Question of the Week

As I write this, I am fighting off the urge to crawl under my desk, lay my jacket over me, and sleep for the rest of the work day next to my quietly humming space heater. I just ate some delicious sausage chili for lunch, hence the STRONG nap-time urge.
Oh and happy Friday.;)
What are you reading now or have read recently that is good?
Currently I’m reading Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain. Love it so far!
Have a great day!
-Kelly

I am reading Dark World by Zak Bagans.
Becky´s last post…My First Lynderella
I just finished reading The 19th Wife (really liked it) and now am on to the new Brian Greene follow up to the Elegant Universe. I forget what it’s called but it’s nerdy and about physics so I’m excited!
Ariel´s last post…Hourly Comic 2012
I am reading Timeline by Michael Crichton. It’s so hard to put down!
I’m readying The City and the City by China Mieville. I love all of his books! He usually writes urban sci-fantasy but this book is a detective novel, it’s very different than his Bas-Lag books.
Scienter´s last post…Quick Side Dish: Zucchini with Golden Raisins and Pine Nuts
I’m reading three books at once as is typical of me. The third book of the Hunger Games trilogy, then Protected Men by Robert Merle (which I’ve read dozens of times I think) and collected works of James Joyce.
Iris´s last post…Still wintery with China Glaze Blue Year’s Eve
I just finished Equal Rites by Terry Pratchett. Really, anything by him is awesome, but I think I’m a bit Discworld-ed out for now. I have a couple books I could read next, but nothing is really grabbing me.
I just finished “The Heroin Diaries,” which was awesome and now I’m reading “House of Versace.” So far, so good!
MightyLambchop´s last post…Hell yeah, I want cheezy poofs!
Hi MightyLambchop,
I LOVED The Heroin Diaries I nearly started re-reading it the second I finished it. Have you read Permanent Midnight? It’s also incredibly good. House of Versace is on my list!
“The Orchid Thief” by Susan Orlean.
Chris´s last post…We Need Your Help…
We Say No by Eduardo Galeano, bought it Ike 9 years ago and I finally started reading it!
Haruki Murakami’s What I Talk About When I Talk About Running.
He’s one of my favourite author’s and I recently felt like re-reading some of his stuff. As a long distance runner myself I find this such an inspirational book.
From a wholly different place… I absolutely loved The Night Circus as well.

MLV´s last post…It’s Teal Time
Currently reading “The Between Boyfriends Book” by Cindy Chupack (The writer for the ‘Sex and The City’ series on TV). Funny book so far. Definitely had a few good laughs.

I’m currently reading “The Help”. Was reading it to go see it at the cinema, but we got the times wrong lol! Is good so far.
I read Time Magazine, if magazines count. I love how opinionated the writers for Time are, and I love how deep they dig into their stories, and I love how it’s not a magazine about glamour or fashion. Though we all love magazines about “glossy” things, sometimes what we really need is substance.
Girlie Blogger´s last post…Eyeshadow Color for Dark Brown Eyes? Try Olive.
I’m so glad that you left this comment because I feel the same way. Even though it’s fun to browse through fashion and beauty magazines, I get the most excited when I read things that dig deeper and that are written by a whip-smart writer.

Red Mist by Patricia Cornwell…. I have read them all, might as well read this one too…. And I loooove The Heroin Diaries.
I just got done with “The Family” by Ed Sanders; it was first published in the ’70s, and it was updated in 2002. I’ve read several books about Charles Manson and the Mason family (including “Helter Skelter” by Vince Bugliosa (he prosecuted the defendants in the Tate/LaBianca murder trials). This one is the best, by far!
I’m a true crime fiend, have been since I was a preteen. I like some crime dramas and mysteries, especially Michael Connelly, but to me, the truth is ALWAYS stranger (thus more interesting) than fiction.
I get about 10 magazines in the mail each month; I read every mag I can get my hands on! “Lucky’” is my favorite, because they have great fashion and makeup, without any celebrity crap, self-help or “how to get a man” articles; HATE those features. “Lucky” used to have lots of reality-based options (items that don’t cost an arm and a leg) in their spreads; they have less and less these days, though. The magazine is going downhill; it used to be so much better!
My mom and I finished The Hunger Games and loved it! Can’t wait for the movie. I also just finished Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, and it was really touching and well written.

I’m reading 2 books at once, myself. Halfway into the 2nd book in the Song of Fire and Ice series (can’t seem to read faster as I keep getting sidetracked with getting upset over how the plot is progressing and putting the book down for a while after in a boycott that will never last long as I *need* to know what happens next) and Mindy Kaling’s Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me (And Other Concerns). Great writing on the latter, very entertaining with a quiet sort of wisdom. Easily comparable to Tina Fey’s Bossypants.

I just read all three Hunger Games books- AMAZING! Couldn’t put them down. I know they’re ‘Young Adult’ but they are easy reads and so fascinating. I can’t wait for the movie in March
I’m reading Catch Me the latest in the DD Warren series by Lisa Gardner. Good stuff!
I’m reading 1q84 by Haruki Murakami… I ‘m not sure about it yet. I read another of his books before and it was “ok”.
Mara´s last post…a-england Princess Tears
I’m reading the Tales of the City series. I loveeeeee them.
In case you didn’t know, they are a series of books (originally published as a weekly in a newspaper), written in the 80s that take place in SF in the 70s. OBS made a mini series out of the first 2 books, and recently it was made into a stage production. SOSOSOSOSO good. and, living in SF, it is just extra cool to hear about all these same places i go!
Energy sector legislation of Kazakhstan was fairly good.. Kidding
That was for work. Otherwise I’m reading A Pinch Of Love (also published as Simply From Scratch), a light funny novel of Alicia Bessette. Works perfect when I get tired of the former

I just finished The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo a few days ago and I quickly dove into the next one: The Girl Who Played with Fire. Book 1 dragged in the beginning, but was very thrilling once it picked up. Book 2 has already captured my attention and I’m only at 5% (according to my Kindle)… Might watch the movie this weekend!

