Make Up For Ever Black Tango for Fall 2012 Swatches & Review

Make Up For Ever Black Tango

Would you believe I took these photos on August 31st and am, just now posting the review? Yes, because of my *hiatus* I am still catching up on goodies for fall 2012. Bear with me. :)

Make Up For Ever has a new (ok let’s be honest, it’s not really new anymore) palette out called Black Tango. It’s limited edition and features four exclusive new shades of their Aqua Cream eye shadows.

It comes in a really sleek looking red and black palette with a pretty lace fan print. Inside you open it up to a large mirror with a nice black lace-like border, four Aqua Cremes in their own pots with lids, and a dual-ended flat nylon brush.

Make Up For Ever Black Tango Swatches
Red, Green, Blue, Ivory

The Red shade is a blackened red with very slight shimmer. It’s vampy and deep.

The Green shade is a deep forest green with slight shimmer. My favorite one.

The Blue shade is a dark navy blue with slight shimmer.

The Ivory shade is a pale creamy ivory. Very patchy and not opaque.

Overall: In terms of packaging, this is really nice. Love the design and that the Aqua Cremes are in their own pots with lids to keep them fresh. The payoff and shades of the first three are really good. The Ivory shade…not so much! Aqua Cremes are waterproof and made to LAST. They do “set” rather fast so blending them out quickly is a must.

Availability: Sephora and Make Up For Ever boutiques.

Pricing: $45.00.

What say you about Black Tango? Yes, no, maybe so?

Note: Make Up For Ever is cruelty free.

Love the three dark shades! This palette seems like a great go-to for eyeliner or for a smokey eye not using the standard black. Pigmentation looks great, too.

I think the idea is fantastic, but I have neither the skills nor the need for a palette like this, so for the moment it’s no :)

It seems like the colors are all fairly similiar because they are so black, so not sure you need all three. The package is pretty though!

I’ve yet to try an aqua cream, so they interest me from that standpoint. Just not sure these colors would suit me though.

I wanted this palette sooo bad. Until I finally made my way to Sephora to test it and every one of them was dry like a rock. That doesn’t bode well for the life of these eye creams at home and I rarely use the same thing every day so… probably pass. Unless it comes up on super sale after the holidays. I’m only human. :p

They were probably dry because people have left them open. I have about 10 of their individual Aqua Creams and they are not hard or dry–over a year later. You just have to make sure that you close them up tight and you should be fine.

Personally, this palette does not call to me. One thing I am wondering is if MUFE is going to bring the 3 corresponding nail polishes over to the US? I got my hands on the black red polish but would love to have the other two. It seems that maybe it is a European exclusive?

This is a no for me – I cannot get theirs to stay put – my eyes water even a little and they run. I don’t get the same smear thing with Bobbi Brown despite the BB brand is not waterproof but they last on me better.

The blue is pretty, but I like more the packaging! Though (and I will digress) Tango does not really have to do with lace fan… believe me ;)

The products truly are outstanding. So far they are being used just as bases because they are far too intense on my skin solo. You also need a powder eyeshadow to blend them out as the are so intense you can’t really achieve a softly blended out edge. The packaging is so beautiful and smart though!
