Too Faced Summer 2012 Collection Swatches & Review

Today marks the official first day of spring. And here I am talking about summer already. Tsk, tsk. ;)

Too Faced has a new summer collection out featuring a new Summer Eye Summertime Sexy Shadow Collection, Royal Oil Coconut Oil Body Bronzer, Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzing Powder, Primed, Poreless & Pure Oil-Free Skin Smoothing Face Primer for Sensitive Skin and Better Than False Lashes Nylon Lash Extension Activating Mascara Base & Top Coat and Nylon Lash Fibers (a new three-step mascara).

Sugar Sand, Peach Fuzz, Sunbeam

The Summer Eye Palette features nine eyeshadow shades in various finishes from glittery to shimmery to metallic.

Sugar Sand is an icy cotton candy pink metallic.

Peach Fuzz is a pale peach with gold glitter.

Sunbeam is a pale yellow/gold with yellow glitter.

The two glittery shadows are very light and not that noticeable, other than the glittery part.

Plumeria, Coral Crush, Mermaid, Cocoa Beach, Chocolate Sun, Toasted Coconut

Plumeria is a warm medium pink.

Coral Crush is a medium orange/coral with small gold glitter pieces.

Mermaid is a deep sea-green.

Cocoa Beach is an opaque warm reddish/brown with gold glitter.

Chocolate Sun is a deep chocolate brown with gold glitter.

Toasted Coconut is a medium warm brown with a nice sheen.

All of these were really nicely pigmented and felt soft. I was really surprised with Cocoa Beach and Chocolate Sun in particular. Gorgeous colors.

Royal Oil Coconut Oil Body Moisturizer and Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzing Powder

Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzing Powder

Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzing Powder

Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzing Powder, Royal Oil Coconut Oil Body Moisturizer

Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzing Powder is a medium matte shade.  Not too dark, not too light, just right in the middle. I think this would work very well for fair skinned folks. Smells of cocoa powder, which is an added bonus!

Royal Oil Coconut Oil Body Moisturizer is a deep coppery/gold shimmery color. It’s infused with antioxidants, mangosteen and coconut oil.  The smell is INSTANT summer. The scent immediately takes me back to 1988, tanning on my deck in Berkeley, one of the few days a year we weren’t socked in with fog. Thank god I didn’t tan much! I think this shade is too dark for fair skinned ladies like myself, but it would suit those with darker skin tones very nicely. I might just sniff it from time to time when it’s raining out. :)

Primed Poreless & Pure Oil-Free Skin Smoothing Face Primer For Sensitive Skin

Primed Poreless Pure is an oil-free face primer for sensitive skin. I have been using it this past week and really like it so far! Does a great job of smoothing out pores and fine lines. Doesn’t feel oily or greasy on my face. It keeps oil at bay for the entire day as well. Yesterday I was wearing it under a Chanel foundation and at 2:00 I went to touch up my forehead/nose/chin but didn’t even need to.

The one thing I did notice that wasn’t so great is I wore it over a skin brightener & my moisturizer with SPF, and if I rubbed it too hard or too much, it would ball up a little bit. No bueno.

Better Than False Lashes Nylon Lash Extension System

The Better Than False Lashes Nylon Lash Extension System is a three-part system. It consists of two mascaras.

First apply the activating base & top coat mascara (gold tube).

Second apply the nylon fibers (white tube) which adds bulk and length to your lashes.

Finally use the gold tube again to apply a top coat which melts and stretches the fibers into long lashes .

Step 1

Step 2

Step 3

I’ll be honest here. Putting fibers like that near my eye is one of my worst nightmares. This is mainly because I ALWAYS seem to get stuff in my eyes. Mostly cat hair. I was a bit reluctant to use this. But I did.

In the end I didn’t really see the long thick luxurious lashes I expected. They looked like they do with any mascara, basically, except maybe not as black because the mascara here isn’t as thick and black as ones I normally use. Also I did feel fibers falling off my lashes within an hour or so. Not sure if it’s because I didn’t fully coat them with step 3, or what. But all in all it’s not my favorite mascara system, and I would rather just have one step rather than three.

Availability: Sephora, Too Faced and Ulta (see below for exclusives).

Pricing: Summer Eye Palette ($36, Sephora, Too Faced and Ulta), Royal Oil ($35, Sephora, Too Faced and Ulta), Chocolate Soleil ($29 and exclusive to Sephora until July), Better Than False Lashes ($35 and exclusive to Sephora until July), Primer Poreless Pure Primer ($30, Sephora, Too Faced and Ulta).

