China Glaze On Safari Collection for Fall 2012 Swatches & Review

China Glaze On Safari is new this fall (I know fall already?) and features twelve new shades.
Somewhat related to this but not really is my favorite shade of all time by any brand which is…China Glaze Out On Safari! You can read the story behind that here if interested.

Kalahari Kiss
Kalahari Kiss is an interesting putty/beige/slightly yellow creme. I really like this shade because it’s pretty unique and weird. It reminds me of the original color that computer CPU’s were back in the day. Or old 1960′s metal filing cabinets! It was on the thicker side but I only needed two coats.

Desert Sun
Desert Sun is a burnt orange/brown creme. Another interesting shade that isn’t very common. This was a little more sheer and thin, so I used three coats.

Elephant Walk
Elephant Walk is a grey/silver shimmer. Despite the description, which sounds a bit common, this is a really unique shade for me. The shimmer is slightly blue and it looks anywhere from grey to blue to silver to almost green in certain lighting. I really like it, it’s one of my favs here. This was three thin coats.

Exotic Encounters
Exotic Encounters is a medium teal green creme. Kind of a dusty teal with blue undertones. Really nice shade, great formula. This was three thin coats.

Jungle Queen
Jungle Queen is a dusty violet with heavy purple shimmer. I do think it’s a dupe for Chanel Paradoxal but haven’t yet compared them side by side to be sure. Very pretty shade nonetheless, and this was two coats.

Man Hunt
Man Hunt is a bright cobalt blue jelly. Super gorgeous and crisp blue! Perfection in just two coats. Love this one.

I’m Not Lion
I’m Not Lion is a cool-toned gold glitter with holographic glitter. This covered nicely in three thin coats.

I Herd That
I Herd That is a copper and orange glitter, with a little holo glitter mixed in. I like this combo, more unique to me than I’m Not Lion is, although I’m Not Lion looks a little more holographic than this. This was three thin coats.

Adventure Red-y
Adventure Red-y is a bright red creme. Classic red creme, not much to say about it. Nice coverage in two coats.

Purr-fect Plum
Purr-fect Plum is a deep plum creme. Dark, rich and just two coats.

Prey Tell
Prey Tell is a super dark, vampy red creme. Almost black looking, but not quite. This is three thin coats and not super even at first.

Call Of The Wild
Call Of The Wild is a super dark brown/red creme. This looks fairly similar to Pray Tell in photos but more different in real life. This is also a bit uneven though, and I used three coats.
Overall: Honestly? I’m not blown away by any of the colors in this collection. I just felt a little uninspired about this collection as a whole because it feels like there are too many dark cremes that are similar and the glitters seem like we’ve seen them before. The ones I really liked are Kalahari Kiss, Elephant Walk, Man Hunt and Exotic Encounters.
Availability: Online, in stores.
Pricing: $7.00 for 0.5 oz.
What do you think about the On Safari collection? Does it excite you or are you bored by these shades? Will you be picking any up?

Note: China Glaze is cruelty free.

I’m not personally crazy about the colors in this collection because they’re just not my style, but, I absolutely love I’m Not Lion! It’s beautiful xoxo

Jungle Queen is close to Paradoxal, but the shimmer is slightly different. Not enough that if you missed Paradoxal (or didn’t want to shell out that much $$) and the one dead-on dupe, Revlon’s Perplex, you won’t be at all disappointed with JQ. I have Perplex, and as exact as it is to Paradoxal, I hate the formula. Cuticle flooding city! Yuck! So I’m going to pick up JQ because CG can almost always be counted on for a great formula.
The only one that interests me is Elephant Walk – because it’s so very different. The other shades aren’t doing anything for me right now, but watch: in six months I’ll have to have about half of them

Lol totally agree!

I’m pretty much in love with this whole collection. I’ve only been really into nail polish for around 18 months, so even the less-than-unique colors in this collection would be unique in my stash!
kalahari kiss is just weird enough that i might buy it, even if it’d make me loud sickly.
I’m liking Desert Sun and Elephant Walk. I’m wearing a shade very similar to Kalahari Kiss right now, maybe a shade darke.

I really thought I would love this collection when I saw the press releases, but for some reason none of them really wow me. I could also be reaching a max on my nail polish collection as well which might explain my malaise.

I totally agree! I’m looking for truly unique polishes to add to my collection. I haven’t seen many of those lately which is probably good for my wallet!
I got Kalahari Kiss, Desert Sun and Exotic Encounters, but I’m considering going back for Elephant Walk, and maybe even Man Hunt (I have too many blues for how often I actually wear them, but it’s such a pretty color). I think the glitters look really pretty and seem to cover well… but I never actually wear glitters and I have enough never-worn polishes in my stash as it is.
I have the entire collection. Yep. I love it so very much!
I think I need Exotic Encounters and Jungle Queen. I say I need to stop buying teals and blues, but then there’s always a new one that I need to have! Other than that, I’ve got colors that look like most of these already. I’m not sure about Desert Sun, I think it might look like OPI Chopsticking To My Story but I’m not sure.

