Urban Decay Oz The Great and Powerful Limited Edition Collection Swatches, Photos & Review

Urban Decay Oz The Great And Powerful Palettes

Urban Decay has partnered with Disney for a tie-in to the upcoming movie Oz The Great and Powerful, to be released on March 8th. This is a limited edition collection featuring two palettes: The Glinda Palette and The Theodora Palette.

The Glinda Palette features all the items you would need to re-create Michelle Williams’ (Glinda) look including a card with step-by-step instructions. It has six eyeshadows as well as a mini 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Rockstar and a Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color in Glinda (light sheer nude – this was missing from my box so I don’t have a swatch, sorry).

The Theodora Palette has all you need to re-create Milla Kunis’s (Thoedora) look from the movie, also with a step-by-step guide. This palette includes six eyeshadows, a mini 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero and Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color in Theodora (bright red).

Overall: Ok let’s start off by saying I have been DYING to see this movie since I saw the first preview a few months ago. I think this is a great idea for a collection and who better than Urban Decay to do it?

The palettes come in a nice sturdy tin (which I love) and are designed really nicely. The mirror inside is huge and what I love is that the eyeshadows are easily removable. I like that they also include a travel-sized liner and gloss in each one, as well as a handy how-to card.

The eyeshadow textures overall are really soft and nicely pigmented. There are some glittery ones which will probably cause fallout issues, but that isn’t a deal-breaker for me. I like that they included a variety of finishes in each palette. Love the matte ones especially in Theodora, they are so buttery and smooth. The iridescent shades in Glinda are fabulous also. Oh and of course the Theodora Gloss is incredible if you love a bright red!

Availability: Limited edition and on Urban Decay’s site now.

Pricing: $49.00.

Ok now I really want to know, what do you think about these two palettes? Will you be picking either or both of them up? Are you dying to see the movie like I am?

-Kelly

I am SO torn. I think I’ll only be snagging the Galinda palette mostly because I ALWAY buy brown/green shades..so Galinda is out of my comfort zone a bit

These are both awesome looking! I loved the Wizard of Oz as a kid, so I’m super excited to see the movie. I’ll probably end up with the Glinda palette, but Theodora looks SO good too. I love how you staged these with the pearls and jewels, btw. Very cute!

    • January 23, 2013

They actually came in a fancy box with all that stuff and glitter, haha! I thought, why not include them in the photos? :)

  • January 23, 2013

I am so getting both! I love it ;) thanks for the review!

    • January 23, 2013

      Cool, you are welcome!

  • January 23, 2013

I’m all for Theodora! Both the palette and the lipstick seem really awesome! I like the packaging as well. Finally there is a way of getting one of these “build your owns” at a good price :)

Wow! Both palettes look amazing! I’d choose Theodora though because those are the colours I usually go for. But both are really gorgeous!

I might be forced to buy Glinda. Those are SO my colors.

        Nyltiak

The prettiness can force me! But really, other than nail polish and one lip gloss, I haven’t bought new cosmetics in like 2 years. My current UD palette is almost done for all my favorite colors, and I deserve a present. :) (My BFF’s dad is the CEO of Mally, so I get lots of free makeup, particularly mascara, but I am limited to what he sends, and don’t really make requests.)

  • January 23, 2013

Oh these are lovely, I want them both! I love the Wizard of Oz, I am SO tempted right now.

  • January 23, 2013

Thanks for the fast review! Thinking of getting Theodora, but I already have so many neutrals. I still wish that this was more like Alice in wonderland.

I think you are first out of the gate with these swatches- congrats on the scoop. I am eyeing Glinda- the colors remind me of the Benefit World Famous Neutrals kits. beautiful! Was expecting something more edgy with the Theodora(shades like Smoked, Black palette or Dangerous Palette), but lovely nonetheless.

Wow, I adore the Glinda set – it’s so girly and ethereal!