I’m not reading anything right now, but this post is giving me some good ideas to put on my amazon wishlist for future reference.

Alyson´s last post…7 Deadly Sins of Beauty
I’m re-reading some current classical Stephen King: It. I find that I give drainage ditches wider berths than usual. After this book, I will read one on Wallis Simpson. I used to read several books at once but now it’s just easier for me to remember stuff if I read one at a time.
I hope I don’t become an outcast having no interest in The Hunger Games. :/
Kimberly´s last post…I Spy…Themed Keyboard Stickers & French Glitz Manicure Set
I LOVE that book! “It” and ‘The Shining” are my two favorite S. King novels; I couldn’t pick one over the other if I was paid to.
It’s funny, in the book the creature (It) says, “And what child doesn’t love a clown?” Has anybody ever met someone, child or adult, that actually likes clowns?
I’m re-reading The Millennium Trilogy, only because I’m going to see the movies (american version) and I love finding mistakes in movies taken from books. Even if I know for sure that there’s no movie better than its book (or, at least, matching up whit it). I know it’s weird, I’m quite strange
I’m willing to finish L.K.Hamilton’s Anita Blake series, ’cause here in Italy her books are hard to be found in English.
I’m currently reading Unfamiliar Fishes by Sarah Vowell.
I’ve been thinking of reading that. What do you think of it so far?
I’m reading 11/22/63. It’s really good but it’s taking me a long time to read. My next book will be the new Jodi Picoult. I’ve preordered it already.

I’m currently reading A Visit from the Goon Squad. So far so good, but postmodern writing doesn’t really come together and make a lot of sense till the end.
I have recently finished reading The Help and City of Thieves which I both adore!

horns by joe hill. his writing reminds me so much of stephen king, before he got so long-winded(unedited…). maybe cuz thats his dad.
i just saw an anthony bourdain display at my local bookshop, am tempted to try one of the mysteries.
Hi egglet,
I read his first one and really liked it. I’ll try this one also.
I’m on the thrid book in the Song of Ice and Fire saga by George RR Martin. It’s amazing.
I just finished The Hunger Games trilogy. Thought it was very good.

Hollywood Scandals – Gemma Halliday
Seven Exes are Eight Too Many – Heather Wardell
Test Pilot’s Daughter: Revenge – Steve Ward
Model Agent Sean Sweeney

Im almost finished with The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. it was really slow starting out, but it’s turned out to be an awesome book
I’m reading a lot of books for college right now, but the one I’ve been enjoying the most is HL Mencken’s Chrestomathy. I don’t agree with all of his criticisms, but I love his style.
Anthony Bourdain is definitely a worthy read
I love Anthony Bourdain. I watch his TV shows. I have Kitchen Confidential on my reading list. I’m going to start reading Diary of a Mad Fat Girl by Stephanie McAfee. My girlfriend works in a library and always brings me home books to read. It’s a Southern Fried novel, I think that’s what it said in a blurb. Hope it’s good.
I’m reading a thriller called Desert Places by Blake Crouch; it was free on my Kindle and it’s not half bad. I’ve actually found some enjoyable books that I never would have found out about if I weren’t subscribed to a page that tells the daily free books on Kindle. I really enjoyed Kitchen Confidential. My hubby was a chef for 8 years and it really gave a unique insight into what that world is really like.
Well, right now all I’ve been able to read is beauty blogs and a billion textbooks, last week I reread The Hunger Games to keep myself in tip-top shape. I also reread Nicole Richie’s two books. (The Truth About Diamonds and Priceless) They aren’t bad. I quite like them.

the judging eye: book one of the aspect-emperor series – r. scott bakker

previously i read his trilogy ‘the prince of nothing’… it’s fantasy, if you’re in for this kind of literature, i definitely recommend

I just finished reading When She Woke by Hillary Jordan. It’s a dystopian re-telling of The Scarlet Letter. It was fab, I read it in one day.
I’m currently reading Courageous by Randy Alcorn. Pretty good so far.
Love Anthony Bourdain, he’s such a smart mouth.

I’ve just started the 3rd book in the Song of Ice and Fire series that’s called A Storm of Swords. I’m hooked on these books! I finished the 2nd one in a weeks time. ^_^
Rie´s last post…Layering Experiment No. 7 – Sally Hansen Black Tie & Hard Candy Pixie
I’m reading The Weird Sisters by Eleanor Brown. Great book! Also reading Ace Frehley’s autobiography – really brings me back lol. And on my NOOK, I am again reading The Witching Hour by Anne Rice. I can’t wait for The Wolf Gift to come out on Tuesday!
I recently finished Haruki Murakami’s 1Q84; I really enjoyed it and admired the author’s very thoughtful, deliberate writing style, but found that it lagged a bit in the latter part of the novel. It could have been trimmed down by a couple hundred pages in order to maintain momentum.
I also read The Hunger Games trilogy, and am so glad I finally did! I could hardly put it down. Fantastic story, and can’t wait for the movie, which also looks promising. I’m loving that Woody Harrelson was cast to play Haymitch.
