Deborah Lippmann Mermaid’s Dream Swatches & Review

Deborah Lippmann Mermaid s Dream

Deborah Lippmann Mermaid’s Dream is a nail lacquer YOU NEED.

The end.

Kidding.

But in all honesty, I have not seen anything like it before, and it’s everything I had been hoping it would be.

Mermaid’s Dream

Mermaid’s Dream is a pale seafoam green glitter. It’s jam packed with micro green and gold glitter as well as larger hexagonal blue glitter pieces. You can see it in all it’s macro glory in my Weekly Macro here.

Unlike some of the chunkier glitters by Lippmann, this one is much easier to work with. The glitter pieces pretty much stay where you initially place them and don’t move around with a second coat. I was really surprised I only needed two coats!

It does have a slight chunky texture to it, but a coat or two of a thick quick dry top coat will help with that.

It’s a really unique shade, I can’t think of any others I have that are close to it. I love anything and everything mermaid-esque, and this baby takes the cake. Worth every penny!

Availability: Nordstrom, Beauty.com, Zappos, Lippmann

Pricing: $18.00.

Have you bitten the bullet and bought this one yet?

I absolutely love it!! And I agree, you NEED it, period.
It’s that kind of polish that glows from inside with inner light, but it’s elegant and delicate at the same time. Maybe is that green base, I don’t know, it looks like a mermaid’s tail!
    Must have for polish lovers!!!

Oh, wow, I want this sooooo much, I just can’t afford it. *sighs and drools over the macro*

It’s not really my thing, but I will say kudos to DL for coming out with something different for a change. I tend to knock her for charging $18 for polish that looks like the cleanup from a spill in the craft aisle, but this is unique and quite pretty.

Two days in a row with pretty green polishes. I’m in Heaven! It’s really fun to look at, but like Maribeth, the texture would be a bit of a turnoff for me.

Wow, this really is unique! I think it’s a little cool toned for my skin, but it looks great on you!

I’m finding the texture to be a bit off-putting also. Mermaids though!

I really want to like this polish but the texture makes me cringe! I know a top coat would smooth it out, but I think the texture is a deal-breaker.

The texture kind of looks like wet sand, which goes perfectly with the whole mermaid theme, but I think it would drive me crazy. I like smooth nails.
    still pretty though!

Hmm, the base sort of reminds me of LA Splash’s Golden Seahorse, which I have and love, but this one has blue glitter and looks…lumpier. It’s so pretty in the bottle, and such a ME kind of color, but I am disappointed in how the texture looks on the nail.

Removing this polish is probably quite a challenge, but the color is delicious! Think I need this one now!

Wearing it today and I love it…I don’t like the bumpy texture, but the glitter is so cool – all different sizes and colors that change in the light. Very mermaid-esque!

I bought this when it first came out and right now it is on my toes – I smile whenever I look down at it. Worth every penny. And if you just tell yourself, “That’s how a mermaid’s scales would feel” you get over the texture. I’ve removed it and it is really not bad compared to the other Lippmann glitters.

I love this DL polish too. The formula on it reminds me a bit of the China Glaze Prismatics. They are not as chunky as some but do have grit to them as does this one from DL. I did need to use a ton of top coat. Mermaid is one of those that eats toppers.

I have this polish and it DOES eat top coat like crazy. What I have had luck with on it and others that do the same thing is place the color on the nail to the thickness you want to wear. Let it dry. Then apply 1-2 coats of Gelous which you can buy at Sally’s. They have 4 kinds of product in polish bottles. You want the jell covering (usually the 3rd one in the line up counting from the base coat at the far left). Then I have used over Gelous, Seche Vite topper. I have not had any shrinkage of the polish color with SV if I have the Gelous topper on first.

When I first saw the promo images I just could not wait to get my hands on this. So I tried to make my own little version. I ended up using Color Club Under the Mistletoe with Revlon Blue Mosaic layered over. Of course not the exact look but it was pretty similar and has the same effect. It killed the lemming for me until I was able to get my hands on the DL.

I agree it’s very unique and I usually love, love, love greens … but this time I’m just not that crazy about it. I think it must be the chunky texture of it. It’s just not doing it for me. :(
