Urban Decay Smoked Eyeshadow Palette for Fall 2012 Swatches, Photos & Review

Urban Decay Smoked Eyeshadow Palette Urban Decay Smoked Eyeshadow Palette for Fall 2012 Swatches, Photos & Review

Urban Decay Smoked Eyeshadow Palette is new for fall 2012. This palette features ten eyeshadows, a full sized 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Perversion, and a travel sized Primer Potion.

This set comes in a cool and different type of palette. It’s a black metallic hard fabric with a zip-around opening. Inside is a large mirror. The shadows come in a variety of finishes including matte, metallic and shimmery. It’s a nice mix of light to deep shades, I think. Five of the ten shadows are new ones that haven’t been released previously, and are exclusive to this palette. They are: Asphalt, Backdoor, Barlust, Freestyle and Kinky.

Also included is an illustrated booklet featuring tons of different looks, step-by-step instructions on how to get the looks, and other cool tips for application. The looks include: Iconic, Iconic with Color, Smoldering, Matte, Rockstar, Sculpted, Enigma, Cat Eye, Vixen, Midnight, Red Carpet and Reality Star.

Kinky, Freestyle, Mushroom, Backdoor, Blackout (over primer)

Kinky is a pale vanilla/peach matte. Soft and pretty, perfect for a highlight shade or inner corner. This is a new shade.

Freestyle is a light nude/tan matte. Great payoff, another soft and even matte color. This is a new shade.

Mushroom is a medium shimmery grey. Soft, nice pigmentation.

Backdoor is a dark cool-toned brown matte. I love this shade, it’s kind of a greyish/brown and had nice payoff. This is a new shade.

Blackout is a jet black matte. It’s super black yes, but was a bit patchy even over a primer for me.

Perversion Liner on top, Barlust, Rockstar, Evidence, Loaded, Asphalt (over primer)

Perversion 24/7 liner is a dark carbon black and so soft. It’s one of my favorite black liners ever, love it.

Barlust is a dark warm brown metallic. Excellent payoff! In fact, all of the bottom row has insane pigmentation. This is a new shade.

Rockstar is a deep aubergine shimmer. One of my favorite eyeshadow and eyeliner shades. Gorgeous.

Evidence is a dark yet super bright metallic navy blue. So pretty.

Loaded is a deep emerald green shimmer. This shade is ULTRA pigmented and utterly amazing. My favorite one here.

Asphalt is a medium grey/silver metallic with silver micro-glitter. The micro-glitter isn’t that noticeable, which I prefer. This is a new shade.

Overall: I think this is a really great palette. The color and finish combos can create a huge variety of looks. The fact that almost all the shadows are soft and incredibly pigmented makes it even better. I love the full-size Perversion liner that comes with it, and the mini Primer Potion is always good to have. Also I want to mention the illustrated booklet inside which for once is actually something I might USE! Good value for what you get.

Availability: Urban Decay.

Pricing: $49.00. Eyeshadows are 0.03 oz each. Liner is 0.04 oz and Primer Potion is 0.13 oz.

How do you feel about the Smoked Palette? Is this something you will be adding to your stash?

Stay tuned in upcoming days for some more looks using this palette!

-Kelly

  • I love the look of this. And I appreciate the fact that I don’t already own half the shades, as is the case with the majority of the palettes UD has come out with lately.

The smokey eye looks fantastic on you, by the way. :) What are you wearing on your cheeks? Looks very fresh.

  • Very pretty look on you!

Not sure that I will get this one. It may need to percolate for a while.

  • i LOVE wearing smokey eyes (the looks you created are stunning!) and it seems like there’s a lot I could work with in the palette, but I think I’ll have to save up a bit or put it on hold until I buy this… Especially since I got the naked AND naked 2 palette recently!

  • Hmm I think I would skip this pallet only because I don’t really think dark shadows look good on me. However, I would totally pick up the single of Mushroom, so pretty!

    July 14, 2012
  • I really like the idea! Smokey eyes don’t have to be gray, black, and more black. It’s totally possible to corporate some colors! I personally won’t be adding this to my stash because the only two shades I want but don’t have yet are Mushroom and Loaded. For the rest I either own them already or have something similar enough. I do think there could be maybe a couple more light-to-medium shades as well. That would create more varieties! Love the idea of the booklet. Beginners won’t have that “now what” moment after getting a palette!

I love the look you created! This is a nice combo of finishes and colors but I didn’t really care for mattes. Would love to see a look with Loaded, such a pretty shade.

I had seen this but thought I would pass on it..now reading your write up and seeing them on your eyes, I feel I might spring for this one. It’s different enough from the other UD pallets I have. Your coloring is a lot like mine only my hair right now is not colored so I have my ash blond thing going on and my eyes are green not blue as yours. I am ready to start to wear a darker eye again. I need something to shake up my look and bringing my eyes out is usually a good thing to make a noticeable change.

    July 14, 2012
  • These two looks are great on you, Kelly. Phyrra recommended the Perversion liner to me just a couple of days ago.

I plan on purchasing more UD to show my support in their decision to remain cruelty-free.

  • As much as I love UD palettes, I don’t plan to get this one because I already have the liner and half of the shades. I’m more into their bigger palettes like the Book of Shadows and Anniversary palette.

I’m not the biggest UD fan out there (Binge e/l is the only must have item of theirs for me) but I LOVE the reviews/swatches I’ve seen so far and I think I’m going to have to break down and get this. Love your look using it and the blush color is fab on you!

I like this palette and kind of want this palette. If my job were stable right now, I’d buy it, but I ‘m not too sad to hold off until things settle. I like the idea of the booklet.

Seeing your swatches turned this palette into a must-have for me! I would literally use every single shade, love them all! And…can I just say how much I LOVE when Urban Decay includes their 24/7 pencils with their palettes. The inclusion of the wonderful 24/7 pencil always seems to push me from hmmm maybe to yeah definitely. :D

Your swatch of Loaded almost made me faint, lol! Dude. Gorgeous!!!!!!!! Rockstar also had me drooling. :D ”’ That bottom row is phenomenal! Backdoor is my favorite from the top row. Though Kinky, Freestyle, Mushroom, and Backdoor would get lots of loving wear for quick neutral day looks or for pairing with a statement lip color. *swoon*

    Yep. I’ve decided. I need this palette. It’s a must-have! :D

The look you are sporting is stunning! Would love to see more looks like this on you! I’m on the fence – of all things, it is the zipper closure that is giving me pause. If I’m in a hurry in the morning to have to zip it open & zip it closed… I realize we’re talking seconds longer not minutes but it’s a mental thing. Do you think the zipper will hold up for the life of the palette?

I’m so late to this post! I didn’t have much thought of getting this palette when it was first released, but now that it’s Christmas time.. Hehehe The look you did is STUNNING! I can’t believe I’m the first to ask – but what color are you wearing on your lips? I love how it pulls everything together!