    • January 23, 2013

Yeah those iridescent shades always get me. I used to own so many long ago.

  • January 23, 2013

Ngh I’m so in love with about half of each palatte. Theodora lip colour is amazing, Rockstar is my everyday liner and the shadows are just split all wrong! Still, really tempted by Theodora, will have to think on this.

    • January 23, 2013

Hard to choose, huh? Theodora is really such a great red.

  • January 23, 2013

I’m so tempted to buy Glinda but I’m trying to resist. Who am I kidding, I’ll probably break down before the night’s over!

      Jennifer

If you decide to put one of your singles in the straight make sure you pop it out of the token by pushing the bottom up. I learned this the hard way. It twists really easy in and out of the build your own palette but learning how to take them out of the tokens the 1st time almost cost me my YDK color.

        Jennifer

By “Put your single in the strait” I meant “put a single eyeshadow in the palette” Cold medicine is kicking my butt today.

  • January 23, 2013

I thought I was going to pick up the Glinda palette for spring, but after seeing your swatches, I may have to pick up Theodora as well for everyday. I can’t wait to see the movie either!! :)

Great job on the pictures and the swatches, because now this once iffy girl needs the Glinda palette

Just depends on your stance on CF companies. Some people consider a company that doesn’t test as CF even if their parent company does. Some people think if the parent company tests then that company isn’t really CF at all.

I am getting both palettes. I missed out on the Alice in wonderland palette (it was before I really got into makeup) and I’m bound and determined not to miss out on these. I will be going to see the movie. The daughter of a family friend is one of the munchkins, so I’ve been waiting for this movie for a few years.

Kelly, can you speak to the wear time on the gloss? How often do you have to reapply?
I’m gonna need both of these, I think. And I’m so excited for this movie!

    • January 24, 2013

Well not this particular one because I didn’t have it on long enough, but their other Super-Saturated ones wear easily for 4 or 5 hours. They STAY on, they’re more like a lipstick with a high shone than a gloss really.

I really want one!!! Would you be able to help me choose?
I have very fair skin and I don’t look good with a lot of makeup. My everyday look uses my one of my Naked palettes (I am lucky to have all 3). I do like using pinks and purples, but I want to get one that I can use a lot (since I only have enough $$ for one).

    • January 24, 2013

I would say maybe go for Glinda because the iridescent ones are on the lighter side and definitely the pink/purple type shades you seem to like. Great for cooler toned skin also.

  • January 24, 2013

I’m looking forward to this movie too! Both the palettes are really pretty, but I like the Glinda one best.

pretty colors. I haven’t purchased UD in years. I really think these are funky though… and considering I have a Wizard of Oz tattoo it is only appropriate I get at least one of these. You look beautiful as always.

Hi! I love both but I need help because I only have enough money for one. I’m quite pale but I have dark hair and green eyes so I can get away with wearing darker shades. I loved purples and pinks but I also love neutrals and greens! And both lip colors look gorgeous! Ugh I don’t know what to do.

O.O OMG these are both beyond blowing my mind! *excuse me while I pick my brain bits up off the floor*

All of the shadows are TDF, the packaging is amazing (tins!!! yay!!!), and Theodora Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color has to be the best red EVER! I can hear my wallet starting to climb the wall to escape out the window, LOL! Must haves!!! :D

I am looking foward to the movie, but don’t think I will be pciking up the palettes. I still want to get the naked 2 palette and would rather invest in that one, since I know it is one I will use a lot more.

  • January 27, 2013

I love both of these palettes, no surprise for this UD junkie! Theodora works much better on my brown eyes though. I know some people have been grumbling about the earthy palette being a little Naked-y, but I find that it’s a great stand-alone palette and a fantastic compliment to my Naked palette. Plus the build-your-own palette design is a huge improvement in my book because you can customize it with other UD shades you already own instead of just sticking with the shades that come in the palette. It seems like the Glinda lip pencil is just like the Naked pencil though, womp womp.
