Question of the Week

QOTW 1 27 12 Question of the Week

We have yet again reached the end of the week, hallelujah and congratulations!

Ahhhh, the love of shoes. It’s perhaps the one thing most of us women have in common. Doesn’t matter what “style” you are, shoes seem to be something that nearly every female I have ever met loved.

You could love tennis shoes, or biker boots, or stilettos, or ballet flats or flip flops or wedges. No matter, you still love them.

I think one of the huge reasons why is because your feet don’t really change much after a certain age. You don’t get cellulite or spider veins on your feet. You don’t really get wrinkles or droopy skin there. Your shoe size usually stays pretty much the same, so there is that comfort there. It’s a whole lot easier to try on shoes than jeans or tops or jackets.

So my question is…

What is your favorite type of shoe? Is there a shoe style that defines your personality?

For me, especially in the last couple years, it’s tall boots. Not knee or thigh-high, just a couple inches under the knee. I am a huge boot fanatic and the more zippers/buckles/motorcycle style they have, the better. And I don’t like heels on them. I’m talking flat boots or maybe 1/2 to an inch of a heel. Not spiked style. Straight up tough looking black leather boots that zip up the back with silver buckles on the sides. Yes.

  • For the winter it’s biker boots, for fall ankle wedge booties and for summer Converses. If a shoe would define my personality I think it would be the standard biker boot with a small heel, two buckles on the side and no zipper. Those are comfy as hell but still somewhat edgy and chic at the same time.

I have pumps in every color of the rainbow, but I basically live in flip-flops in the warm weather and boots in the fall and winter. Even my slippers are boot style.

  • I got two styles I wear endlessly. One is the old school “keds” type sneakers – wear them when I’m working around the property. Otherwise, I can almost always be found wearing some sort of wedge heel. Preferably open toed and no less than three inches. Actually I don’t own anything less than three inches unless it’s “work shoes”.

    I’m a total shoe whore.

  • Flip flops do it for me! I’ve found the best ones in the least expected places and prices. I own way too many and they are just too darn easy to slip on and go, not to mention they can match anything. And I got married overlooking the beach wearing flip flops :)
Next in line are my Ugg type boots and my Toms which again are very close to being barefoot. I’m all about comfort.

I love them all- high heels, sandals, boots, etc. But I had to put a kaibosh on purchasing as I started working from home and pretty much wear slippers all the time. So much for wearing but I guess I can look- cest la vie saves me money I guess.

  • Similar to you. :) I live in a climate where it’s boot weather for 8 months out of twelve and I like my boots. As I’m a skirt and dresses kind a gal, then my boots are usually the contrast to that. Just below the knee, laced up or buckled. Black or brown and no heels please. :)

I looove various sandals in the summer and pobably have too many. No heels again. I like my feet comfortable. And as a runner, I’m careful about injuring myself.

Still, occasionally I get a craving for something high-heeled. Usually once or twice a month. Wedges then, please. :) Most comfortable variant of high-heeled shoes. (Though I have a pair of regular high heeled black pumps and some fuchsia ankle boots.)

In conclusion: it’s either no heels, or high, at least 7cm heels for days when I feel like it. No middle ground. :)

Boots boots boots boots boots! I’ve been trying to find the boots I want and it’s really difficult. I want comfortable, low/no heeled, mid-calf to knee high, lace up, zip up, black leather boots without too much in the way of straps and buckles. It’ll probably take me the rest of winter to find them, and then it’ll be warm and not snowy-sloppy. Sigh.

I’m drawn to wedge pumps…or furry boots, which are rather impractical to wear in Atlanta :p

  • For winter it’s got to be boots! They’re always under my knees (maybe an inch or two). Since I wear dresses/skirts every day (not exaggerating. I have completely renounced jeans lol), I find boots very easy to go with them!

For summer it’s ballerina flats. I have several pairs in different colors. I do own stilettos, but it is IMPOSSIBLE to walk in Europe in them (cobblestone roads everywhere), so they are reserved for special occasions.

    Happy weekend Kelly!

I am definitely a shoe person! I have two loves, boots and heels – but never together. All my boots are flat, black, and although I have 4 pairs that I wear regularly and another 3-4 in the closet, each pair has a very district look. I also love heels, either pumps or sandal heels, but I get less chance to wear those day to day.

I love flat boots – black leather, studs, laces, zippers… you name it! They just make me feel like a badass, ha! I also love ballet flats and flip flops. I almost never wear heels unless it’s a special occasion. They are far too uncomfortable for my liking!

