Question of the Week

We are once again at the end of the work-week. How ya feeling?

My week was…uneventful overall. I guess that’s good? The weather has been grey, cold and yucky. I am REALLY looking forward to spring already and it’s not even winter officially. I miss the sun but mostly I miss the light she gives off.

Does it snow where you live? Do you love it or hate it?

No it most definitely doesn’t snow in the San Francisco Bay Area. Honestly, I have only been to the snow maybe 5 times in my life! I cannot FATHOM how people actually live in places where it snows. Typical Californian. I can say I really wouldn’t mind if it snowed around Christmas though, I think it would be magical. Although the amount of car accidents would be astronomical. ;)

Have a great weekend!

-Kelly

We get snow here, even though we live in So Cal. It is odd since it’s new to me, but I absolutely love it. Scared to death to drive in it though…

Well ok actually we do occasionally get snow on Mt. Diablo, which is a mountain about 20 mins from me. But only at the very tip and only maybe 1-2 days per year.

  • December 7, 2012

Yes, it snows where I live….hehe, I’m in Canada! :) Although last winter, we hardly got any snow and it was really mild, which I actually liked. (Cold weather and I just don’t get along.) ;)

I like cold weather maybe for a few days then I am done with it! :)

  • December 7, 2012

Oh it totally does! Not SO much but it does. As a matter of fact, we had some today!

I love it when I can sit on my a* watching the snow falling down. Otherwise I’m really not a fan. It’s hard to walk in snow, and when it melts it’s really gross!

Yeah it seems like it would be so ugly and dirty looking once it starts melting.

It doesn’t snow here on San Antonio (it was still in the mid 70s this week!) but I do love to visit places where it does snow. We have family in Denver and its absolutely gorgeous, but I don’t think I could handle living in snow haha

    • December 7, 2012

I have always wanted to go to Denver. But yeah, living in it is so different I imagine. I don’t know how people can get up for work every day!

We definitely get snow here in Upstate NY, as well as something called “lake-effect snow”, which occurs when the cold winds blow over the warmer lakes and it forms snow bands. Personally, I hate it… well, OK, it’s pretty to look at as long as I can stay inside and don’t have to go out in it! People don’t know how to drive in it, even if they’ve lived here for years and years, and it’s very frustrating! Our average is around 100 inches, but last winter was very mild and we only got around 50 inches. I’m hoping that this winter is a repeat of last winter!

    • December 7, 2012

I know a few people from upstate NY and oh yes, I have heard winters can be sooooo cold and snowy there!

We’ve just received 60 cm snow in Stockholm Sweden were I live! :D
It’s been total chaos in the traffic but I love it!!! :D

Snow is highly highly overrated, lol. Living in Michigan…. we get plenty of it! I would take California weather any day!

Yep, here in Ottawa, Canada, snow is an inevitable part of every year. You get used to it. So far this year, we’ve had a couple of slightly snowy days, but it hasn’t stuck around. I actually find it a relief when it finally snows, because it usually doesn’t seem as cold out when it’s snowing. Also, it’s really pretty and it makes the most wonderful non-sound. Everything gets really really quiet :)

The worst part about it is the traffic, although I’m sure it’s not as bad here as it is in other places where snow catches people completely unprepared. We still have a lot of people on the roads who tend to panic for the first few weeks of winter, but after that it becomes business as usual.

Most people hate shovelling the stuff, but I just look at it as a bonus workout. I don’t really mind it much – of course the last 2 years I’ve gotten really lucky. Last year I only had to shovel *once*, which is unheard of.

    • December 7, 2012

It’s definitely pretty to look at. But yeah the traffic seems like it would be horrible to deal with.

  • December 7, 2012

It doesn’t snow where I live. Although last year we got a bit of snow a couple of days (which melted away the next day haha) and the beach looked beautiful snowed in!

    • December 7, 2012

Ooooh a snowy beach is really pretty!

  • December 7, 2012

It most definitely does not snow in Puerto Rico! I sometimes wish it did but then I remember how much I absolutely hate the cold and how dry my skin gets so I back out of that wish right quick. I’ve only seen snow once and I’m dying to go skiing and eat some snow though.

