Urban Decay Naked Skin Beauty Balm for Spring 2013 Swatches & Review

Urban Decay Naked Skin Beauty Balm

Urban Decay Naked Skin Beauty Balm is brand spankin’ new and absolutely fabulous. No really, I am kind of blown away by how amazing it actually is.

But first some info about it.

Naked Skin Beauty Balm doesn’t just do one thing, it does like a million. Ok not really, but it DOES help blur fine lines, redness and pores (my biggest annoyance), it contains an SPF of 20 and also includes Pepha®-Protect, which helps inhibit DNA damage. It also works as an anti-aging product using Vitasource™ and dGyage® to help with elasticity and skin firmness. Also included inside is a primer, which makes it super blendable and smooth, and it’s also nicely moisturizing.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Beauty Balm 2

This oil-free BB Cream comes with a lot of claims too. In a clinical study of UD staffers and product testers who have tried it for 8 weeks this is what they claim:

  • 93% had significantly firmer, more lifted skin
  • 90% had significantly more radiant skin
  • 84% had a significant improvement in fine lines
  • Over 84% has significantly smoother and more hydrated skin

I would have to actually wear it every day for 8 weeks to see for myself if these claims are true for me…

Urban Decay Naked Skin Beauty Balm Swatch

Naked Skin Beauty Balm comes in one universal shade, which self adjusts to fit your skin tone (well most they say). I thought it looked too orange for me but was pleasantly surprised when I applied it and it blended right in. It contains light-diffusing spheres that also help with the “illusion” of perfect skin.

The texture of it is creamy and smooth. It’s so easy to apply (I used my fingers) and it really does seem to just melt into the skin. It most definitely blurred my pores and uneven areas of my face, which is the #1 reason I use a BB Cream. It feels super light and easy to wear. It actually feels like there is nothing whatsoever on my face. There is no scent at all either.

Wearing Urban Decay Beauty Balm Flushed Blush and Flushed Lip Junkie

This is me wearing it over a moisturizer and that’s it! No air-brushing, Photoshopping or powder on my face at all here. I’m also wearing the new Flushed palette (review soon) as well as the new Flushed Lip Junkie shade.

Overall: Well I can say I really love this stuff! It does a great job of making my skin look really nice, but not covered with makeup. It feels very comfortable on my skin and I love that it also has SPF 20 in it. I think it’s my favorite BB Cream now. Great product!

Availability: UrbanDecay.com today and in stores February 1st.

Pricing: $34.00 for 1.18 oz.

Is Naked Skin Beauty Balm something you might try?

It’s really good with my skin, I love it!

  • January 3, 2013

I’m very interested in trying this out. I’ve been using Jouer’s Luminizing Moisture Tint, but I want to switch to a BB Cream because I think the “luminizing” qualities of the Moisture Tint tend to enhance fine lines. I was thinking about picking up Dr. Jart+ Water Fuse BB Cream (or the Premium BB Cream), but now I’m tempted to try UD Naked instead.

How would you compare UD Naked Skin to Dr. Jart+? Are they about the same in terms of coverage?

Thanks! I always appreciate your reviews – they’re always very helpful.

    • January 3, 2013

Ok so my other favorite BB Creams are the Dr. Jart ones. I LOVE them so much. They give me more coverage than this one. This definitely works great for me in terms of covering flaws and pores and making my skin look really good. But the Dr. Jart ones are thicker and cover a little more. This seems more like a tinted moisturizer whereas those are closer to a lighter foundation, if that makes sense!

      • January 3, 2013

Thank you so much! I really appreciate all the info. I think I’ll probably go with Dr. Jart+ Water Fuse, since I loved the sample in my birchbox, and I would like a little more coverage. Thanks again!

        • January 3, 2013

I have to add, though, that your skin really does look awesome with the Naked Skin BB Cream!

          • January 3, 2013

            You are welcome and thanks!

  • January 3, 2013

Finally a bb cream from Urban Decay. I’m definitely to see how this one compares to other bb cream.

Sounds like a very exciting product! I wonder if it’s ok for oily skins? The shade looks like a really good match on you too!

It is oil-free and after wearing it for about 8 hours yesterday (I have an oilier t-zone) I didn’t need to powder down or anything yet.

