Dermelect Cosmeceuticals Nail Color Swatches & Review

Dermelect Nail Color Dermelect Cosmeceuticals Nail Color Swatches & Review

Have you heard of Dermelect Cosmeceuticals yet? Well they just launched a line of six new nail colors that are the first ever peptide infused nail lacquers.

What the hay does that mean? Here’s what they say:

Infused with ProSina, a pure protein peptide extracted from New Zealand sheep’s wool, the lacquers deliver a fast drying, high gloss shine while providing an unequaled level of strength for stubborn nails to grow longer and more resistant to chipping, peeling and splitting. The first coat instantly bonds to the nail, while the second fuses with the base coat to create a flexible web of color that resists chipping and improves brittleness (patent-pending technology). The ME colors combine fast drying, high shine, and a healthy ‘green’ dose of vitamins, peptides, and moisture, offering a colorful solution to the contemporary woman’s beauty concern—aging hands and nails.

Not sure about all that since I have only just swatched them, but it would be a nice added bonus if it worked! For me, all I really care about in a nail polish is is the color great and the formula nice? Everything else is just gravy.

I must say though, I really like the bottle design, caps and font on the front. Very modern and clean. icon smile Dermelect Cosmeceuticals Nail Color Swatches & Review

Derelect Above It Dermelect Cosmeceuticals Nail Color Swatches & Review
Above It

Above It is a sky blue creme. The formula is a somewhat thin and sheer, but it builds up nicely. After three thin coats it’s completely opaque. Very pretty color.

Dermelect Luxurious Dermelect Cosmeceuticals Nail Color Swatches & Review
Luxurious

Luxurious is a medium lilac creme. The formula with this shade was a little thicker and less sheer. I only needed two coats for coverage. Pretty lavender shade!

Dermelect Head Turner Dermelect Cosmeceuticals Nail Color Swatches & Review
Head Turner

Head Turner is a hot, bright tangerine. My camera wanted to make this look a little more orange than it really is. It’s a tad more tangerine in real life. Nice formula, total coverage in two coats.

Overall: While I’m not sure about if I need peptides in my nail polish, it can’t hurt! I think the formula and shades are nice. These three aren’t the most unique colors out there, but still nice ones.

Availability: Dermelect.

Pricing: $14.00 for 0.4 oz.

What do you think about these? Are you interested in the whole peptide thing?

Note: Dermelect is cruelty free.

The swatches are nice enough, but I can’t see me (or anyone with any kind of sizable stash that changes colors frequently) using them often enough to see the benefits of the polish.

I’m sure the formula is part of the reason for the higher price point too, and for me the colors aren’t unique enough to justify it.

I do love the bottles though!

  • Luxurious and Above It are very beautiful shades! I’m not sure about all the peptide thing either haha I want my polishes to be B3F, nice and easy to use… I already use treatments, so I don’t need that on the polish itself. But as you said, it can’t hurt!!
I don’t think i’ll try them because of the price, a little high for 0.4 oz and not very original colors…
    Thanks for the swatches!

  • I think what would be the difference maker for me is if these polishes actually provide longer wear time before the nail polish starts chipping off. If not, I wouldn’t be that interested.

  • Nice colors but they really aren’t special enough to spend $14 on. I’d pass.

  • If I didn’t already have similar colors I think I might be interested in these. The added benefits would be great assuming they’re actually true. That being said, I really like the bottle design. These colors are bright and cheery.

  • I like Head Turner! I can see the value of a polish that treats as well – especially for those who like to wear their polishes for a while. If I’m going to pay $14 for a polish (which I’m not, usually), I’m going to want it to do something more than just look pretty.

Is it wrong that I keep thinking of Zoolander? :) Pretty colors, but I never keep a polish on long enough for anti aging benefits to work….

That’s the first thing I thought of too :-)

  • I have never heard of that brand before. To be honest those polishes don’t look interesting enough to me to pay $14 each and this peptide basically is a modified keratin (which is probably present in other polishes as well?!)

Peptides, topically applied vitamins and all that other junk can’t do anything for nails. Nails are dead material. A patent on an ingredient or a technology only means its unique, not that it works. They’re pretty colors. That’s it. Only certain proteins, certain fluoride and/or calcium formulations and formalin can actually strengthen a nail through tightening the keratin bonds. Peptides don’t have those properties. One more lie by a cosmetics company. Take the colors and formula at face value and ignore the claims.

    June 14, 2012
    • I was going to agree. Peptides are, also, rather large molecules and don’t readily absorb into the skin or rather, the nail. I think the acidic ph of the ingredients in polish would actually destroy the peptides as well.

Since the colors are not unique and the price is too high, AND, I don’t buy the hype, this is one brand I can easily pass on.

  • Luxurious is lovely, and I do like the bottle design, but the price is a little high (and I’m not really convinced that peptides, etc, are doing much for me in my nail polish).

As usual I am drawn to anything sky blue!!!! Love Above It!!!!! Every time I a open a post with nail polish swatches I do it with bated breath wondering if I am going to end up desparate for the colors!!! LOL! Been doing good lately at not jumping right on the websites!

  • None of the colours are really screaming ‘must-have’ to me, but they’re all nice enough. Very interesting how they protects against UV rays. I’ve never heard of any polish before with that claim.

  • If they really are solvent resistant, I would definitely add them to my stash. I work with my hands in a lot of chemicals that destroy even my best quality polishes. They seem a big pricey but I think I might pick one up to see if they can stand up to my work conditions!