It doesn’t snow much (we didn’t get any last year) so when we do actually get snow it’s crazy. We had a “snow-pocalypse” in February of 2010…it was great, I got out of work for a week!

Hope your thumb is feeling better!

No it doesn’t snow here. It does snow on the mountains nearby though. I don’t mind a little snow but I am a California girl through and through so I prefer to drive to it and not live in it.

Yes we get snow where I live, which is in Northern Michigan near Lake Michigan, so we get the “lake effect snow” that someone else mentioned. Our area is full of ski resorts and there are lots of cross country trails and lots of people love winter. But I’ve only been skiing once in my life and I get sick of winter after about the first month. it’s really pretty when it is snowing but driving can be tricky!.

I live in the Chicago suburbs, so we ALWAYS get snow! I’m constantly amazed and confused by Chicagoans…we’re used to the snow, but whenever it happens people FREAK OUT! We usually get at least one MAJOR snow each year where people get stuck at home because the city does a crappy job of plowing the streets. I LOVE snow between Thanksgiving and New Year’s, but then I’d be happy not seeing it again for another year. :)

We sometimes get a few inches of snow in Atlanta. Just enough to get people excited/panicked and then it melts…or we get a good bit, which melts then refreezes, causing an ice storm. Atlanta isn’t well equipped for winter weather, so ice tends to shut the city down. The last one kept most people off the roads for a week. However, we did get a white Christmas just before that!

I live in Russia, so yes, IT SNOWS here!)
and I really hate snow in Moscow. I only love it when I’m going out of the city, and of course, in the Alps – I coudn’t live without skiing)
But in Moscow…it stays nice and clean for a day and then turns into dirty mess. Car accidents, awful traffic, damaged shoes, slippery roads – all that is typical for our winter)
I guess I could love snow if I lived in a small town, but it’s a bad thing for such large cities as Moscow

Oh yes it snows here I love to watch it come down, howhever with that said when I work (unemployed right now) I don’t like cleaning a foot of snow off my car early in the morning or when I’m leaving work having to clean my car off. I’m ready to move where it doesn’t snow

It does not snow where I live, like ever. Which is fine by me.

However, I lived in Boston for 10 years and got my fill of snow there. Occasionally it was nice, like when I lived in a 3rd floor apartment with windows on 3 sides. It was like being in a snow globe:-)

We just had 50 cm of Snow where I live in Switzerland, and it’s not big deal. Here everything continues to work just as well. School closes only if we get less than -40°C, but that just rarely happens. I should say life is pretty organized around the fact we do have snow half of the year, lol.
As a Latin-american, I don’t get used to cold weather, but I like snow!

It can snow a lot here in Iowa and I HATE it!
It can also be quite nice. Last winter we only had a real winter for about a month and half. It was so nice!!!! I’m hoping we get lucky again this year.

  • December 7, 2012

I live in England and we get snow every winter. We must be one of THE least prepared countries in the world for it though. We have it every year but a few snowflakes and the trains grind to a halt. You can’t use snow chains on our roads unless there’s A LOT of snow. I have never seen snow chains on a vehicle in the snow in my life and I’m 38! You have to go to a specialist shop (like a ski shop) if you want to buy proper shoes to wear in the snow because they’re not widely available. Everyone panic buys when it snows so you can’t get staples like bread and milk. Snow is so pretty but I fall a lot at the best of times. I’m terrified of walking in the snow unless it’s 2 feet deep and I have lots of crunch under foot so let me know I’m not going to have an arse/ground interface.

It’s something I say ‘Aww, it’s so pretty!’ about and take loads of photos, then hope it melts quickly! xx

Nope, no snow here in San Diego. But I grew up in the mountains in So Cal so although I am a born and raised Californian, I love the snow and miss it. After a while it does get old though – I don’t miss the dummies on the road, shoveling in the dark or sliding on the ice. I can’t stand a warm Christmas….it’s just not right! **Sigh**

It snows a LOT around here since, ya know, it’s Canada and all. It’s currently snowing a lot actually! First “real” snow of the year!
