Tarte BB Tinted Treatment 12-Hour Primer in Light and Fair Swatches & Review

New from Tarte this spring are four shades of the BB Tinted Treatment 12-Hour Primer with Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen.
So what exactly is this, a primer, bb cream, tinted moisturizer or what? Well it’s all of that and more actually. This is a long-wearing, oil-free, tinted moisturizer with primer, light diffusing properties (TripleB Complex which includes natural diamonds, plants and lipoamino acids) and SPF 30 inside.
At first glance I thought it was essentially a tinted primer to wear under foundation. But actually you can use it on its own, and it provides pretty darn good coverage. It gives a light/medium coverage and is buildable. The shades it comes in right now are Fair, Light, Medium and Tan.

Fair, Light

Fair, Light
Fair is the lightest shade and too pale for my skin tone.
Light is the second lightest shade and more yellow and warmer. I initially thought it would be too deep but it matched me pretty nicely.

Me wearing nothing at all but moisturizer (and a fancy schmancy Turbie Twist in my hair)

So you can see the shade matches nicely, and it does a pretty good job of evening out my skintone and covering some of my patchy and reddish areas. It definitely works really well with covering pores, which is my #1 requirement when wearing any primer.
The texture of this stuff is nice and different than say the Urban Decay Beauty Balm. It’s thick and really silky feeling. Because it’s thick it feels more like a primer or BB Cream than the UD one, which is more liquid-y. It gave me more coverage than the UD one does. It’s very soft and blends in really easily with not much effort. A small amount goers a long way, but you can also use more to build it up for more coverage if you wish. It also helped brighten my skin a bit, which is nice.
Overall: This is a really great primer. What I like is that it is basically everything in one tube, but if you want more coverage you can easily wear it under a foundation. I don’t think I would ever really need to do that because I prefer medium coverage in general. I don’t mind if my freckles peek through a bit, as long as unevenness and pores are covered!
Availability: Sephora, Tarte and Ulta.
Pricing: $34.00 for 1.0 oz.
Are you going to try out this new BB Tinted Treatment?
-Kelly
Note: Tarte is cruelty free.

This looks quintessential for summer! Is the texture similar to the Amazonian Clay foundation or is it thinner? P.S. You rock that Turbie Twist like no other!
I’ve been meaning to pick one up since growing my hair. Didn’t know they come in colors and not just white!

I haven’t tried that foundation so not sure sorry! It’s thick but in a kind of paste like way? Hard to explain. Thick and silky.
How moisturizing is this?
It was really nice on me and I have dry skin now, except t-zone. Lasted a full 8 hours without feeling tight or dry, or causing any oily areas in my t-zone either. Good stuff!
Whoa Kelly, you have such great skin! This BB cream does look pretty nice. I don’t mind my sun spots peeking through either. I prefer to have something light and breathable for a base!

Aww thanks! I hate it and was horrified to post that pic, but did it for the greater good, haha.
I’m going totally off topic here, but do the turbie twist things work well? I bought an offbrand one for about $2 and it’s useless, but I’m still potentially interested in a namebrand one if it would help my hair dry faster / look better! (I don’t blowdry, because I have curly hair).

Yes! Ok I like them in particular because they are really lightweight and if I have a heavy towel on my head, I will get a headache. They do dry my hair faster than a towel also.
Thank you! I will get one then, it definitely sounds worth it.

The fair actually looks light enough for me! The fact that it’s Cruelty Free and has great SPF means I’m going to be picking this one up for sure. Thanks for the great swatches and photos!
Cool, you are welcome!
I’m usually pretty anti-bb cream but this one looks like an actual improvement on most I’ve seen. I wouldn’t mind it for summer especially with the SPF and other possible benefits. Plus Fair looks like it would be pale enough for me, which is another issue I have with most BBs. Thanks for the post and all you do! Loving the Glinda palette from UD too!
You are welcome, glad you like it.
I am definitely going to check this out! I’ve never used BB cream but have been checking them out lately. I was seriously going to look into the Asian ones because most of the US brands haven’t impressed me with the reviews.
This one looks like it does it all. I’ll probably use it as a primer as I like as much coverage as I can get. Plus it’s cruelty free.
Love the straight on pix of you!
So excited to see another BB cream review! I picked up the Garnier BB cream on a whim at the drugstore and I like it well enough to try a better quality one after I finish this tube. My issue with the Garnier one is it feels a bit… chalky(?) after it dries, kind of like sunblock. Is this a Garnier issue or a BB cream issue in general?
I haven’t tried the Garnier one so it might just be that one. I don’t experience chalkiness with the ones I have tried yet!
I swatched this at Sephora the other day and loved how it felt! Your makeup looks so lovely in the after photo!! Which products did you use?
Hey, lady! You’ve got great skin! DOn’t be afraid to post the “before” pics. Loving the way this looks on you- just the right amount of coverage to enhance natural beauty for everyday fast look. Weird how BB creams like this that seem too dark are ok once you put them on- I have had that experience with Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizers and Estee Lauder’s BB also. wonder if it is the sunscreen doing some lightening upon blending? anyway great post, thanks!
I got a sample of this BB Cream and I have to say it’s my favorite I’ve tried so far! I love the coverage it gives, and the texture. I would have to describe it as a mousse-like texture. It is soft and silky, and blends flawlessly. Plus it feels so light and weightless and not heavy at all! I love, love this BB cream. Definitely my favorite so far
omg, i think i will be trying this out! thanks for the review, i have issues with pores, redness and unevenness too and your skin looks great with it on!
Definitely interested in trying this out. Will probably use it as a primer though, as I need more coverage.

Have you tried Too Faced BB Cream? It’s the only one I’ve tried and I’m not sure it’s doing what it’s suppose to be. Great blogs by the way, I read them all the time:)
I have the Stila BB cream, which I really like– but I hate that it doesn’t have SPF! I might to have try this– it seems like it might be similar, but with the added benefit of sunblock.

FYI for really pale, cool-toned folks — I got samples of this in Fair and Light, and of the Urban Decay, and the Fair worked wonderfully for me. It also wears well and feels good on my combination skin.
On the other hand, the UD was way too dark and practically orange, even when blended out. And while the Tarte Light was lighter than the UD, it also came off too yellow on me.
Wow, I’m definitely getting this. I’ll try just about anything that will help hide my large pores. BTW you look GOOD in the “before” shot. Jealous much!
Wow, SO natural looking, but I do see the difference. Never would’ve suspected you had any base makeup on, just looks like skin
