Urban Decay The Vice Palette Swatches, Photos & Review

Urban Decay The Vice Palette

Fall is officially here and Urban Decay has a new palette called The Vice Palette to tempt your wallet. Is it too soon to start buying holiday gifts for yourself? 😉

The Vice Palette features twenty eyeshadows and not only that, these are NEW shades! Yup, these haven’t been released in any other palettes. Finally!

The palette features a great range of brights to neutrals and mattes to shimmers. It features a gigantic mirror inside as well as a dual-ended Good Karma Shadow and Crease Brush. The palette opens slowly with the push of a button.

Urban Decay The Vice Palette Swatches
Desperation, Muse, Jagged, Blitz, Penny Lane (over primer)

Desperation is a deep satiny taupe/grey.

Muse is a deep brown with gold sparkles.

Jagged is a light metallic black with heavy gold shimmer.

Blitz is a metallic yellow/gold with shimmer.

Penny Lane is a metallic peach/copper with shimmer.

Urban Decay The Vice Palette Swatches 2
Junkie, Chaos, Occupy, Unhinged, Black Market (over primer)

Junkie is a deep sea green/blue pearl with shimmer.

Chaos is a bright medium blue matte.

Occupy is a shimmery steel grey with shimmer.

Unhinged is a bright turquoise metallic with shimmer.

Black Market is a black satin.

Urban Decay The Vice Palette Swatches 3
Provocateur, Rapture, Vice, Noise, Armor (over primer)

Provocateur is a medium mauve with heavy gold sparkles.

Rapture is a deep amethyst with shimmer.

Vice is a purple with shimmer.

Noise is a bright pink with gold sparkles.

Armor is a medium grey with silver micro-glitter.

Urban Decay The Vice Palette Swatches 4
Nevermind, Echo Beach, Anonymous, Freebird, Laced (over primer)

Nevermind is a medium gold/taupe with shimmer.

Echo Beach is a light tan/gold with shimmer.

Anonymous is a pale off-white matte.

Freebird is a light pink with silver micro-glitter.

Laced is a pink/taupe matte.

Overall: I think this palette offers a good range of shadows, but I do wish there were a few more mattes. There are a lot of shimmery or micro-glitters in it, which I don’t always want. The payoff was pretty good with most of the shades over a primer. I would say the most problematic shades were Jagged, Black Market, Provocateur and Freebird. My favs are Muse (GORGEOUS), Junkie, Chaos (insane pigmentation) and Nevermind.

Availability: Sephora, Urbandecay.com, Ulta.

Pricing: $59.00.

What do you think about The Vice Palette? Will you be picking this one up?

I can generally avoid the allure of UD palettes, but I think this one may have to come home with me! It has such a great mix of colors an textures.

I’m on the fence about it. The two shades I was more interested in (Jagged and Freebird) are the problematic ones and I doubt I’d wear the blue, copper and pink shades so I’m not sure if it’s worth picking up for me.

  • September 26, 2012

I agree with you … I would like to see a few more mattes. I’m eyeing Junkie. I think it would match perfectly with my MAC Undercurrent eyeliner!

  • September 26, 2012

I’m really annoyed that this palette features so many browns/”nudes”. Since just about everyone who’d invest in this palette already HAS the Naked palette, what’s the point? I invest in Urban Decay for the things they can give me that no other brand offers.

Ouuuuh i might be tempted love the shades it could be a kit to go in my purse :)

  • September 26, 2012

    Soooo pretty!!!♥

Every time I see swatches of this palette, I am more tempted!

  • September 26, 2012

Gah, I’m seeing this everywhere and each time I see it I want it more and more! D: I would LOVE to have this but, in all honesty, probably don’t need it… :/ Gorgeous swatches!

    No, no, and more no.
I will not be picking this up.

It’s pretty. Urban Decay eyeshadows are all pretty and we all know this. But they’re going down the MAC route and pumping out palette after palette. Multiples of product but with no thought really put behind it because it’s the same thing over and over again. Same shades. Different names.

I’m still gutted that Jagged is a bit sheer, but overall this palette is amazing value!

This one looks pretty good – your swatches are really helpful. But, you’re definitely right about mattes. Does UD have something against matte shadows? If you’re spending that much and you have that many shadows in a palette, then the palette should be much more useable.

  • September 26, 2012

Kelly, how is the glitter fallout on these shadows? That is really the only thing holding me back, but it’a big deal for me. I can’t stand glitter tracked all over my face…

  • September 26, 2012

I agree, I wish UD would make more matte shades. Not everyone over 30 wants to shimmer and sparkle all of the time. I’ll be passing on this one.

  • September 26, 2012

I definitely agree with you, I think it’d be good if they included more mattes. I love the last photo of swatches – those are probably my favorite shades in the palette (of course they’re all neutrals… I’m pretty predictable)… Desperation and Muse are gorgeous, but I have the Sleek Au Naturale palette, which has comparable shades. I also like Penny Lane a lot, I just don’t know how much use I’d get out of it.

I wonder at $60, if the shadows are all that. They are pretty but nothing I haven’t seen before.

  • September 26, 2012

Hmm I can’t say I’m 100% on all these, but I just love Unhinged.

  • September 26, 2012

I actually like this palette! Although the colors aren’t very good for daily use, I’d still use it :)

  • September 26, 2012

I love everything UD has to offer! Still waiting for that matte palette though. That is going to be a huge seller. Wonder what they are waiting for? :)

Very pretty but I see a lot of common shades. I love Chaos but I can’t buy a palette for one shadow.

  • September 27, 2012

Wow they look gorgeous!!! I love the bottom row! They are all colors that I would use.

Yes, I just had to buy it as an early holiday present to myself :p I need to stop that…I have way too many UD palettes! I used Chaos this week and was disappointed with the pigmentation…I had a hard time getting it on and it didn’t last at all. I was amazed with Junkie, though.

  • September 29, 2012

From the second I heard about this palette, I wanted it so badly! But, alas, it wasn’t meant for me. Some of the shades still contain an ingredient that I have a cosmetic allergy to!

It’s such a shame because their newly formulated single eye shadows are free of that ingredient, and so I’ve just recently been able to wear Urban Decay shadows for the first time…and I’m enjoying the formula.

Hopefully they’ll eventually come out with palettes that have shadows with 100% of the new formula so I can buy a palette! :)

If UD put out an all matte palette it would sell out in 2 seconds (or less). They make such beautiful matte shadows. I would love to see them do an all matte palette…or even a half matte palette (and I see I am not alone!)! I love shimmery shadows too but I feel like my collection is bursting with shimmery shadows and in need of more mattes.

This palette has a lot of lovely shades but I’m not sure if I’m going to pick it up yet or not. I feel like I already own the entire top and bottom row…though I am one of those people that if I did buy this palette those shades would probably be the most used, lol. Junkie and Chaos made my heart skip a beat though, WOW!!! Rapture also has my name on it! 😀

I’m so sad to hear that Black Market was problematic! It looks so great in the swatch though I know it’s different when actually used. I love the idea of a black satin shadow! And Jagged! Ack! That one looks so beautiful in the pan!

Man…I kinda really want this palette now that I’m thinking about it. I reach for UD palettes more than anything else when I’m doing my makeup. If I see this at Ulta I probably will be like, can…not…resist…must…haz!!! Hahaa! Thanks for the awesome swatches and review! <3
