they’re being honest.

I could put up with the price of the product itself (which seems to have gone up since I ordered, yuck.). I can deal, albeit crankily, with such high shipping costs. I will not put up with a company that won’t even talk to me. OCC may have some pretty and unique colours, but the texture and the staying power were not worth the frustration.

You’re not the only one. I have three tubes I bought at IMATS and they started leaking as soon as I opened them. And they STAIN EVERYTHING. I’ve contacted them multiple times to try and either get money back or a replacement and they have just completely ignored me as well. I don’t think I’ll ever buy anything from them again.

First let me admit that I am an OCC lip tar addict! This month alone I’ve added 17 lip tars to my collection (in all fairness, 12 were purchased at IMATS NY) so I love the product itself. I’m NOT a fan of paying shipping if I can help it and unfortunately, I don’t know if OCC ever offers free shipping. I’m also not a fan of bad CS no matter who the company is.

Wow I guess I have been lucky with OCC (no leaks especially not from those I purchased earlier this month at IMATS NY). I had one less than stellar CS experience with them during the holiday season so in a way I accept that issue because it wasn’t over the top bad and it WAS the busiest season for online retailers. I recently placed 2 orders on their website and the experience was excellent (orders placed 2 days apart during the lip tar sale for earth day weekend).

Brandi…I have no CLUE how much you could have been charged for your lip tar that the shipping would have been that high! If I’m not mistaken, the flat shipping rate for OCC orders from their website is $5. Unless you got in on one of the most amazing sales ever on their site and got a lip tar for under $3.00 I can’t imagine how you were charged so much for shipping (unless you live out of the country…not sure how much international shipping may be). Did you try calling them CS to get some answers (and complain about the lack of response to your question)?

There is nothing more I hate than terrible CS and I will admit that after my first experience I hesitated on ordering from the OCC website despite being having their Pro Discount at my disposal but after IMATS I caved in and gave them another shot during the sale I mentioned (price for me came out to IMATS pricing so I couldn’t pass that up. I think IMATS spoiled me because it’s hard to pay more now even with discount lol).

Clockwork is the only one I’d even consider. The others have nice colors, but look like streaky messes for the price. But that’s just mho.

Wait, you’re supposed to use Clear as a primer? Huh. I’ve never tried that before. Thanks for the photos and swatches! :D

These are not my cup of tea…at all.

  • March 23, 2013

Clockwork! is the only one that seems decent for me. But to be honest, don’t really like the result or the texture of the other colors.

Um…hmmm. I normally go “batty” over lip tars (sorry, couldn’t help it), but this collection just doesn’t send me. Clockwork seems like a winner, but at this price hike, I’m looking for dupe. Been buying them since their grand debut, but this is the first collection that’s left me unimpressed.

  • March 23, 2013

Not nuts about this collection, but I never knew you could prime lips with the clear!

I loved the idea of the metallic lip tars, but they are not as smooth as the cremes and a bit dry feeling on. Clockwork is definitely the standout for me from this collection.

No. I think her lips are really dry. Mine never look like that. You get especially great results if you apply “clear” first and let it dry. Then add the lip tar color.

      • August 5, 2013

Nope my lips are not really dry in these pics – they are super close up photos, so from further away you don’t see every flaw.

  • March 24, 2013

Never tried OCC Lip Tars, but Batty seems to have it’s own built in lipliner o.O

This collection is kind of all over the place (to me, anyway). Clockwork definitely seems the most wearable right out of the tube, but I think Pris would be awesome for mixing or layering. Actually, Annika and Zhora have potential too. I want to love Lovecraft so badly as the color is amazing, but the patchiness, ugh!

Does Batty really have that reddish-brownish tone I see in the picture or is that just your camera being weird, like you said? Is it like Tarred, but with specks? I bought a whole bunch of nude color samples from this girl on eBay (http://bit.ly/14Wff0R) and I really like these, but I’m sort of afraid to try the more bright colors. Ahh!

The only one I really thought looked all that great was Annika. The other ones just made the lips look old? If that’s even possible? It might just be the close up, but I wasn’t really to fond of it.

I very much like Batty…very much. and I’m pretty sure you and I have the same complexion, so I’m pretty excited that it would look good on me too ;)

    Thanks for the post :)!