  • January 3, 2013

It looks wonderful on you :)

I’m currently using Too Faced BB Cream and I love it. Tarte just released one too and I will be trying it once I finish my Too Faced. I prefer a BB Cream with some coverage.

    • January 3, 2013

Yeah I keep hearing about the Tarte one, I am curious about it.

  • January 3, 2013

I’m BB cream crazy..still… for almost 2 years now. I will try every single one. I received a sample of this in an UD order and I love it! One of the best I’ve tried so far. Light and easy to wear just like you said!

I would love to try this product! I am always looking for ways to lighten up my makeup routine and shorten it down to five minutes so I can sleep in :). Have you tried any asian BB creams?

    • January 3, 2013

I haven’t but would love to someday!

  • January 3, 2013

Looks nice on you! I am not happy that they only have ONE shade tho… I’m about 99% sure this is not WOC friendly and would not look good on me :-((( #thestruggle

  • January 4, 2013

Hi,I would like to introduce myself: I stepped into your blog by chance, while looking for EL swatches from the spring collection (btw, very very nice). My name is Barbara, I live in Italy, near Milan (30 minutes drive) and I ‘m 39 years old, approaching the big 40 on next November (so I got almost one full year to get used to it…) . My two great loves are make up and cats (and my fiancé of course!) so you can imagine how I swooned over your photos , your furry babies are so wonderful !(is there a cat who isn’t?). Well, I guess I’ll become quite a regular here, so …till later!

  • January 4, 2013

I have to agree with this review entirely, I received a couple samples of this with orders from UD, and this BB cream is amazeballs. I am a bit darker than you and the cream totally melted into my skin and was undetectable. I am about an NC25-NC30 in MAC and when I squirted this out of the tube I thought “gosh, this is too orange” but it totally works! I have normal to combo skin. I did not find the need to use powder. It smooths pores, and covers redness with ease. It’s wonderful on it’s own or great as a primer! I just ordered the full size today.

  • January 4, 2013

This is something I would absolutely love to try!

Another Naked product that looks great and has sucked me into buying haha. I have some redness on my cheeks and I’m always on the hunt for something to help reduce that. After a few hours usually, my makeup is wearing off even with a primer sometimes so my redness starts to show again.

  • January 4, 2013

Great review, you have me psyched for this BB cream! I think I may purchase this soon and see how I like it.

I like the Naked Skin Foundation, and since the Smashbox BB cream wasn’t the best for me, I may give the Urban Decay BB cream a try. Thanks for the heads up!

This looks amazing on you! Nice to hear that it works ok for fair skin, I have the pur minerals tinted moisturizer and I find it’s great for the summer but too orange for winter. One question, how was the scent of this? The one thing that’s turned me off of a lot of bb creams is the scent, I prefer a fresh, clean scent to things. Either way, Ill definitely have to head down to Sephora when they start to carry it and try it out!

  • January 6, 2013

I received a sample with my Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette purchase, and I think this BB cream is absolutely fabulous! I was so happy to be able to order the full size from Urban Decay before running out of my sample. Don’t think I’ll be looking for another BB cream any time in the near future. This one is everything I want. It looks wonderful on you!

  • January 8, 2013

Wow, you look radiant! This bb has a great finish. I hate it when they’re a bit too sticky and adding powder gets cakey. I usually stick to Asian bb creams for my everyday foundation, but if I try another western bb cream, it’ll be this one!

    Tricia Fitzgerald

How well does this cover redness in the face?

    • January 8, 2013

I have a small amount redness on my cheeks and it worked well for helping disguise it. But it’s not a lot of redness so not sure how well it would work for that.

  • January 8, 2013

I have been wanting to try this bb cream out. Thanks for the review but I wish you could’ve shown it before then after applied with no other makeup than the bb cream so you can really see the difference.

  • January 13, 2013

WOW!!! Looks absolutely gorgeous on you!!! I wonder if I could wear this product. I’d definitely need to look into the ingredient list (as I have lots of allergies) and I’d also be a bit concerned about the one-shade-fits-all. Every time I try a product which claims to adjust to an individual’s skin tone/color it ends up being way too dark for me. Still, it looks so beautiful and natural on you that I am definitely going to look into Naked Skin BB! *fingers crossed that it works for me* 😀

  • January 30, 2013

I’m loving the positive reviews of this! I have some Sephora gift cards and I will definitely pick this up once it shows up in stores. I already have the Naked foundation, which I also love.
