OPI Skyfall Collection for Holiday 2012 Swatches, Photos & Review

OPI Skyfall is the latest collection from the brand just in time for holiday 2012. This collection celebrates 50 years of James Bond films as well as the new movie by the same name, which releases November 7th.

Skyfall features twelve new shades ranging from cremes to shimmers to glitters to metallics. There are some somewhat familiar shades here, but also some really unique cool ones.

Die Another Day, The Spy Who Loved Me, Goldeneye

OPI Die Another Day
Die Another Day

Die Another Day is a bright shimmery cherry red. Great creamy formula, just two coats.

OPI The Spy Who Loved Me
The Spy Who Loved Me

The Spy Who Loved Me is a bright apple red with gold glitter bits. Amazing formula, crazy gorgeous shade! I absolutely love this one. Two coats.

OPI Goldeneye
Goldeneye

Goldeneye is an uber-glittery opaque gold. The gold is an old-gold or antiqued gold shade, which makes it more interesting than a typical gold glitter. It’s super opaque and totally amazing. I used three thin coats.

Casino Royale, You Only Live Twice, Skyfall

OPI Casino Royale
Casino Royale

Casino Royale is a medium plum creme. This was a little thin, so I needed three coats for complete coverage. Nice shade, but maybe not that original.

You Only Live Twice

You Only Live Twice is a bright magenta pink glittery shimmer. It’s really cheery and festive. Nice and thick, I only needed two coats.

OPI Skyfall Swatch
Skyfall

Skyfall is a medium maroon creme. This was also a little thin and a wee bit streaky, so I used three coats. This is another one I don’t think is all that interesting, but nice shade anyway.

On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough

OPI On Her Majesty s Secret Service
On Her Majesty’s Secret Service

On Her Majesty’s Secret Service is a dusty silvery blue/green with heavy blue and gold shimmery bits. This starts off pretty thin and almost watery but after three coats it’s nice and opaque. This is one of my favorite ones, love this shade.

OPI Tomorrow Never Dies
Tomorrow Never Dies

Tomorrow Never Dies is a bright royal purple with blue and pink shimmer. It’s a tiny bit streaky, but really creamy and rich. I used two coats. Gorgeous color, not unique though.

OPI The World Is Not Enough
The World Is Not Enough

The World Is Not Enough is a pink/taupe/silver with heavy pink and gold shimmery bits. Very hard to describe this shade! It’s unique and really cool looking. Better than I expected from the first thin coat. This also was three coats to get it nice and opaque.

Moonraker, Live And Let Die, The Living Daylights

OPI Moonraker
Moonraker

Moonraker is a very metallic silvery grey. As with most metallics, it’s a bit brush-stroke-y. This was two coats.

OPI Live And Let Die
Live And Let Die

Live And Let Die is a deep, dark blackened green with green and gold shimmer. UGH. UGH as in this is AMAZING! The formula is so great and thick and perfect. It’s a one-coater people. One coat! Gorgeous.

OPI The Living Daylights
The Living Daylights

The Living Daylights has medium sized copper, teal and silver hex glitter in a clear base. As with a lot of larger glitters, it tends to all wipe to the tip of the nail so you have to go slow and be careful of the glitter placement. But I like these shades together and definitely don’t have another glitter like it. This is two coats.

OPI The Living Daylights over The World IS Not Enough
The Living Daylights over The World Is Not Enough

Overall: I think this is a pretty strong collection. There are some shades that maybe we’ve seen before or aren’t all that interesting, but there are quite a few amazing ones also. My favorites are The Spy Who Loved Me, Goldeneye, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, The World Is Not Enough and Live And Let Die. If you could only get one I would say Live And Let Die is the must have!

Availability: Ulta, Trade Secret, Pure Beauty, Regis, etc.

Pricing: $8.50 for 0.5 oz.

Allllllrighty then, which ones are on your list?

-Kelly

Note: OPI is cruelty free.

I’m having a hard time trying to decide which ones to get, there’s so many great shades in this collection. If I could afford it, I’d get the whole thing, but then I don’t have a terribly large collection, so even the less than unique shades would still be unique in my collection. Sadly though, I don’t have that kind of money right now. :'(

Meghan, I’m kind of in same position as you. I think for once, the mini set is really great. You get 4 of the best shades in the collection, which is not always the case (sometimes you get meh shades, or even topcoat, boooh). I’ve only bought other 3 shades: tomorrow never dies, die another day and in her majesty’s secret service. and I don’t regret at all!

Very true Nita, and thanks for the comment. I agree that the mini set in this case is a good one, but I do find that the OPI minis are very disappointing since they are so tiny (smaller than most other minis), so I try to avoid them. There is a 3 piece set (full polishes) for $25 (Canadian) that looks good, I might go for that and supplement it with one or two other colours.

I’ve been looking forward to your swatches of this collection. I want On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. I passed on Zoya Fei Fei & this looks perfect, more gray than blue.

Hi Kelly. Lovely swatches, as usual. I’m waiting until VAT free day at Sally’s tomorrow to pick up a load of these!

I just had a query regarding OPI. are they definitely cruelty free? I thought that they weren’t any more? Sorry if you’ve already covered this, I find it so hard to keep up with these things!

    • October 24, 2012

OPI is cruelty free. They are owned by a company that isn’t though.

