elf Necessary Nails 15 Piece Nail Polish Collection for Holiday 2012 Swatches & Review

Elf Necessary Nails Holiday 2012

The elf holiday collection this year features a new 15 piece nail set called Necessary Nails. It contains 15 tiny bottles of polish in various finishes and colors. They are all a quick-dry formula and contain vitamin E for nail strength.

Could this be the perfect set for someone on your list? At $15.00 it’s a great price!

Elf Holiday 2012 Nail Polish

These polishes don’t have names so bear with me here. Also I didn’t swatch one of them (the pinky/taupe creme in the second bottle pic on the left above) because the cap would NOT open!

On my pointer finger is a medium/deep brown taupe creme.

On my middle finger is a gold glitter featuring micro gold glitter and small gold hex glitter in a clear base.

On my ring finger is a frosty/metallic warm gold.

On my pinky is an iridescent red/orange glitter (better pic coming below)

Elf Holiday 2012 Nail Polish 2

On my pointer is a vampy purple creme.

On my middle is a deep chocolate brown creme.

On my ring is a medium warm red creme.

On my pinky is a medium pinkish/taupe creme.

And here are the best four!

On my pointer is a deep blackened blue with lighter blue shimmer.

On my middle is a emerald green glitter with green & gold sparkles.

On my ring is a shimmery deep purple.

On my pinky is a bright and shimmery cherry red.

Elf Holiday 2012 Nail Polish 4

On my pointer & ring is a jet black creme.

On my middle and pinky is a dark charcoal grey with multi-colored shimmer.

Elf Holiday 2012 Nail Polish 5

Here I added the gold glitter on my pointer over the black and the iridescent red/orange glitter on my middle finger over black.

Nearly all of these were just two coats with one or two exceptions needing three coats. For the price, you get fairly decent polish and a wide variety. I think this is perfect for someone younger just getting into nail polish.

Availability: Target only.

Pricing: $15.00.

    Great shimmery polishes!

Really nice looking polishes. The packaging is so similar to OPI i had to look twice what the actual label said.

That’s a cute and pretty kit!

  • December 20, 2012

I saw these at Target and was kind of interested in it for me, but I always seem the have a hard time applying polishes with brushes this small. Does anyone else?

  • December 20, 2012

For really cheap polishes, there are some really pretty colors!

For the bottle that wouldnt open, when I have that issue, I hold the bottle upside down and submerge the lid in hot water for a couple minutes, usually works like a charm!

Oh, I’m so glad you swatched these! I keep seeing them at Target, I’m always torn between wanting them and not knowing if they’re worth it. Overall I think they aren’t for me – some are really nice, but too many dupes of what I have. But if the set goes on sale after Christmas, I’d consider it.

the color on the pointer finger in the last photo is awesome!

  • December 20, 2012

I swatched the other elf polish set and absolutely loved it! I think it’s great that elf puts out these sets every year, gives me a great chance to try a lot of great colors at a low price! xoxo

I really like the new packaging on these and I think you’re right, this would be awesome for someone who’s just getting into nail polish or just wants a ton of variety without a high price tag.

Mine do have names on the bottom of the bottles, they are super tiny letters. Two of mine are named “Party Purple,” though! I’m sure the shimmery dark purple is that color and the other one is mislabeled.

Guess the 2 Targets that are like 90 miles in either direction from where I live are not full stocked Targets. They never have had this brand.

  • December 22, 2012

So for $15 dollars I would totally get this, even though I’m not in love with every single color, I love enough of them! I wish I had a Target near me, but wrong country 😛

  • December 22, 2012

The green with gold sparkles and charcoal with multi sparkles look exactly like the ones I got from the python collection. Are any of these smelly? My python polishes smell horrible and strong and toxic and bad!

    • December 22, 2012

I didn’t notice any smell stronger than most nail polish.

  • December 22, 2012

I wouldn’t buy any of these. Not because they’re not nice…but because they don’t have names. I hate when polishes don’t have names.

    • December 22, 2012

Mine have names on them, super tiny lettering on super tiny labels, but they are there LOL!

I’ve ordered this set today and I can’t wait to receive it! Love the colors! &thanks for swatching them :)

  • January 4, 2013

When I saw these online I was really excited, until I ran into them at Target and although the colors are really pretty, I just don’t like the size of the jar. It’s too small to work with for me.

This set reminds me of UD naked set. Great price point for my young teen daughter when she wants to recreate a more expensive brand’s look. Thank you for the review.
