Kat Von D True Romance Eyeshadow Palette Mi Vida Loca for Spring 2012 Swatches & Review

Kat Von D has a brand new True Romance Eyeshadow Palette out called Mi Vida Loca available only at Sephora.
As you know, I have a sick obsession with owning these palettes but this one really called to me anyway because it’s filled with fun, bright colors! And no creme shadows! No black! And a cool mini Autograph Eyeliner Pencil in Wonderchild.
There are a couple things I don’t love about this palette though. It comes in her newer metal case that has a spring-lock mechanism. What I don’t like about it is that it pops fully open so you cannot get the mirror part inside to tilt upwards. It lays completely flat and there is nothing you can do about it. I preferred her plastic palettes to these ones, but it’s not a big enough issue that it would stop me from buying them. Just annoying.

As usual, the colors are all listed on the backside.

Wonderchild

Swan Song, Marga, No Regrets, Drama For Yo Mamma

Swan Song, Marga, No Regrets, Drama For Yo Mamma
Swan Song is a light opalescent pink/white shimmer.
Marga is a pale icy pink shimmer.
No Regrets is a bright fuchsia pink with small pink glitter.
Drama For Yo Mamma is a medium purple matte.
Pigmentation was pretty decent with all except Drama For Yo Mamma, which was a bit chalky and not great. The first two were extremely soft and super easy to get nice coverage.

Mad Max, Dublin, Sparklehorse, Altruism

Wonderchild Autograph Pencil, Mad Max, Dublin, Sparklehorse, Altruism
Wonderchild is a deep yet bright blue color with blue glitter. Decent pigmentation, not the best on earth though. It’s supposed to be waterproof as well.
Mad Max is a bright sky blue matte.
Dublin is a bright Kelly green shimmer.
Sparklehorse is a buttery warm yellow/gold.
Altruism is a pale vanilla shimmer.
All of these I found to be really pigmented and super soft and nice. I was actually kind of surprised about Mad Max and Dublin, from looking at them I expected chalkiness. But I liked them a lot! Sparklehorse and Altruism are super soft and gorgeous.
Overall:
Great palette! I am really glad she went away form her usual darks and cremes and came out with something bright, yet wearable. I feel like the last four are the four worth buying the palette for especially. So pretty.
Availability: Sephora.
Pricing: $34.00.
What do you think about Mi Vida Loca? Interesting enough to take a peek at in person?

This is my birthday present to myself. Cannot wait to get my hands on it!

Hi Michelle,
Nice gift!
What a beautiful palette! I’m a bit mad that you can’t get it here in Germany. Hello Sephora? Hear me? We NEED this palette over here, so PLEASE set up international shipping asap!!
I hope this helps
Nice swatches, as always!
Sophie´s last post…A poetic manicure
Hi Sophie,
I know! They need to start selling her stuff over there!
This looks like a great summer palette–the only time I bust out of my rut and actually attempt a little bright color on my eyes! Just out of curiosity, do you often use the mirror included in the palette to apply the colors? I actually really like the new design of these and I might actually pick one up now that it seems a bit sturdier.
Hi Pamela,
I would use it if I was traveling and needed good lighting near a window in a hotel room. Usually hotel bathrooms are SO dark!
Ugh, between this palette and the new nail polishes I’m going to have to force myself to get over my dislike of Kat Von D….I really really like this palette, especially good price too.
Frosso´s last post…Lynnderella Mercurial
Hi Frosso,
I hear ya, haha. I have three of the nail polishes but have yet to swatch them. Hope they’re good!
omg I hope you swatch them soon! I’m super curious about them!

Hi Micki,
Yeah they definitely aren’t for everyone. I was just glad to see something a little different from her mostly dark colors for once!
I like Kat von D’s palettes and also feel the need to own them all, however, some of them contain an ingredient that I’m allergic to, so I’ve had to pass. Darn! Guess I’ve saved some money…but…her palettes are just so pretty! It would be fun to collect them.

Hi Swatch and Learn,
Aww bummer! I always like how palettes looked stacked up. It’s my book fetish kicking in I think.
Great colors I like that shes moving on from all the dark shades her other ones have stuck to!
Ashley´s last post…Erase Paste in Fair by Benefit
Hi Ashley,
Me too! I hope no more of those are the dreaded cremes!
I love all her palettes! The last time I was at Sephora they hadn’t gotten in this one yet so I’ll definitely have to check this weekend. I’m so happy she did away with the creme shadows and those midget brushes! Thanks for the swatches & review.
Kristal´s last post…OPI Mermaid’s Tears
Hi Kristal,
Yes I would much rather have an eyeliner than useless brushes.
I love this palette…but feel like I own too many similar shades but i still want it, haha. Seems like she is no longer adding cream shadows in(per the last few palettes) Thank goodness!! Those are such a waste.
I got mine the other day–it’s my first Kat von D palette so I squee’d a bit
I love how the polish and shadow names are the same (though Wonderchild is more purple than the pencil).
Thanks for the review, great swatches!!
ManicuredSlayer´s last post…Too Pretty To Use!
I share your sick obsession! I don’t mind the case or that it lies flat. I use a lighted makeup mirror so I don’t use the case’s mirror. These look so nice. I will have to buy it. I’m also thrilled that there isn’t a black shadow in there. I have enough from her other palettes.
Ahhhhh this is my 5th KVD palette. I don’t care for the metal packaging but LOVE the design. I went out and got this as soon as I read it! Sephora didn’t even have it out on the shelves yet!
Thank goodness for no creme shadows! I have the Adora Love/Fury pallette and have no clue how to use those creme shadows at all.
Some of these shades are really killer though, specifically the last (4) like you said! The texture of the Wonderchild eyeliner looks nice and creamy. Does it smudge out well too?
I’m excited to see your thoughts on the Kat Von D polishes!
Florence´s last post…I Lily Love Super Bass
Not my favorite so far, i´m a neutral kind of gal
I’ll be interested to hear how the wear is on the pencil- it’s beautiful. I hope it’s better than her cream shadows. SO happy that she omitted those from this palette!
