Benefit Hello Flawless! Oxygen Wow Brightening Makeup Review & Swatches

Benefit Hello Flawless

Benefit Hello Flawless! Oxygen Wow Brightening Makeup is a new product out this spring.

This liquid foundation comes in nine shades and is oil-free, brightening and contains an SPF of 25 PA +++. PA refers to the reflection grade of the UVA filter. A three star rating is the highest you can get, so that’s good!

It also includes something called Oxygen Wow Hydrating Complex. This complex helps boost cellular respiration for a “plumping effect”, protects against environmental stresses and contains vitamins C and E which help prevent signs of aging. Since I seem to be aging 2 years every month, I am not going to complain! ;)

Benefit Hello Flawless 4

Benefit Hello Flawless Swatches
Petal, Beige, Amber

Petal is the second lightest shade but was a bit too dark for my skin unfortunately. I did test it out while at home (thankfully no one was here and no delivery people decided to stop by, haha) and here is what I found.

The foundation comes in a pump style, and is very liquid-y and runny. You don’t need much though, and it applies easily enough with fingers. It is build-able from a light coverage to a medium one.

It blends in easily and feels light and non-greasy on my face. I didn’t use it over a primer when I tried it. It doesn’t really hide my pores or fine lines as maybe a foundation or BB Cream with built-in primer might. I would use it over a primer next time to help “blur” the flaws in my skin a little better.

As far as the brightening effect I didn’t really notice it. It definitely doesn’t look matte and does have a slight dewy finish, which I don’t mind. I actually prefer to look more dewy as opposed to matte or dry since that definitely ages you!

I would like to try out the Ivory shade for sure since I think that one will match me better!

But…why would you use foundation that doesn’t cover anything? O.o I don’t get it. I would never pay so much for a product that still requires some sort of primer underneath and coverup on top. This feels pointless to me. BUT thank you for a very well-written review!

      Hi Pryanka,

I didn’t say it didn’t cover anything. I said it didn’t blur fine lines and my pores as much as some others do. :)

Hey Kelly, so THIS is the too-dark foundation you were wearing around the house last Friday lol. My current go-to is Bourjois Healthy Mix in 53 Light Beige, and from your description the two sound similar enough (dewy finish, light-to-medium coverage, blendable with fingers). Healthy Mix doesn’t have an SPF though, so in summer when no picture will be taken, Hello Flawless might be a great alternative. I’m just hoping the shades won’t turn out too pink for me, but sadly MOST foundations on the market are…

Just got this over the weekend. I like it a lot, but yes primer is a must. This sound wierd, but there is a nasty bitter flavor to this foundation that migrated to my lips.

My current go to foundation is Dermablend Smooth Indulgence in soft beige. I need enough coverage to smooth out my many flaws:-)

I’m going to swatch this when I go to Sephora. :) My go-to foundation is Revlon Colorstay for Oily Skin. It’s affordable and works amazingly well for me.

I’ve been using Laura Geller’s Balance and Brighten which is a powder. Unfortunately I have about 4 more of these to use. They’ll probably last longer than I will! I would love to try a liquid foundation. I’m thinking that powder foundation is making me look older. I don’t think I’d try this one. I really want to try a foundation from Tarte. They have a gorgeous soft & thick foundation brush that comes with it. Maybe I’ll bite the bullet sometime. Getting older stinks.

Right now I’m using Shiseido foundation and I LOVE it! And I also love their foundation brush. I don’t plan on switching now, but I wouldn’t mind trying this foundation in the future! Thanks for the review!

See when I first ran into this new foundation the first thing I thought was..’so gimicky’. I just don’t think there is any science behind their claim. The product judging from your review is pretty lackluckster. I totally appreciate the honesty in your posts! It kind of sounds like a tinted moisturizer at most.

Yeah, that doesn’t look like anything I’d really be interested in… the “technology” aspect sounds ridiculous and makes me think *all* their claims are BS!

I use Chantecaille compact powder foundation (LOVE EEEEET), along with their New Stick foundation (sparingly), and a bit of Urban Decay 24/7 concealer pencil (thanks to your swatches!). That powder foundation is seriously the BEST. Ultra-smooth, doesn’t cake, buildable, good staying power. Haven’t used anything else for years.

Recently started using Cargo’s foundation & love it (prompted by an “I’m in my 30s now and my skin is getting drier, yet I am still sort of acne-prone, ccooooll…phase). The color match is great on me, it’s very light and easy to apply, yet somehow covers very well. I do notice perhaps a tad more oiliness than I’d like throughout the day, but I generally get shiny, anyway, so it’s maybe just an extra round of blotting paper.

I actually stopped wearing foundation this Summer. I just wear either DHV Velvet Skin Coat or Benefit PoreFessional, some Amazing Cosmetics Concealer, and then I set it with MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural. I have found that I actually look younger and my skin looks better with LESS on my face! Probably because there isn’t anything settling into my fine lines. YAY for aging skin!

This sounds like a great product to try. Love Benefit, first of all. And I like anything that’s nongreasy.

I got a sample of this and tried it out. I have normal to dry skin, so you’d think a dewy foundation would work well for me, but this was just too dewy for me – I prefer something where I can skip powder, and I really, really needed to powder this down. My favorite right now is MUFE HD, it blends so nicely and the finish is really natural.

I’m actually trying out the Oxygen Wow in Ivory. The shade matches me okay (it’s a little dark, actually, but once I blend it in it looks fine), but I find that’s it’s surprisingly yellow-toned. Since I’m usually in a hurry in the mornings, I’ve been putting on a pretty light layer, but we’ll see if a more liberal application looks unnatural on fair, pink-toned skin.

  • February 28, 2012

I’m really interested in trying this out- I’ve read a couple other positive reviews, and I’d love to switch up my foundation schtick. I’ve been using MAC’s studio fix fluid for years.

Benefit counters won’t give out samples of foundation so I will wait to see if Sephora has it. I have a feeling that it will be too dark though.

I did try this out the other day but decided against it. I’m really enjoying the Hello Flawless powder right now in Honey Bunny and nothing ever comes close to the coverage I get from that. Were you able to compare matching colors with the powders? I’m having a really hard time right now because Champagne is too light, looks like flour and the Bunny one is too dark unless I’m tanning (which I started doing again for summer). They really should have an in between shade and that’s the reason I considered this foundation.
