Orly Cool Romance for Spring 2012 Swatches & Review

Orly Cool Romance Orly Cool Romance for Spring 2012 Swatches & Review

Orly Cool Romance is a new spring collection featuring six new shades.

Don’t expect mega color in your face with this collection. Think of the words soft, subtle, understated, feminine and pretty.

The formula with most of these was really good, but thin. Most are fairly sheer, so you will need three coats for complete coverage.

Orly Prelude To A Kiss Orly Cool Romance for Spring 2012 Swatches & Review
Prelude To A Kiss

Prelude To A Kiss is a pink/peach creme. This polish was one of the thicker ones, yet a little uneven. I did manage to get it decent with just two coats.

Orly Youre Blushing Orly Cool Romance for Spring 2012 Swatches & Review
You’re Blushing

You’re Blushing is a sort of hard to describe color. It’s a pinkish grey taupe creme. Very sheer but after three coats really opaque and nice.

Orly Jealous Much Orly Cool Romance for Spring 2012 Swatches & Review
Jealous, Much?

Jealous, Much? is a sheer milky mint green. It does build up after three coats but it’s still not completely even all all over. But it is a nice contrast to the super pigmented mint green cremes out there. This is a softer look.

Orly Faint Of Heart Orly Cool Romance for Spring 2012 Swatches & Review
Faint Of Heart

Faint Of Heart is a medium/deep taupe grey. This creamy lacquer has just a hint of darker grey shimmer in it. Actually it’s not really shimmer it looks like speckles. Reminds me of concrete or something and I really like it. Unusual. This was three coats.

Orly Artificial Sweetener Orly Cool Romance for Spring 2012 Swatches & Review
Artificial Sweetener

Artificial Sweetener is a warm pink with gold shimmer. This one was more pigmented and creamy. I only needed two coats. Pretty spring shade!

Orly Steel Your Heart Orly Cool Romance for Spring 2012 Swatches & Review
Steel Your Heart

Steel Your Heart is a dark steel grey metallic. Kind of an unexpected color for this collection I think, but a nice addition. Not much issue with streaking and opaque in two coats.

Overall: A nice pretty collection, but perhaps nothing that unique to hard-core nail lacquer collectors. My favorites were You’re Blushing and Faint Of Heart.

Availability: Beauty.com, Ulta, drugstores.

Pricing: $8.50.

Is Cool Romance a collection you like or do you prefer bolder colors?

  • Thank you for these swatches! You’ve saved my wallet! The collection idea, and their appearance overall as a collection in bottle, had me interested in these. However after seeing them on the nail, they’re both not unique enough and just don’t “do it for me”. I’ll wait and save the money for the upcoming collections I’m already sold on. :)

Oh my goodness! I NEED Prelude to a kiss and Faint of heart! They’re soo beautiful and unique!

Funny, I JUST bought a Deborah Lippmann polish also called Prelude to a kiss, but they’re completely different.

  • As nice as these colours are, I don’t think I could pull any of them off well. Nothing here makes my heart flutter…but that’s okay for my wallet! :D

  • I prefer bolder colors, but I do like Artificial Sweetened and Jealous Much! I’m not the biggest fan of pink, but anything with gold shimmer calls my name hehe

I like Faint of Heart and Steel Your Heart. Sucker for greys. : ) But not that interested in the other colors. I like Artificial Sweetner, but it might look to coral on me.

    Great swatches!! Thanks!!

    Loving Artificial Sweetener.

  • I think the two taupe-y ones are after my heart! I love speckled polishes, but I wanted the speckles to be a bit more obvious. There’s so few speckled polishes at the minute I mixed my own in the end to feel a bit more satisfied.

I also like the minty one, but it’s not quite what I am looking for. I have yet to find a dusty mint creme, sort of like OPI’s Stranger Tides, only minty.

I feel like I’m writing a wishlist now.. Haha!
