A Scene from Treasure Island

Bay Bridge from Treasure Island

We went to the de Young museum in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park last Saturday to see the famous Girl With A Pearl Earring painting, amongst other works from famous Dutch painters. On the way back we abruptly decided to take the exit to Treasure Island (named after the Robert Louis Stevenson novel of the same name) since I don’t think either of has actually been there. It’s a man-made island and used to be a naval base. Interestingly tons of movies were filmed (or partly filmed) there such as Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Flubber, What Dreams May Come and The Parent Trap. Also for you Matrix nerds out there, this is where stage location was for the “bullet time” visual effect in the movie. :) TV shows have been filmed there as well including Comedy Central’s Battlebots, Nash Bridges and Trauma.

Anyway this is a view of the Bay Bridge leading into the city.

San Francisco from Treasure Island

It was a gorgeous sunny day but FREEZING cold and windy on the island. Here is a view of San Francisco from the island.

Golden Gate Bridge from Treasure Island

And there is the Golden Gate and Alcatraz.

Gorgeous photos! They make me miss the bay area :/

Great pictures! I’ve never been to any of the places you mentioned. I’d love to see Alcatraz, and Treasure Island sounds interesting, but only when it’s warmer. I loved Trauma, and was sad when it was canceled. It’s not often we get a show based on SF.

Now I miss San Francisco! I visited last summer and it was so fun, but there was so much I didn’t get to see and do. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to go again before too long :)

I was just there last week! But I missed this collection by 1 day. We thought it had opened and it hadn’t. We did go through the museum though and enjoyed the art and the way they’ve redone this after being harmed by an earthquake.

The view from the 9th floor is just beautiful.