What is VAT? My local Sallys doesn’t carry OPI :(

VAT is value added tax. I take it you’re not in the UK so doesn’t apply to you.

LOOOOVE this collection! And I quite agree with you in my choice of shades! Live and let die, On her majesty’s secret service, The world is not enough, and The spy who loved me are my absolute favourites, I also like Golden eye. And so suitable for holidays too!

Live and Let Die looks pretty similar to a england’s Beauty Never Fails! I have that on my nails and while these two might not be twins, they could definitely be sisters. I love Goldeneye as well!

Such a beautiful collection. They knocked it out of the park with this one, which is nice because the last few have been less than wonderful. (excluding Germany… I’m looking at you Spider-Man…)

I love this collection. So many great colours that it’s hard to narrow it down. I’m seeing at least 5 that are must have: Live and Let Die, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, GoldenEye, The Spy Who Loved Me, and The World Is Not Enough.

Kelly, have you seen or tried The Man with the Golden Gun topcoat? I’d heard that they’ve suspended actual gold flakes in it.

    • October 24, 2012

I haven’t seen it, but the Jessica Gold Leaf one I posted about sounds like the same thing?

    • October 24, 2012

I own that one and it’s gorgeous. $30-40 depending on where you buy it but I’m glad I bought it. The bottle is pretty too, but I think the gold leaf trend is getting popular. Zoya has one as well.

Live and Let Die and GoldenEye are on my want list now. On her Majestys Secret service is up my alley but I already have Zoya Fei Fei and Estee Lauder Chaos, so I will probably skip. Also loving the cremes- I am a sucker for shades like that – Skyfall and Casino Royale. TOmorrow never dies looks intriguing- like a rose gold effect? this is tempting- been looking for something similar, think i need to check that out, too. Nice swatches!

  • October 24, 2012

Tomorrow never dies looks exactly like the blue from the Spiderman collection. That last glitter is amazing!

I can’t get over how much I love The World Is Not Enough. I can’t even really say why; I just know that after 5 days instead of choosing a new color, I had to put it on again. :)

I have Tomorrow Never Dies on my fingers now with the gold foil Man With the Golden Gun on top of it (gold foil flakes)…I cannot stop looking at my nails. This I think, is the best OPI collection of this yr of kind of underwhelming collections. You Only Live Twice (while it’s a tad thin and needs 3 coats) is a fav of mine here – I loved for last 2 yrs the magenta glass flec from the Burlesque collection – Let Me Entertain You and this new one is like that only with a touch more red to it (kind of red-raspberry in my mind)…and it completely updates my older love of LMEY. I am not a fan of Moonraker, Skyfall nor the glitter here at all.

I bought the mini-set of 4 and Live and Let Die was the only one I wasn’t looking forward to. But, when I got it, it was the only one out of the 4 that I liked. Gorgeous. I really need to get The Living Daylights. One day -sigh- Looks so pretty over The World Is Not Enough like you swatched it.

  • October 24, 2012

The World Is Not Enough is my favorite I think. Maybe because I get the Garbage song in my head too :P

  • October 24, 2012

I don’t think they’re unique but I do like the collection. I’ve been a fan of James Bond so I’m glad a cosmetic/nail company has come out with a collection to celebrate the movies!!

  • October 25, 2012

I see a couple of colors that are calling my name in there. Especially Golden Eye, I would love to know if I need that AND Zoya Ziv too! I am always looking for a gold that is just that little bit shinier!

    Nice collection overall!

Hi – Love your blog. Being curious of nature I was wondering why OPI didn’t do a Goldfinger nail polish and have just found out. I mean Goldfinger what more appropriate nail colour name of any Bond movie. I thought you might be interested to know that Adam Tschon from the Los Angeles Times looked into this and found out that the name Goldfinger had already been trademarked in category 3 (the international trademark classification that applies to cosmetics and cleaning preparations), OPI was foreclosed from using it – which is why OPI opted for the less obvious GoldenEye.

I also love the unusual manicure used in the Skyfall movie. Berencie Marlohe’s character Severine has a look I have never seen before in that the makeup artists used two of OPI’s new 007-themed colors, the maroon Skyfall on top of the nail and the glittery gold GoldenEye on the underside.

Has anyone seen any manicures like this before? Also does anyone have any hints or tips on how to create this look without making a huge mess as I am sure my two daughters would love this look but I’m a bit unsure about the best way to go about recreating it.

    Cheers

Hi – I think I saw a tutorial on YouTube the other day. Have a search there, I will post a link if I come across it in my travels.

I did notice that Goldfinger was missing but just thought OPI preferred GoldenEye – lol.

      Loving the new collection xxx

Are you also looking to buy the obscenely priced “Man with the golden gun” polish from this collection? $30 bucks on a single bottle of nail polish blows my mind but the 18K flaked gold inside is pretty, I just feel it could have been duplicated with a cheaper material and not be so laughably expensive.

I do want to see more of it though!

Have you guys seen the new holiday ELF collection, it has pretty colors the same or similar to these, $10 for 14 polishes

This collection to me was okay, the colors are pretty but not exciting enough for me to put it as a “must buy quick” mental list. So Skyfall was complete skip for me, I’ll wait to see what comes out next. Thanks for the review and swatches! =)

I wonder how The Spy Who Loves Me compares with OPI Dear Santa. I have been lemming Dear Santa, but I dont want to pay $25 on eBay….