  • For me my most favorites are Converses. But I love vintage-style shoes, boho flats, boots with furry lining, maryjanes etc. I think it’s easier to say what I don’t particularly like :D I’m not one for wedges or platforms. Or pointy toes on shoes.

    Reply · 26 days ago
  • My damned feet are so picky that all I can wear are unstructured flats. Sadly I have gigantic calves so I can’t wear tall boots like you can. Ideally I wish I could wear the same tall boots as you and heels that aren’t too high, but I can’t wear it.

So usually I wear soft leather flats (harder to find than you may think), keds sneakers, Uggs (short) and I like Toms but stopped buying them after they got a hole in the front after a couple months…

  • I really love wearing knee-high boots in the fall and winter. They’re my favourite because you can wear them with skinny jeans or a sweater dress. I always feel really cozy wearing those kind of boots. And I think it suits my personality well, too.

  • Oh, I love shoes! Basically any type of shoes, as long as they have high heel, but my all time favourite shoes are high heeled boots. Under the knee high, black, a bit thicker high heel, platform if necessary. Total love. If they have any sorts of belts or leather/metal accessories on them (like my favourites ATM) it’s even better.

I’m a seasonal shoe person. In the spring and fall when it’s rainy all the time I wear really cool chunky high tops, or skate shoes. In the winter I wear boots or booties, always flat with interesting detailing. In the summer I wear mary janes, really colorful retro running shoes, or canvas shoes like Chucks or checkered Vans slip-ons. I dress like a really stylish boy most of the time, which is weird since I’m a cisgendered mostly straight woman.

DEFINITELY oxfords. I’m a very manly dresser (despite being a woman)–I wear slacks, blazers/vests, oxford shits, ties, etc. I love oxfords (the shoes) a lot (although I find it really difficult to find a style of shoe I enjoy in any form as a woman (I wear boy’s dress shoes a lot, too), I’m super picky about my style). I found I can find a lot at Aerosoles. Clothes shopping is a sort of large aggravation in my life, but a lot of the winter styles from H&M and now Aerosoles makes it a ton easier.

  • Boots. In my world any kind of boot is better than every kind of other shoe. For work (or play I’ll be honest) Steel Toes. Casual, Hiking boots, Formal Ankle boots, semi formal Every other kind of boot!
I don’t even consider myself a shoe girl but I will admit to owning too many boots. ;)

I love heels! The higher the better :-) That might have something to do with my height tho(I’m 5’2”) I have peep toe, closed toe, strappy and I like to collect them in colors (I have my eye on the Nine West ‘Resort’ collection that just came out) as well though I mainly have work appropriate colors presently (black, nude, brown etc). I also love Vans sliders & high tops but I only wear them when I’m planning on a lot of walking (Disney World anyone?). Sandals are also a shoe must as are boots (currently rocking calf high grey heeled boots!) but S.Fla weather isn’t always conducive to wearing them(boots) :-/ so I mainly stick with heels and sandals (I love my Gap gladiator rope style sandals!!)

Heeled ankle boots. I recently bought a pair that are dressy but also have tread, so they’re perfect for Colorado winters. A good pair of heeled boots and a pair of bootcut jeans do wonders for my legs.

I don’t love shoes, it takes me too long to break in any given pair, so I can’t just flit from pair to pair without having major blisters and raw spots on my feet. I have a reasonable wardrobe of shoes, all of which I like and do wear, and that’s good enough for me.

Actually, it’s easier for me to find clothes that fit than shoes. I have wide feet. Places like Target and Payless are virtually useless. I usually end up at Nordstroms or Zappos – they’re not cheap, but not having bleeding feet that are numb at the end of the night because you jammed them into shoes that don’t fit is worth every penny.

For winter boots are a must for where I live. I really don’t wear anything else. Summer time I love heels, ballet flats, fun tennis shoes. After a long winter I love going crazy on the girly shoes. Only shoes I really don’t like are flip flops and Uggs.

    Reply · 26 days ago
  • I really love all shoes but if I have to pick lately it has been sandals in all forms! Summer, flip flops, high heels, low heels, all sandals. I havent been wearing them much because its winter. Ive been wearing Uggs but in the spring watch out! I really love the the bling, rhinestones, glitter bring it!

  • My favorite are boots. And living in Florida is not good for a boot-wearer. Too hot! But I get them out whenever I can. Like today!!! Yea!!!