What do you think of the new summer collection? Anything here you would like to try out?

I like how inside the palette, the design looks like a swimming pool – that’s perfect for summer. (And speaking of summer, it seems like here in Canada, we went straight from winter to summer. I’m not complaining! YAY! :D)

As for the fibers-and-mascara experiment…You are so brave, Kelly! When I saw that white fibrous wand, it scared me. I wouldn’t put that near my eyes for fear that the fibers would go onto my eyes. But I’m grateful that you had to guts to show us. Honestly, your lashes looked great before all that, and there wasn’t much difference in the after shot, so I think a lot of people would probably pass on that.

The shadow swatches are so pretty, usually I find the darker shades in Too Faced palettes a little too dark for my taste but these look great.

I agree with Swatch and Learn, those fibers are scary! And three steps? Seriously, way too much work for mascara application. Usually, in the morning when I’m getting ready, mascara is one of my last steps and I’m too rushed to deal with a multi-step application.

Oh how I understand your problem with putting stuff in your eyes. I’ve got the same problem with cat hair.

I like this except for the scary fiber brush. I wear contacts and getting hair/dust/fibers in my eye is excruciatingly painful.

I like the palette swatches but for the mascara I don’t think I would put the fibers on.. They look kinda scary to be honest and when I first looked at the pictures of it my first thought was what the heck is that fuzzy thing not what I thought of when it said fibers I guess.

After your post I want to try pretty much everything from this collection! I have too many similar colors when it comes to the 3 lightest shades of the palette, but the rest 6 are just so gorgeous! I’ve never used any tanning oil or anything, but this one looks so gorgeous I’m wondering if it’ll make a good beach companion!

I’m really excited about the eyeshadows. I love Too Faced’s palettes.

That mascara scares me! It’s always a horrible experience getting small, nearly invisible little fibers caught in my eyelashes. Why would I ever intentionally put them there?!

I love the palette, but that mascara looks like a giant fail. A furry wand? No thank you! The results weren’t that great either.

I can’t wait to buy the summer eye palette! Love the colors, especially coral crush.

I like the shadow colors. I’d pass on the bronzer (I don’t use bronzer much and this one is matte, which is scarier to me) and although the oil looks interesting, it also looks too dark and smells like coconut (blech). Primer I’d probably try, but am in no big rush to, and the mascara looks like a HELL to the NO for me! I thought the “fiber” wand had molded or something!

  • March 20, 2012

The eye palette is pretty, but I think I flinched when I saw the mascara-fibre thing. I find I have a strong disinclination to put thin hair-like fibres near my eye. No thanks.

That palette is really pretty but I’ll pass on anything else. I’m too lazy to use primer and rarely use bronzer and that mascara? The lazy problem alone would stop me from using it but the fibers make it a definite no.

Wow I think this is the first collection I’ve ever seen from any makeup collection where I literally want every piece! I have sensitive skin which can be oily AND dry at the same time (lucky me! haha) so it’s frustrating having to deal with all those issues so the primer sounds perfect :)

  • March 21, 2012

I really like the colors of the shadows. I have used a Too Faced product since their Bunny Balm first released many moons again. Need to get back into it. Thanks for the swatches!

The primer interests me. I’m still look for something to control shine. The pilling concerns me though, maybe I’ll get a chance to sample it first and see how it does in that area

I have a fiber wand from another brand. It does a good job. I just don’t use it very often. I also don’t like things flying in my eyes. I always seem to get something in them. I’ll pass on this whole collection. The shadows are lovely but I’m sure I have many others like them.

I normally love your reviews – but that mascara system literally rocks my lashes out every day. As a Sephora employee/mua who knows, take this tip from me! You need to really coat your lashes with the first layer, then really/mostly apply the fibers to the tips of lashes (where you need length), then coat again. The photo looks like you applied it on your lashes and not really the tips. Sometimes I repeat the steps over and over again. Try it again…I promise it will be different and better!

I NEED that bronzer. I’ve been looking everywhere for a matte bronzer that isn’t too dark for my super pale skin! It looks pretty large.

The eye shadows are so pretty and the color payoff looks so good. I may just have to use my Sephora coupon for this palette. And just what is it with cat hair? I always get it in my eyes; usually in the afternoons when it’s been hours since I’ve been around my cat.

I love the palette. I have the Romantic one, and I’ll definitely be getting this Summer one soonish. I’m also interested in trying the primer, since I like their Shadow Insurance so much.

Wow, the fibers look like cotton lashes. I wonder if it will ball up on some people’s lashes over time. They have a new Milk Chocolate bronzer that I want to try.
