MAC Carine Roitfeld for Fall 2012 Swatches, Photos & Review

MAC and Carine Roitfeld have partnered together for a small collection centered around the smoky eye.
This collection includes a few different items as well as some accessories, but the most interesting looking thing to me are the Full Face Kits. These kits include four eyeshadows and a blush, and come in a “double-decker” sleek black compact.

Jungle Camouflage

Jungle Camouflage

Clockwise: Dew, “Camo”, Carbon, Bad Lieutenant

Dew, “Camo”, Carbon, Bad Lieutenant, Bootcamp Bronze (shadows over primer)
Dew is a pale beige with a soft texture (veluxe pearl).
“Camo” is a nice grey taupe, which I actually really like. Could make a good brow color (satin).
Carbon is a deep black. Very patchy, not good quality (matte).
Bad Lieutenant is a dark brown/black. Also patchy, not great (matte).
Bootcamp Bronze is a medium tan shade.
Overall: Not great, not great. In general the shades aren’t anything unique or very interesting. The payoff wasn’t that great either, especially for the matte shades. As far as Bootcamp Bronze, it’s definitely not a shade that I would ever use or would look good with my particular skin tone.
Availability: MAC.
Pricing: $44.00.
So now you have seen part of the MAC Carine Roitfeld collection, what do you think?
In other news:
As I had suspected for the last month or so, I did have something going awry with my stomach. I was diagnosed with a bacterial infection yesterday and am back on antibiotics and probiotics to try and kill it. Ironically, I may have picked up this particularly nasty bug at the hospital when I had my kidney stone shock wave treatment in July or from recently taking antibiotics. This whole thing makes me VERY weary of ever touching anything ever again, and I am definitely more highly aware of germs than ever before! WASH YOUR HANDS OFTEN with warm water and soap for 30 full seconds. And just so you know, this thing I caught is not killed by antibacterial gel, so washing hands might be better than using those gels all the time. And that’s my health awareness message of the day.
-Kelly
Note: MAC is not cruelty free.

I like the eyeshadow colors but the color pay-off is disappointing and that horrible blush shade makes this palette a huge miss.
I’m glad the finally found out what was wrong with your stomach! Hopefully those antibiotics and probiotics will do their job soon! It’s quite scary how you may gave gotten the infection at the hospital, one would think it’s one of the cleanest, most sanitized places to be.
Im glad they found out what the problem was! There is nothing worse than not knowing what is wrong! Hopefully the antibiotics will work quickly! Also thanks for the hand washing tip vs gel
Get well soon kelly. I’m loving camo.
Holy cow about your stomach! Not too surprised about where you got it though, my Grandpa was in and out of the hospital a lot a couple years ago and half the time he was in there because of some kind of sickness he got from being there before. Glad they figured out what’s been wrong though, wishing you a speedy recovery!

Glad you found out wait was ailing you. Hope meds work quickly so you can start feeling better.
Ugh, so sorry. I got C difficile (sounds similar to your issue) after surgery last summer and was in the hospital for a month. Can’t believe they just figured something like that out!
That is what I have!
Glad you’re on the mend! This MAC collection is def not for me.
I’m taking a microbiology course and the thing they emphasize the most is WASH your hands! I completely agree your health message of the day
As for the makeup I am not impressed. The color payoff doesn’t seen that great.
So sorry you have been / are ill, but I’m glad it’s been diagnosed and you’re being treated! Wishing you a speedy and complete recovery.

I’ve never commented before, but have been reading your blog for a while. I’m happy to see you back and that you are feeling better/being treated.
Sorry you’ve been feeling so poorly, but definitely glad they figured out what the issue was.
Not to get preachy, but washing your hands is way better than using anti-bacterial anything!! Don’t use anti-bacterial soaps or gels or whatever as they can lead the creation of super bug/drug resistant bacteria and don’t necessarily kill everything. Wash your hands often and be conscious of what you are touching! Good health message! =)
On to the product! I like the palette, but it seems fairly dupe-able and it’s a bummer about the quality of the shadows themselves, but the blush is horrid!! I mean, I’m sure it might work on certain people and look lovely, but to my eyes it looks practically unwearable. It just doesn’t seem like a flattering shade.

