Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream SPF 35 Review

Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream is a newish BB Cream that is offered in five shades: Fair, Light, Light/Medium, Medium and Dark.
This baby does five things to help beautify your skin. It primes, so you can wear it alone or under a foundation. The tinted formula also perfects, making your skin smooth and even by filing in pores and blurring fine lines. It hydrates with moisture. It protects against UVA/UVB rays with an SPF of 35 (yay 35!!). And finally, it helps control oil without leaving a chalky or matte finish.
This BB Cream is also infused with anti-aging peptides, which supposedly help decrease fine lines over time.

It comes in a 1.0 oz plastic tub with a “squeeze hole” at the tip. It’s easy to get the product out and you don’t wind up getting too much this way.
You only need a pea sized amount for your whole face. And there is no scent!

Light
I tried this out in the shade Light, which is the second lightest one. It worked out nicely with my skin tone because of the yellow (not pink) undertones it has.
The formula feels thick but not too thick. It’s creamy and easy to blend into your skin. It sinks in easily, so you don’t have to work a whole lot to get it blended.
I wore it for a week over my usual moisturizer with SPF. As mentioned in other posts, while this has SPF, which is great, you don’t really use enough to be completely protected. So I always still use a moisturizer with SPF under any and all makeup I wear.
It did a nice job of helping disguise my pores, which is THE number one thing I look for in a BB Cream. If it doesn’t do that, then I’ll just use a primer that does. But it did, so I was pleased. I never had any issues with it settling into any fine lines either. The texture doesn’t feel matte or dewy. It feels moisturizing, but isn’t shiny. It lasted on me an entire work day with only one afternoon touch up on my nose/chin area.
The one caveat, which really isn’t a normal caveat is that using it on dry, flaky skin isn’t so hot. I have been using Renova which is causing some dry patches on my face and when I tried applying on those areas, it tended to ball up. But I have had that happen with some other products also, so again, not really a negative with this product necessarily.
Availability: Smashbox, Beauty.com, Sephora.
Pricing: $39.00
Have you tried Camera Ready yet? Do you like BB Creams?

I tried light and I thought it was a bit dark, but the finish itself was nice
It’s cool to see that you like it!

$39 seems a little pricey to me, but I think I’m cheap! I do like that it is a primer.
Awesome review! You reminded me that I have a sample of this that I hadn’t used yet. First impressions, I like it for a good skin day. I love the finish of it. My only beef with it is the price. $39 seems like a little much to me!

I’ve tried two BB creams so far (Erborian which is a Korean brand and Dior Hydra Life), and I do like Hydra Life! It is moisturizing enough for me to skip my day cream, evens my skin tone out, and has some kind of coverage which I’m just fine with! Also, the texture is different from traditional BB creams. I’m not a fan of the typical thick texture, so the very very light and liquid texture of Hydra Life is just fine by me!

I’ve never used a BB cream before. I bought Smashbox for the first time @ Ulta & they gave me a free sample of this but in medium. I am very light skinned so it does not work for me but I like how it felt. I don’t know that I’d spend $39 when I’m not even sure what it is…

Thanks for the review! I’ve been eyeing this stuff, but $39 is a lot for something you don’t know much about.

I took the plunge as soon as this was announced and got it in light. Having used a BB Cream in Japan that was a bit too yellow toned for my skin, this one has just the right amount of yellow. I have no problems using this by itself if my skin is in good condition, but as you said it can be hard to use when you have dry patches. I alternate between this and a tinted moisturizer, but I prefer this because of the pore coverage!
Will you show us a picture of you with it on? Thanks!
I got it in light a couple of weeks ago and tried it twice using different blending techniques both time (sponge once, brush another). Hated it. It seemed to sit on my skin and/or find its way into my pores (accentuating them rather than disguising them) or into my wrinkles. Not cool either way! I’m a big fan of the Dr. Jart+ with SPF 45 which comes in only one color and blends in beautifully. Same price as the Smashbox but you are getting more product (1 oz with Smash, 1.4 oz with the good Dr.) and a higher SPF.

for usd39, i can buy about 4 tubes of bb cream from korean brands like skin food, missha, thefaceshop, etude house etc.. :S
then again, these brands are more accessible to me since i live in asia. i don’t even wanna imagine how much of a mark up there’ll be for this smashbox bb cream in my local sephora..

I have tried this in both light-medium and medium. I am approximately NC30 in MAC and the medium was WAY too dark, ut may work in the height of summer with a tan. The light-medium is still a little too dark/bronzey for my non-tanned skin, but it’s far better than medium. As far as coverage, it’s pretty good and it lasts. I do get breakthrough oil, but I have an extremely oily T zone, normal cheeks. I have to top it with powder. I think I like it best when topped with Estee Lauder double wear powder as my shade (tawny) is yellower. That balances out the orange. What sells me on this bb cream is how fabulous my skin looks when using it. It really evens out my complexion and I can see the difference after removal. It just seems “good” for my skin.
Apparently this is the only brand that has shades for the dark brown ladies!

For $39. and the fact that they’re no longer cruelty-free, I’ll spend my $$ on a truly cruelty-free item. Sad.
Kelly, I’m so glad that you reviewed this product! I’ve been very curious about it. Literally every single time I’ve browsed the Sephora store, I’ve picked it up and played with it, but walked out without it. Good to know that it’s a product that works. Now if I can only justify the price tag.

I’ve got a sample size coming to me in a Smashbox order. I love BB creams so it will be fun to see how this one compares to my others. Your review makes me glad it’s coming.

I definitely have been wanting to try a BB cream since I started hearing about them. This seems like it would be a good one. Hopefully I’ll be able to get it one of these days.
