Estee Lauder Pure Color Nail Lacquer in Viper for Fall 2012 Swatches, Photos & Review

Estee Lauder Viper 3 Estee Lauder Pure Color Nail Lacquer in Viper for Fall 2012 Swatches, Photos & Review

Estee Lauder and their Creative Makeup Director Tom Pecheaux have created a couple new Pure Color Nail Lacquer collections this fall that were inspired by Paris.

The collections are called Beyond Black and Metal Mania.

Beyond Black features five shades:

  • Caviar – Grey
  • Bete Noir – Purple
  • Blue Blood – Blue
  • Black Plum – Plum
  • Viper – Green

I ordered four of the five shades in Metal Mania, so stay tuned for those soon!

Viper

Viper is a blackened shimmery dark green. The first two coats of this the green looked really muddy and swampy, which I actually liked. With the third and final coat, it turned into more of an emerald green with brighter green shimmer. This is one of those greens that I can’t seem to resist, even though I probably have other similar ones. It reminds me a little of Pretty Serious Tux, but the greens are a bit different. It’s not the same green as Deborah Lippmann Don’t Tell Mama or RGB Sea either. So maybe I don’t have a dupe for it!

The formula was excellent as Estee lacquers usually are. Creamy and rich. You could probably do two thicker coats rather than three as I am prone to do.

Availability: Nordstrom, Estee Lauder.

Pricing: $20.00 for 0.3 oz (OUCH).

What do you think about Viper? Is it a green worth coughing up your green bucks for?

  • To me $20 for .3 oz just seems a little inflated especially for colors we have all seen before.

Just for the fact I dont have anything like this in my stash and the fact that it is so beautiful I definitely need this one.. what a gorgeous vampy shade..
And $20.. in the uk that equates to £12.87 considering OPI here is £11 and Butter LONDON is £13 and Deborah Lippmann is £14 – £16 I would call that pretty much average.. :\ it annoys me at how much cheaper everything is in the states. Its crazy that Butter London and Nails Inc are cheaper to import than to buy in the UK!! Not to mention Chanel and Dior being so much more here than in the US.. its not fair :(

  • This one is SO pretty! I can’t wait to see the rest of the shades you ordered!

As gorgeous is this is, there is absolutely no way I’m going to pay $20 for just over half of a normal size bottle.

  • It’s very pretty, but it seems like a slightly darker version of Zoya Veruschka and Revlon Rainforest, both of which i love and kinda think are perfect, so $20 is not worth it.

Although, China Glaze Glittering Garland might be the most similar.

Revlon Rainforest was the exact polish that came to mind when I saw the photo of Viper!

It’s beautiful but out of my price range. Reminds me of a Revlon Color Stay polish; will have to look for it as I can’t recall the name.

  • Such a beautiful color but $20 is just a bit much. Anyone know of a good dupe?

Meh. It’s pretty but I wouldn’t spend that much on any polish.

It’s pretty but too dark for me I think. I’ll stick to my Revlon Rainforest, one of my favorite green shimmers recently, and a fraction of the price.

  • This is SO gorgeous! I wish they were cheaper though. Can’t wait to see the rest of your swatches.

  • Nice color but way too expensive for such a small bottle. The color would have to be really special to get me to splurge that much!

  • This is so beautiful! I wish I could justify buying it, but for such a small bottle I’m not sure I can. I love the depth that the shimmer gives it, it’s so pretty!

I am more of a fan of blue, and I have a very very limited amount of green in my collection which I am thinking should change. I really love this color! I really think I may have to purchase! Unless some one knows of a spot on dupe! I love the shimmer in this!

Ok…Just went back through the other comments and will try to find Revlon Rainforest before I decide for sure on the splurge.! :)

I bought all of the Metal Mania ones. I couldn’t resist. I’m going to have to start working on the Beyond Black ones. I really like this green. I don’t think I have a dupe either.

  • My EL Rep in the UK told me that this is one of the limited edition colours from the new range, along with Caviar and a red polish.

I may have to buckle and release the wallet to get me this one, its lovely

I doubt it’s an exact dupe, but Wet n Wild Craze in Morbid is pretty darn close. Good formula, 2 medium coats, and it was $2. I’ll stick with my drugstore polish for now.

  • Gorgeous green but no way am I paying $20 for it…or any other polish.

  • So beautiful. The only Estee Lauder counter near me broke my heart when they stopped carrying nail lacquers, though! I really wanted Metallic Sage from last year, but couldn’t get my hands on it. Despite the price tag, I still adore the heavy ice-cube shaped bottle.

Viper looks so gorgeous on you! I’m quite pale so I have appreciation for colors like this because they really do look flattering on me. The price is PAINFUL for so little polish though I love the luxurious bottle; the heavy glass cube with the sphere of beautiful polish inside is a delight to behold and use. Great to hear Viper’s formula is so nice. EL polishes seem to have great formulation overall, to me anyway (and they should at that price point!). :)

Though Viper is tempting I will probably pass because I already have so many blackened greens. I think my stash hit the 2000-ish mark in the last couple months. (((*blushes*))) Needless to say I’ve got to LOVE a polish A LOT to buy it.

As for Metal Mania…can I just say that I really hope that my EL stash increases by about five bottles, lol! I’ve only seen promo images so far but gorgeous glitters inspired by nights in The City of Light sounds AWESOME. Glitter polishes are my favorite so if I see swoon worthy swatches I hope to be able to indulge and get some of them.

I’d love to see the Metal Mania Collection in person so I’ll be giving Nordstrom a call for sure. I’d also love to see the Beyond Black Collection while I’m there. I’m sooooooooo super excited for your swatches of Metal Mania!!! :D

For a very similar affordable version go for Revlon Rainforest. It’s gorgeous and about $4. :)
