Stila Smudge Crayons for Spring 2012 Swatches & Review

New from Stila this spring are Smudge Crayons.
These crayons come in eight shades and are a three-in-one product. They’re a primer, shadow and liner all wrapped into one neat little pencil. Or crayon. Semantics.
They are also waterproof, crease resistant, creamy, shimmery and contain Vitamin E and Aloe. So they say.
Hidden in the end of the crayon is a small sharpener, which is handy.

Antique is a light champagne/nude with pale glitter bits. This is a nice enough neutral shade and had pretty good pigmentation.
Pink Violet is a pink violet. Kidding. It’s a warm toned violet with pink sparkles.I had some issues getting this one even in my swatch. It’s a little patchy, but very pretty color.
Umber is a deep rusted brown shade with reddish sparkles. I love this color it’s so rich and very pigmented with no patchiness.
I found that these are pretty soft, almost to a fault. The tip off one of them broke off when I pressed too hard. I also found that they aren’t that easy to blend as they tend to want to stay where you place them. I tried them with and without a primer underneath. They are easier to blend without a primer underneath and what’s odd is I got the same amount of wear-time without creasing both ways. I got about 4 hours wear out of them without any signs of creasing when wearing a primer or not. That’s not a great record, so I would probably use these as a liner more than an all-over shadow.
Availability: Stila’s site or Sephora.
Pricing: $22.00.

I got really excited when I saw the pictures, but then I read the part about the tip breaking off. For $22, I’ll pass on these.

I have to agree with Chris. I’ll be passing on these, although the brown one does look amazingly pigmented.

They are really pretty. I’ll pass on them. I know I have enough makeup to last several lifetimes.
The colors are ADORABLE but for something that will break on me and creases in 4 hours (and cost 22 bucks a pop)? Thanks but no thanks!

Umber is very pretty, but four hours? I will pass on these. Thanks for testing them out!

If I liked the price I’d go for Antique.
I wish Pink Violet was a lip color!

Umber is really pretty. But they seem a bit pricey for those of us on a strict budget. Would definitely buy otherwise; it would be a perfect liner color for me.
I’m so glad you reviewed these! My Sephora store got them and I’ve been dying to try them out. There’s a blue that’s so pigmented it’s amazing – and usually blue cream shadows are pretty tough to get good color from.

Sorry to double comment, but I thought I’d mention that Sephora Collection makes eyeshadow pencils that have *amazing* long-term wear. I don’t know for sure if SC is cruelty-free, though.

Looks like I will be getting the Pearlglides!
If that is all true what they say, that they are amazing but I don’t like the colors
