BB Couture Shades of Grey Collection Swatches & Review
BB Couture Shades of Grey is a new six-piece collection named after a certain uber popular book which shall not be named.
I’ll admit, I started and initially liked this book that shall not be named. But about halfway through I nearly lost my mind with the horrible writing. I mean there is silly trashy writing and then there is this book that shall not be named. A book I could have written when I was a pre-teen. That’s how bad it is.
ANYWAY onto the nail collection! Obviously as the name implies, these nail lacquers are all shades of grey. All are glittery or shimmery and most were three coats for me.
Smoke
Smoke is a light grey with shimmer. This is a really strange color because in the bottle, it looks like it has swirls of shimmery pink or copper. But on the nail the flecks look dark grey. You can see just a hint of that pink/copper on my pointer finger towards the cuticle and on the tip of my pinky finger. But it’s incredibly subtle. This was rather sheer and I used three coats.
Shaded Ash
Shaded Ash is a murky medium greyed out green with silvery frosty shimmer. This looks a little more grey in the bottle than on the ail. I rather like this shade, it’s not a very common green. This was also a little thin and I used three coats.
Grey Matter
Grey Matter is a smokey silvery grey shimmer with tiny flecks of green glitter. Pretty shade, very sparkly. This was three coats.
Briquette
Briquette is a cool-toned charcoal grey with multi-colored flecks of micro glitter. Another nice grey shade, and pretty unique. This was also three coats.
Starry Starry Taupe
Starry Starry Taupe is a medium taupe/grey with multi-colored micro glitter. The formula with this was excellent, Not too sheer, very smooth and buttery and just two coats.
Puce
Puce is a dark plum/grey with silvery shimmer and red and green micro glitter. This is a really gorgeous unique shade and my favorite one here. Great creamy formula and just two coats.
Overall: I think most of these shades are pretty unique and I really loved Shaded Ash, Starry Starry Taupe and Puce. I do think that the micro-glitter felt the same with some of them though, so that can get a bit boring after you’ve seen it a few times.

The book never interested me for some reason, but the polishes are pretty! I think I like Smoke the best – it reminds me of a formica countertop:-)

All together the collection is kind of boring, but the shades themselves are pretty. I really like Smoke and Starry Starry Taupe though.

Heads up- it looks like you’ve got Starry Starry Taupe and Briquette switched. Briquette is the darker charcoal one, Starry Starry Taupe is the browner, lighter one (at least, that’s how my bottles and the BBC website have them labeled)

I completely agree about the book! Despite my discountenance, I still read all three.
I got a few chapters into the first book that shall not be named and thought the same thing about the writing. Ugh. Love Smoke though! Such an interesting shade – almost looks like a countertop and for some reason that makes me want it?

I don’t think I can, in good conscience, buy anything that was inspired by that book series.

This series of nail polishes could do a nice ‘ombre’ manicure, don’t you think?
The collection is a bit “meh” for my tastes but thank god for your thoughts on the book. I have always said it reads as though it was written by a teenager and it’s absolutely horrific writing. Ana channels her inner goddess far too much and Christian, well his head must be wonky as he “cocks his head” so many times. Load of utter shit.
Not too often I like an entire set of nail polish, but these are all lovely – I’d wear all of them!
Read “Ender’s Game” instead – I’m totally engrossed in it right now and nearly missed my BART exit while I reading it on the way back from Oakland this morning. Then you’ll be all ready for the Ender’s Game movie coming out next year. There’s some good actors in the movie, so hopefully, it’ll be a good one! All I know though, is that the story is really good.
Aren’t there about 44 polishes too few?
Anyway, I feel no desire whatsoever to read that book.

Read the book. Not impressed. However, I strangely like smoke. It reminds me of concrete. Not sure if I’d wear it or buy it but it sure is cool looking.

Imtired of hearing about this book and now we have polish?! Someone gave my sister that book and I tried to read itbecause I was visiting her at the hospital but I quit after 5 pages. It is like when you are in middle school and everyone is reading it because of peer pressure or to fit in not because its good. The only polish I like is pice.

These are beautiful, but I don’t know if I’m getting jaded or something, but nothing screams particularly unique to me. (Which is a shame, as they are obviously going for unique…)
On an unrelated note, my mother was visiting me today and mentioned she’d bought the entire 50 Shades trilogy *cringe* and she can’t wait to discuss it with me, never mind the fact that I was able to only finish the first 50 pages of the first book due to horrendous writing.

If you want to read something along the same likes as that which shall not be named, try Bared to You by Sylvia Day. It’s well written and you won’t want to throw the book across the room!
Although there are some nice greys here I think Puce is the only one I’d buy. I haven’t read the books, I think I read the first chapter online and it didn’t really do anything for me. The writing was not good at all so I’m not sure why everyone got all hot and bothered for it. There are a lot of good romance/erotica stories out there if you really want to read that, those don’t strike me as being some of them.
I love gray nail polish so much, so I was excited about the title of this post – but none of these are really calling to me. Too bad!

I love grey polishes, not so much poorly written books (I already read slatings about the series even if here’s a lot of advertisment “hype” about it) so…I’ll be content with adding some of these to my stash (if I can get them in my country) and nothing to my bookshelf.

I’m definitely lacking in grey nail polish so this collection is really catching my eye. Smoke is definitely my favorite!
I love Smoke! Looks like a perfect winter shade to me! Makes me think of a warm fuzzy sweater.

Mmm, they are nice shades of Grey but I don’t really like much collections that are all the same colour, it’s kind of boring, isn’t it? I would never buy the lot, but maybe one or two. BTW, I have no idea of what book you are all talking about … O_o Maybe it has not come out here in Spain or something?
