Jessica Gelato Mio Collection for Summer 2012 Swatches & Review
Jessica Gelato Mio is a collection of six Italian ice cream inspired hues. This collection invokes the beach, dripping sweet Italian ice cream, and endless long hot summer nights with a man named Henry Cavill.
Wait, maybe that’s just me.
Incidentally I feel that Henry should be the one to play Christian Grey in the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey movie. Now I admit, I could only get through little more than half the first book because the writing was so horrendous (if I ever hear the term “inner goddess” again I will kill myself) but think he’s perfect.
I digress. Back to nail polish.
These six new shades are all pastel cremes, but don’t write them off as chalky boring pastels. Some of these shades are pretty unique, and nearly all covered in just two coats.
Banana Peel
Banana Peel is a warm yellow creme. You know how yellows go, always streaky. This one was also streaky and did require three coats, but not too shabby of a color. A yellow I can actually wear.
Surfer Boyz ‘ Berry
Surfer Boyz ‘n Berry is a medium blue/green creme. Not quite a sky blue, not quite a mint. Really pretty shade for summer. This was less streaky than Banana Peel and just two coats.
Strawberry Shake It
Strawberry Shake It is a pale pink creme. This one was a little streaky like Banana Peel and I used three coats.
Barely Blueberry
Barely Blueberry is a pale sky blue creme. This is a fairly sheer shade at first but builds up nicely to a really pale white-ish blue. I used three coats for this.
Lime Cooler
Lime Cooler is a bright lime green creme. This one is superb! I’m not sure I have another green creme quite this color. The formula was thick but even and opaque in two coats. Love it, favorite one.
Tangerine Dreamz
Tangerine Dreamz is a tangerine creme. Another really pretty shade, the perfect tangerine shade. This was un-streaky as well, and just two coats.
Overall: I was pleasantly surprised with a few of these colors which turned out to be really nice. They aren’t chalky pastels, they do somehow look more “gelato-esque” to me. Or maybe that’s just good marketing. 
The must haves for me are Banana Peel, Lime Cooler, and Tangerine Dreamz. I also really liked Barely Blueberry and Surfer Boyz ‘n Berry. The only one I didn’t like that much was Strawberry Shake It because it’s the least unique I think.

Do you know what drug stores sell this brand? I couldn’t find any information on their website – these colors are beautiful!

These are all so pretty! I love Lime Cooler and Tangerine Dreamz – those seems the most unique. Love the color of Banana Peel also– it doesn’t seem like a yellow you see very often in the nail polish world.

I love all the names, great marketing too as these could have easily gone a more spring/easter route. my favorite is Tangerine Dreamz and Lime Cooler. It’s just too bad Jessica isn’t really found over here on the east coast

I want Ryan Reynolds to play Christian Grey. How are they going to make that book a movie anyway?? It would need it’s own rating…. And yes, the writing is terrible (oh my!). These colors look delicious, lol

LOVE these colors, but the formula does seem a bit unfortunate. Hoping for some OPI or Zoya dupes of these come next spring though

VV, do you ever have trouble with application of Jessica polishes? I bought three from their website and they all had this gloppy, gluey, thick consistency and I had a rough time with them. I wound up keeping one and giving the other two away. I kept the one because I love the color but am not sure I’ll attempt to use it again!
Question: Is it even possible to make an opaque-in-one-coat pale creme polish?
I always used to wear dark polishes and now that I’m getting into the lighter end of the spectrum I’m NOT happy with the sheerness and, more often than not, streakiness of polishes in pale colours.

They kind of remind me slightly of some of the colors of the Zoya Beach & Surf collection, but these seem more pastel where as the Zoya’s seem more bright. Not exact dupes but similar I think! They’re pretty though and like the other ladies have said, I haven’t seen them in any my local stores here in Florida. =/
I do see Jessica at Winners very occasionally, but you can’t count on finding anything specific colour-wise there. Just FYI for my Canadian peeps.
