Bold Lips for Spring and Summer
When spring and summer roll around we see a plethora of bold pink, orange, and red lip products. From colored lip balms to lipsticks to glosses to fat pencils, I love them ALL!
I think one reason I tend to love a bold lip is because it’s the one thing (aside from nail polish) where I feel totally confident in my application skills and the way it looks on me. I love eyeliner and eyeshadow as much, but I don’t love the way it looks on me sometimes since most of the time the shadow is hidden by my hooded lids. And winged liner? Forget it.
But lips, LIPS are the one area where I can slap on nearly anything and feel good in it. A bold lip is the perfect thing to accompany a very simple eye and fresh glowing skin. Especially in the months where it’s hotter and you don’t feel like dealing with melting eyeliner!
Here are some of my favorite bright lip shades. All of these are available now online or in stores.
An interesting note about my blush in these photos (the new Estee Lauder Mad Men shade). I never change it or change positions but notice how much stronger the blush looks with the dark red shades than the other ones. I look nearly feverish!
NARS Lodhi (taken earlier in day, hence the brightness)
NARS Lodhi might be my favorite shade period right now. It’s a gorgeous cool coral/peach.
MAC Candy Yum-Yum
MAC Candy Yum-Yum is now in the permanent collection, yay for us! Perfect BRIGHT cool pink.
Bite Beauty Pastille Violet
Bite Beauty Pastille Violet is limited edition but worth snatching up at Sephora. Bright, creamy but wearable.
MAC Neon Orange
MAC Neon Orange is an uber-bright orange with an Amplified finish.
Milani Violet Volt
Milani Violet Volt has a metallic finish and is bright, but kind of more subdued.
Milani Flamingo Pose
Milani Flamingo Pose is bright warm pink. Vivid and super pretty.
NARS Majella
NARS Majella is a great new cool-toned bright red.
Milani High Voltage
Milani High Voltage is a bright slightly orange red shade, and has a shiny Vinyl finish.
When the warmer months are here, do you wear lighter eyes and a bolder lip or vice versa?

I feel pretty much the same way, my eyes are small and hooded so I feel the most confident with a bright lip. That being said, I wear bold lips pretty much the whole year so it doesn’t change with the seasons haha
I had never felt like I needed Candy Yum-Yum but I swatched it the other day and omg, instant love!
Yeah I tend to wear them all year round also, but more in the warmer months I think. And less eye makeup!

I really like Nars Lodhi and Majella. Up until the last few years, I only wore nude or nude/pink lip colors. Then I discovered Chanel Dragon Rouge Allure Laque; now I can’t get enough of rich colors.
Nice! I go through phases of a nude lip for a long time, then bold again.

The more I see swatches, the more I can’t decide between Majella and Hyde Park.
Which one do you prefer between them?
And is Hyde Park as bright as Majella?
Thanks! Hyde Park is more of a brown red rather than a classic bright red. It’s not as bright and warmer than Majella. I prefer Mejella simply because I love a classic red, but it just depends on what you like.
I love a classic red too! I’ll get Majella since I don’t like a brownish red. (So that’s why Golshan isn’t also tempting me at all! lol)

Revlon is currently BOGO 50% off right now at Ulta. During the last Revlon BOGO I picked up the Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Lovesick and Romantic. Love this line. Looks like a giant crayon, goes on like a lip balm (no potential for screw-ups), color like an expensive lipstick!

Love the way Pastille Violet Violet VOlt and FLamingo Pose set off your beautiful coloring. Almost looks like you went to the hairdresser and got some pretty highlights. Now here is why ladies should be inspired and not afraid of lip color. (and I am loving the Mad Men Blush! )It can really brighten your look with ease. I get inspired when I see 1950′s movies- I saw Doris Day one night and promised to get on the bright pink lipstick for Spring!

I always wanted to do a bold lip, but last time I tried, I ended up looking like a vampire. I looked like I had bathed my face in SPF then took a picture. Pure White with BRIGHT red lips.

I do like some punch to my lip color. Definitely brightens my face.
U really do suit all sorts of lip colours! Really beautiful. I never want to hear anybody ever again say that candy yum yum looks good on no one. It looks darn fine on u, lady.
Red lipstick really suits you!
I pretty much wear bold lip colors all year round- I just tend to wear darker reds and purples when it’s fall/winter. Hell, I wear Mac Rebel year round.
My eye makeup does get more colorful during spring/summer, though. Sometimes I wear lighter lip colors if my eye makeup is extremely bold (like when I wear one of my red eyeshadows- which I love to do when it gets warm!)
I don’t know, my makeup depends more on my mood than the season.
