Makeup Geek Eyeshadow Swatches & Review – Part I

Makeup Geek Eyeshadow Makeup Geek Eyeshadow Swatches & Review Part I

I’m sure you guys know about Marlena who has the great MakeupGeek channel on YouTube, right? She’s an amazing makeup artist, and seems like an all-around really nice, genuine person. Anyway, when I found out (from Phyrra) that she had a line of eyeshadows (and now lipsticks) out, I definitely wanted to check them out!

Makeup Geek Eyeshadows come in 56 shades currently, are cruelty free, paraben and talc free, and made in the USA. They come either in a refill pan, which you can insert into a MAC palette or Z Palette (my choice) or whatever you want. You can also get them in their own individual compacts.

These eyeshadows are super soft and incredibly pigmented. I am really, really blown away by the quality. They are 0.064 oz, which makes them a little larger than MAC shadows which are 0.05 oz.

I bought twelve shades to try out and let me tell you, it was hard to narrow down which ones to get! I decided on six more natural colors and six brighter ones.

Today we’ll check out the natural ones. So lets do this thing!

I’m going to wind up saying this for all of these, so I’ll just say it once right now. These are incredibly soft and pigmented. Some of them you barely have to touch to get so much payoff. They are truly great eyeshadows, and blow away most MAC eyeshadows in terms of texture and payoff.

Galaxy is a deep metallic gunmetal grey. Smoky, deep and divine.

Burlesque is a deep purple/red metallic. Really beautiful shade.

Brown Sugar is a warm copper with shimmer. So pretty I think this is one of my favs. Really nice medium shade.

Pretentious is a medium metallic bronze. Another metal-like looking shade that I adore.

Preppy is a matte khaki/taupe. Wow! For a matte it was so smooth and even. Great shade, even for brows.

Glamorous is a shimmery gold/orange/bronze. Another one I completely love and looks especially amazing on blue eyes.

Overall: I think you can tell I REALLY love these shadows! Such great quality and colors, and so inexpensive for what you are getting. I definitely prefer to spend my money on eyeshadows that are soft, easy to work with and super pigmented, and these are that.

Availability: Makeup Geek.

Pricing: $5.99 for 0.064 oz for pan refills and $7.99 for 0.064 oz for compacts (which can easily be de-potted).

So now that you have seen them, what do you think about these shadows?

-Kelly

Note: Makeup Geek is cruelty free.

    • I’m starting to feel that way also. How is it that MAC can’t get theirs as soft and pigmented? Makes no sense.

I have 15 MUG shades in a zpalette I purchased from makeupgeekdotcom and I LOVE THEM! Prior to purchasing MUG shadows, I used the Naked palette almost daily. Now I just use it for the mirror! I think the MUG shadows are better than UD, especially now that they changed the formula. A little MUG goes a long way, they have beautiful colors, loads of staying power. You are actually wearing one of my favorite looks. You only need Shimma Shimma on the brow and we’re twins!

    June 5, 2012
    • I agree, the ones I tried were better than UD or MAC for sure. So soft and pigmented and yep, you only need a little. Why can’t all eyeshadow be like that?

  • I can’t wait to see the bright swatches, loving the cyan on the end! I like the natural ones you have today, they are the kind of natural colors I usually use. I especially like Glamorous. Too bad I have makeup basically coming out of my ears right now, haha!

  • I have 15 pans of Makeup Geek Eyeshadows. I reviewed Corrupt, Cocoa Bear, Unicorn, Shimmermint, Shimma Shimma, Razzleberry, Peacock previously. Shimmermint and Shimma Shimma are my favorite of the lot, Razzleberry and Corrupt I did not like so much.

My next batch of Envy, Burlesque, Ocean Breeze, Bada Bing, Glamorous, Galaxy and Dirty Martini are still sitting pretty in their box, unopened. I haven’t had time to photography them before trying them!