I like black boots and they can be short or just under the knee. I like the shorter ones better because they work with jeans better. But I like them with heels, block or tapered, not stiletto. And I like buckles, laced up, zippers too. I used to have a pair of Ropers which are like Doc Martins. Man, I wore the hell out of those!!! I should invest in another pair because I love the bad-ass look of them.

I am definitely a ballet flat lover! I am pretty short (barely 5’3″) and I love being short so I don’t generally feel like I need the height. I love looking at heels and own my fair share, but ballet flats are my first and most ardent loves. For the past few years my favorite shoe brand has been Sam Edelman (very good combination of style, quality, and reasonable price point)–I have 5 pairs of flats and a pair of heels from him and I have been thinking about my next acquisition. I love his studded styles (I have Beatrix and Lorissa, look them up, they’re great!) and I’m thinking about adding Adena. Or maybe Roza (black velvet with gold studded heel!!), but flats are certainly more practical. Unfortunately one pair of shoes = a lot of nail polish so some budgeting IS involved, hahaha.

  • It’s all about the heels. Nothing lower than 3 1/2 inches. Always stunning details, always meticulously cared for, and never higher than 5 inches. When I was a little girl I’d parade around in my mom’s heels, then she taught me how to wear my own. It’s just natural for me. Even when I’m barefoot or in flats I walk on my toes.

i like flat boots best too(looks wise) i suppose, but don’t really wear them. i don’t wear leather, so theres a limited amount of quality boots out there for me. i think I’m one of those rare females who don’t really love shoes, i thinks its my odd feet, and not wearing leather that makes shoe-buying awful for me. i have long thin(not width so much, the height i guess- i have pancake feet lol) feet, one is a 1/2 size smaller, so virtually no heels fit me- if they’re long enough, they just fall off my feet, even with inserts. a strap helps. sometimes i just force myself to wear heels for events- and did it twice in a week last fall and still am growing out a partially black nail- ewww!

My favorite type of shoes; I have three… One, for winter, tennis shoes. I love a good pair of tennis shoes. Two main pairs I’m wearing right now are navy blue New Balance and dark silver Saucony.
Two, for summer, flip flips…. I will wear all sorts of flip flops. No heels. I found the most comfortable ones last year and they are New Balance. Love em!
Three, Birkenstocks. Can be worn for summer or winter and last for freaking ever before they start falling apart. They are also incredibly comfortable. :)

I think the shoe that defines my personality would have to be Converse. I love them and have since I was a kid. I can wear them with everything. But my second fave would definitely be boys like you describe. I really love boots also. And I’ve been wearing my Doc Martens a lot lately too… I guess I just really love footwear which just goes to prove your point. Great question!

I’m very into military boots and all kinds of clogs. Boots in the winter since there is a lot of snow in northern Sweden, and traditional clogs in the summer. I do wear clogs in the winter as well, especially high heeled ones that look a bit like boots. My all time favourite is the high heeled Jodhpur from Swedish hasbeens! (se link below)

BUT now that I use a wheelchair most of the time I’m thinking of getting some ridiculous heels since I won’t need to walk in them ;) Oh that I could afford Louboutons! But I’ve seen a few that I want badly.

My favorites are any kind of shoes you can slip-on. And I don’t wear anything with a heel higher than 2 1/2 inches and prefer flats. Like others said, I found that wedge heels are the most comfortable if I am going for the higher heels, stack heels are nice too. I avoid stilletos because I hate pain and I’m a klutz who will fall and break my neck. Mules, clogs, ballet flats, running shoes that are tied just right so that you can slide you feet in and go!

While they are comfortable on short excursions, avoid Keds if you are doing a lot of walking. I wore them in Washington DC all day long and my feet were killing me at the end of the day. I might have well been wearing stilletos. Make sure your shoes have lots of support for a long day!

I LOVE shoes. Period. But, my favorites have always been boots. Any boots. Doesn’t matter. Lately I have been getting into what I call Hooker Heels. Anything 4-6″ tall, platform, wedge, whatever. I am short (5’4″) so i need the height. They work with everything. Skinny jeans, dresses, skirts, etc. I also LOVE my Converse shoes. My goal is to get them in every color.

I have a favorite pair of blowfish booties with a wedge heel that are super cute and comfy make my feet look smaller than they already are. In the same vein, I love espadrilles too.

Nebraska winters aren’t always the best for fun shoes, so I usually rock black leather knee high boots when it’s really cold or snowy, preferably with a heel. It’s like having ice picks on your feet. Now I’m anxious for my summer shoes…
