San Francisco in July

San Francisco July 2012 San Francisco in July

This past weekend we decided to venture into San Francisco for fun. We started off at The Melt in the financial district, where we had those wonderful mac & cheese & bacon sandwiches. Then we meandered up a couple blocks to Chinatown. But before that I took this photo of the Transamerica Pyramid peeking out in-between two buildings. It’s the tallest skyscraper in SF!

Pacific Heights is my favorite neighborhood in SF because it’s the richest and I have $$$$ taste, haha. Can you imagine living up here with these amazing views? But even if I was that rich I don’t think I would live there because of the fog, cold and earthquake zone, sigh.

Sometimes you see something a bit odd in front of these mansions. But it is San Francisco after all!

No this isn’t Lombard Street. It’s someone driveway! A mini Lombard Street.

That driveway leads to this super modern house. One of these things doesn’t belong…

Finally we ventured over to Victorian Row in Alamo Square. No it’s not called Full House, it’s Victorian Row (or The Painted Ladies)! This is probably one of the most photographed areas in SF aside from the Golden Gate Bridge. You see it literally in EVERY single TV show or movie taking place here. Believe it or not, I’ve lived in the Bay Area 40 years and this is the first time I ever saw it in person.

Such a pretty city. I’m glad I live close enough to easily get here when I want.

  • I love San Francisco!! My parents have a house right behind UCSF Med Center, and we actually have FOREST both up and down the hill from the house. It’s amazing! I just got back from there last Friday and I already miss it <3

Great photos of ‘the City’ as we always have referred to it when you live anywhere ~150 miles close to SF. I spent my first couple nights of my honeymoon in Pacific Heights district (also one of my fav areas in the City)…we had the VP suite at the Mark Hopkins, complete with both a glassed in heated garden and a roof top garden. This was a long time ago and I recall thinking how cool it was to have a phone in the bathroom! We had a full kitchen (used for catering services), and carpet so plush and thick it was delish. We could never have found a better view being that high up and on a north-east corner of the building which gave us full view of GG bridge – Alcatraz – across the bay in 2 directions – and a little look toward the Bay Bridge area – the lights were magnificent with Coit Tower right close by of course. Sooooo we had the full on room service dinner and ate it on the heated, glassed in porch. I cannot imagine how expensive per night that room would be today! Not sure I can get my mind yet around your mac/cheese, bacon melt – but next time I make mac and cheese I might try it – with some turkey bacon prob. as I tend not to buy pork bacon. I cannot wait for tourist season to end and the City not be full of ‘em. But next to getting to the City, I love to spend time in Monterey/Pacific Grove. I am lucky that I can even go for the day – but so much fun to spend a few nights.

Even after years of reading your blog and knowing you lived in California, I somehow missed that you lived in the Bay Area. I grew up not far from there in Mountain View. San Francisco is seriously one of my favorite cities in the world. So much to see and do there!

It is my dream to visit and even live in this city one day. I’m sure it’s a beautiful, beautiful city. You’re so lucky that you’re close enough to visit the city so often. :)