I was a little bored by this collection, too, but I did pick up the two glitters last week at Sally’s, because I love gold-y glitter. I can’t decide if I need Elephant Walk or not…I get a lot of China Glaze on clearance at Sally’s so I might be picking it up there in a few months, ha!
I LOVE this collection, especially the brown/tan/orange shades. I’ve gotten 7 of them, and I love them. The only one I’m kind of “meh” on is the “I Herd That” glitter…it looks just like “Electrify” from Hunger Games collection, except it’s finer. But maybe I should combine them!
Thanks for the swatches!!!
Gorgeous swatches! I def need to pick up Elephant Walk and Man Hunt.

boo i don’t like any of these :\
Your swatches definitely convinced me to grab part of this collection. I decided to get the 6 pack “Native” part of the collection.

I feel the same way about these that I did about the Hunger Games collex – which I then bought 8 of, one at a time
So I will probably end up with most of them.
They’re all pretty dark for my liking. The only one I’d consider getting is Elephant Walk.

The only shade I’m kind of interested in is I’m Not Lion. I don’t do glitter but for this one I might make an exception! Other than that I’m not too excited about it to be honest!

I’m really loving elephant walk and jungle queen…guess I’m just in the mood for fall already. Some of the reds and plums looked pretty ho-hum to me. None of it looks bad, of course, but I think I’m most excited for elephant walk, jungle queen and desert sun. I think some really awesome fall manicures could be put together with those shades.
I’ve been itching to get my hands on Kalahari Kiss for weeks now! I still haven’t seen them in the stores near me, and I’m dying for them to! Again though, I’m a pretty new nail polish collector, so even less unique things still fill holes in my collection..
Loving most of the colors here. The teal, plum, and reds are a bit boring though. However, China Glaze scores again with their unusual colors and glitters!

I just picked up I’m Not Lion today, the rest were kinda boring to me. I might want Jungle Queen though when I see how it compares to Paradoxal/Perplex.

I was at the mall today and was soooo tempted to buy I’m Not Lion. It’s so pretty!! Now seeing it on your blog it feels like fate… I will be picking it up next time around!

I’m really curious how Desert Sun compares to OPI And Apple Pie! Do you have a swatch in your gallery to compare?

I don’t have that one sorry!
I can see myself picking up Purr-fect Plum and Jungle Queen b/c I can’t resist a purple, but that’s about it. Nice swatches, too!
I’m gonna go to Sally’s this weekend and see if they have these. I’m thinking I only really need 6 of them so that’ll save me some money at least. I think my 2 faves are the pretty/ugly colors Kalahari Kiss and Desert Sun.
I’m not very excited with this collection either…. I picked sone because a frien can get a really good price: kalahari kiss, elephant walk, exotic encounters and the glitters. I haven’t seen them in person yet

I broke down a couple of days ago + ordered the collection. There were just too many I liked not to get them all. Nice swatches!
I bought 6 of them off Transdesign a few weeks ago (Kalahari Kiss, I’m Not Lion, Man Hunt, Exotic Encounters, Desert Sun and Jungle Queen), though the only ones I’ve worn so far are the first 3. All went on beautifully, though!
The first 8 are gorgeous even though some are not entirely unique. The last 4 are completely forgettable to me. I think I like Desert Sun, Elephant Walk and I Herd That the most.
I ordered the whole collection from eBay. Got it for $30.00 with display.
Patty´s last post…Green Gradient
I love almost all of these, especially Kalahari Kiss! I ordered the whole set on Amazon for only $40! Can’t wait to get them. Great swatches!
Samantha´s last post…My Floam Dupe!
Jungle Queen, Manhunt & Exotic Encounters caught my eye! I don’t have any colors like these in my collection so will look to pick up these 3.
Purr-fect Plum, Adventure Red-y & Pray Tell look fabulous – I love reds that run the gamut from bright to vampy – but I need more red polishes like this like I need a hole in the head!
It could be because it’s about 105 degrees outside and the sun is really begging for more bright colors, but none of the colors really call my name. Maybe because I am nowhere near in the mood for fall. Yet.
If I had to pick, I’d go for Elephant Walk and Purr-fect Plum.

I dig then.i love dark colors.gotta get them.
I picked up Kalahari Kiss, Desert Sun, and I’m Not Lion- which were three of the more unique shades in the collection, I think. I agree with you on there being too many of the deep plums/reds.

I didn’t get the reds or blue; not unique. But I do like the others. I didn’t feel they were boring at all. However, releasing a fall collection in June couldn’t have been a good idea for sales. I wonder if more folks would like them if they came out actually IN fall!

Disappointing! I might pick up Elephant Walk, I’m Not Lion, or I Herd That but none of them are going on my must have list.
I think I’ll pick up Jungle Queen and Elephant Walk. They’re both so pretty!

Autumn Rush´s last post…The Summer Blues
A nice collection but overall nothing that hasn’t already been done. A few of the cremes caught my eye (Exotic Encounters for one, because I’m a sucker for greens although even that seems easily dupable) but really it was the two glitters. Unfortunately, they are a little too fine for my taste and aren’t, in general, colors that would stand out on my skin tone. I’m sure once I see them in stores I’ll still browse the colors cause they are all gorgeous in bottle but no doubt I’ll talk myself out of buying these superfluous colors.
