Deborah Lippmann Staccato Nail Collection for Spring 2013 Swatches & Review

Deborah Lippmann Spring 2013

The Deborah Lippmann Staccato Nail Collection is here, new for spring, and available for sale now on her site!

This collection includes three new shades, all candy-colored, milky bases with small specks of black hexagonal glitter throughout. They are very similar to the Hard Candy Candy Sprinkles shades, except those ones have more colors of glitter in them. Like the Hard Candy ones, these were all two coats for complete coverage.

As far as application, it’s pretty much a breeze. You get a lot of glitter with each coat, and it doesn’t move around much with a second coat, if at all. It stays put! What I like it some of the glitter kind of sinks into the background making it look greyish and some stays on top, which looks obviously black.

Rockin’ Robin is a mint green base with black hex glitter. This 100% reminds me of mint chocolate chip ice cream, and I want to EAT IT! But I won’t. ;)

Polka Dots And Moonbeams has a milky white base with black hex glitter. This one seems to have more glitter in it than the other two. Super cute!

Overall: I love these! I really like all three shades, but what I really like is that they were easy to apply, not a messy nightmare. They are a wee bit messy to remove but not as bad as most glitters. They all cover in two coats easily. If I had to pick one favorite though it would be Rockin’ Robin.

Now are these as good as the MUCH less expensive ones from Hard Candy? Well it just depends on your preferences. The Hard Candy ones have 3+ shades of glitter in them, these just one. Also the base of these is slightly more pigmented than the Hard Candy ones.

Availability: Deborah Lippmann.

Pricing: $19.00 for .50 oz.

What are your thoughts on these? Love them or leave them?

I’m always looking for glitter polishes that are easier to apply/remove, so these seem like a good option! I think my favorite is Polka Dots and Moonbeams :)

I like that blue one! Seems like glitter like this is also a bit of a trend this year :)

These look great! I might be biased though – I’m a huge fan of black glitter ;)

Just a note for any UK readers, W7 Salt ‘n’ Pepper is a dead-on dupe for Polka Dots and Moonbeams, and is only about £2 a bottle. I guess you could use it franken dupes of the other colours if you were so inclined :D

I was just going to say the same about W7! For Dutch readers as well. (I know there are some Dutchies here)

These are super cute, and in an ideal world I’d own both these AND the Hard Candy’s; but given the price difference, I think I’ll stick with the cheaper ones :)

I do love Rockin’ Robin though!

Your swatches are beautiful, as always. I think I prefer the Ilamasqua speckled polishes to these. I think the glitter in these is too “one size” for me. Thanks for swatching!

I’d go with the Ilamasqua speckled polishes over these as well, but of the three, I like Polka Dots and Moonbeams the best.

I’m a fan of these! The first thing I thought of when I saw Rockin’ Robin was “Mint chocolate chip ice cream!” I may have to consider adding these to my collection, though the Hard Candy sprinkles collection is also vying for my attention…

Love them! well, not all of them. I don’t like the white one sooo much, the white-black contrast is a bit too much for me – at first sight :)

I just got two polishes that’s very similar from Illamasqua. The blue reminds me of robin’s eggs. Yes, the green one looks like mint chocolate chip ice cream and the white looks like cookies and cream!

    I need ice cream.

I love that the new polishes are going textured this year. Now my polishes are multi-sensory experiences. If only we can get better scents. Anna Sui polishes have that down pact.

I want all three of these, however for that price I don’t anticipate getting any of them. I may get a couple of Hard Candy’s, IF they show up at either Walmart near by! Thanks for the post Kelly!

These are WAY too close to the look of the Hard Candy shades. Too much abuse on my wallet to justify these.

I wasn’t sure what I thought of these when I first saw them, but after seeing your swatches I kind of like them! I think the black glitter is unique, especially set in the pastel bases. :)

I’m torn – I have a few of the Hard Candies and two of the Illamasquas. I love the Lippmann formula though, and this pink is nicer than the Illamasqua pink! Decisions, decisions…

these look really interesting- i like how the glitter in the first layer shows through faintly, giving the polish dimension.i would love a black base with white polka dot glitter.

    hate the pricetag though :/

  • March 19, 2013

I’m already getting tired of these creamy base polishes and glitters, especially these with the black glitter. I’ve gotten creamy glitter overload from indie makers and now that main stream brands are coming out with them it’s just boring. Although it is a good alternative for those that didn’t have easy access to the indie brands that have come out with similar polishes.
