Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum Review

Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum is a multi-purpose, hydrating, anti-aging serum that is suited for all skin types.

This is a great serum to wear underneath a BB Cream or foundation. It’s hydrating, helps blur fine lines and pores, and is water resistant.

Hourglass Primer Serum 2

Hourglass Primer Serum Swatch

This primer comes in a pump-style glass container. Very nice and sleek feeling.

The product comes out clear and is thickish in texture. Thick yet slippery, like most primers are. It does have a slight natural scent, but nothing very strong.

It feels a little different than any other primer I have used because this is a serum/primer rather than more of just a gel or cream texture. So it’s liquid-y, yet still does a great job of blurring out pores and other areas you want softened.

In terms of a primer it worked really great. I used it under a foundation and it made application smoother and easier, and definitely made my skin look more flawless than with just the foundation. I had no break-outs or oily feeling on my skin with it. It felt lighter to me than some primers I’ve used in the past halfway through the day.

Overall: Now I don’t look any younger or like my fine lines are being repaired, but it does feel nice and moisturizing on my skin, and most certainly helps my skin look much better. This primer/serum does not come cheap though, this is something to definitely splurge on if given the chance!

Availability: Hourglass, Sephora.

Pricing: $65.00 for 1.0 oz.

I have only very recently acquired my first Hourglass piece Visionaire duo in Dune) and so far it’s looking pretty good! I did also want to try a smaller bottle of the primer, but it was out of stock on the one online store I could get Hourglass from so I didn’t. This sounds like a great multi-tasker though! I’m sure I’ll want to try more Hourglass soon!

A lot of primers seem to be pretty expensive… right now I’m using the Korres Pomegranate Mattifying Primer and like it a lot, so I don’t feel tempted to switch.

I really like the Korres mattifying primer it’s effective and makes foundation look better. I have tried the Hourglass serum and it’s an oily mess on my skin, I don’t know how long you would have to wait for it to soak in

Many of those “essential” oils are irritating for skin and the antioxidants that this does include will not remain stable unless this bottle is kept in a dark place. There are way better serums on the market.

    • May 30, 2012

Exactly. I wouldn’t be able to use this due to the essential oils, which would severely irritate my skin.

I got a mini sample of this from Sephora, and I’m loving it! Not sure that I would pay that much for the full size though :(

Before I got to the end of the post, I figured it was going to be pricey with all those essential oils in it. Those don’t come keep if distilled properly.

Depending on how long a bottle lasted, it could well be worth it for the anti-aging properties as well.

Are the only ingredients in this product the onrs you listed? Or are there additional ones? As a wholesale buyer of essential oils & carrier oils for approximately 20 uears, I cannot believe for a second that all those oils of both types are in this product. It’s not even logical. In addition, even if they were – HA! – their concentration would be at such a minimal level that they’d be utterly useless. I doubt very much that there is even the equivalant of 1 drop of each essential oil in this product. And CLOVE oil in a primer?? LOL Think about what clove oil does as an anaesthetic for a tooth ache….lemon & orange peel oils?? Think about how a person’s skin would feel after smearing a raw peel of lemon & orange on their face & not washing it off.

This product is also completely clear & colorless. Which tells me that this stuff has a whole lot of nothing mixed into a base of silicone oils. With all those essential oils & carrier oils they claim to have put in this, it’s color would most definitely have at least a somewhat yellowish tone to it. I’m not seeing this on your skin or in the bottle. So the only possible anti aging property this product might have would be similar to wrapping somebody’s face in plastic wrap.

I wouldn’t trust this company as far as I could send them to the moon using a slingshot made out of my bra strap. They really insult women’s intelligence with bogus ingredients lists & rubbish claims like this. Utterly laughable LOL Thanks for the post. This has given me a heads up as to yet another company for me to blacklist.