Pretty makeup. I am so happy to hear that they figured out what was wrong. It sucks but at least you know what you are up against. Feel better soon!

I’m sorry that you’re not feeling well.
I know how scary it can be to have belly pain. It just makes you feel this awful anxiety because you can tell undoubtedly that something is wrong. I hope your treatment gets you well again and that you can de-stress.
That is SO great they found out what was wrong! I mean – obviously it sucks that you had that, but it’s got to be such a relief to actually know what’s wrong and how to fix it. Hope you start feeling better really soon!
And yeah this collection – not impressed.

Glad you know what’s wrong and hopefully your back to normal soon. I know what it’s like going to hospitals and getting sick from being there. When I had my daughter I ended up getting bronchitis from the hospital.
So glad you found out what was up. I’m hoping this clears up quickly!!
I’m glad to see you back to posting! I hope you get better soon
I’m glad the doctors found out what it is! So hopefully you’re back to normal very soon!!
Thanks for the health awareness! I recently suffered from a salmonella infection. For a veggie who never eats chicken, this is very rare. But I share a kitchen with seven others (students!) so they probably didn’t clean enough!
Ladies and gentlemen, please keep your kitchen clean!
Oh, I’m glad to read they know what’s wrong and you’ll get better soon!

Glad to hear you found what was wrong!
Kelly, I am so happy for you that you found out what was causing your stomach issues and are getting treatment for it. I hope you get some relief with the antibiotic/probiotic program. Please get better soon!
I agree with you about this palette. Very blah and not usually what I would expect from MAC.
Staff infections are bad! My sister had to fight one for a month. They need to wash their hands too! I think this pallette is boring.

Glad you are on the mend – sucks when you don’t know what is wrong & you feel horrible. Hope you are feeling well soon.
i just had a UTI – 1st one in almost 40 yrs (yes I’m old – lol) and the antibiotics killed me – only 3 days of cipro but i couldn’t walk on the 2nd day – rare side effect of cipro that it affects your limbs – any my Chrioprator had me take Saccharomyces boulardii (a type of probiotics) which you get at a health food store for 2 wks after the antibiotics to build up the immune system in my stomach and then after that I went back to my normal probiotics.
Anyhow – I bought this full face kit and the reason I did – when I travel – i will use the cream blush as a bronzer – an all over wash and then I have 4 shadows in a small compact – i might need to take one other Chanel quad and a blush and I’m done. I agree the matt finishes are a little patchy and you really have to blend – still playing but think it will work for short trips.
Hope the antibiotics do the trick! What a nightmare situation but thankfully it is treatable.

So glad they found out what the problem is!
After having worked in hospitals and clinical environments for a while, I’ve learned how easy it is to pick up infections in them. I like to think I’ve built up my immune system through repeated exposure, but who really knows?
Antibiotics do bad things to me every time I take them:-(

Glad to hear that they finally found out what was going on – feel better soon!
i dont know why people still waste their money on such expensive products that don’t work when there are a lot of cheaper alternatives that work just as well or better. you just have to find them.
and i’m sorry to hear about your health =( i read your blog almost every single day and i really hope that you feel better soon.
Ah – the evil C-diff! Now that you know what you have the meds should clear it up for you. Good luck!
Hmm, those colours don’t really do much for me, either. Unlike the Marilyn Monroe collection that gets me excited =D
Hi Kelly, it is good to hear that you have found out what is wrong and started treatment for your stomach problem.
I send you wishes for a rapid recovery from my healing flower garden.
So, to summarize, $44, patchy, the color is bad, and these are overall not great.
Got it, thank you!
