Kat Von D High Voltage Nail Lacquer Swatches & Review

Kat Von D Nail Polish Kat Von D High Voltage Nail Lacquer Swatches & Review

Did you know that Kat Von D now has nail lacquer out? Yep! It’s called High Voltage Nail Lacquer.

So far there are just four shades in smallish bottles (0.25 oz). but they are shimmery and fun! The shades are Mad Max (blue), No Regrets (fuchsia), Wonderchild (purple) and Sparklehorse (yellow). I don’t have Sparklehorse A. because it wasn’t available the same time as the other three and B. I am pretty sure that warm yellow will not look good on me anyway.

Each of her bottle caps are decorated with her black and silver rose tattoo design with her initials on top. They have a slight grip to them which makes holding them nice.

The one gripe I have is the wand is extremely short so basically you open it and have the brush immediately. Kind of strange but not really hard to paint with.

Some more info about them from Sephora:

These vibrant, vivacious nail lacquers were inspired by the neon trends of the ’80s. The high-quality, richly pigmented formulas will catch all eyes in the room with their bright, ultra-reflective shine. Infused with tiny particles of shattered glass, these are the boldest and shiniest polishes you’ll find. The extended wear, anti-chip formula is water and detergent resistant and provides UV protection to ensure the color’s fidelity.

These lacquers are formulated without toluene, formaldehyde, and DBP.

Kat Von D No Regrets Kat Von D High Voltage Nail Lacquer Swatches & Review
No Regrets

No Regrets is a bright shimmery fuchsia pink. There are hints of blue sparkle in there also. It’s a great bright pink, though I don’t think all that unique from some others perhaps. The formula was nice. I needed three coats for full coverage, but no issues.

Kat Von D Wonderchild Kat Von D High Voltage Nail Lacquer Swatches & Review
Wonderchild

Wonderchild is a shimmery amethyst purple. This too has some blue shimmer in it in certain lighting. Very pretty deep purple color, again not sure it’s all that unique. This was three coats.

Kat Von D Mad Max Kat Von D High Voltage Nail Lacquer Swatches & Review
Mad Max

Mad Max is a medium shimmery blue with a purple duochrome effect. You cannot see the duochrome in this photo, but believe me it’s there. It’s very purple/blue in real life. I used three coats.

Mad Max (no flash low lighting)

In this photo you can see the purple more. It’s a really cool color in person, definitely the one I liked the most.

Overall:

I think this is a nice sorta “safe” start for her to venture into the nail polish world. I feel these are safe because they’ve all been done before. I would love to see something super off the wall from her! I do think the polishes are overpriced for the size. I wish they were around $8.00.

Availability: Sephora only.

Pricing: $12.00 each.

What do you think about High Voltage Nail Lacquer?

  • the colors are pretty but they remind me a lot of a China Glaze tropical collection from a while back. love the packaging, though. but at the end of the day – too pricey for me.

  • I like these! Too bad it requires 3 coats though. I really only have the patience for two!

i would never pay that much for these.. you get only half the amount of nail polish than what you get with OPI, and they are more expensive! Not to mention that you have to use 3 coats to get coverage.. and all the colours are unoriginal!

A color has to be really something special for me to venture outside my trusted brands (not to mention drop more than $10 on a bottle), and these just aren’t doing it for me. Pretty, shimmery foils, but nothing special.

  • These certainly are pretty shades, but since they’re not totally unique and the price is quite high, I’m passing. I do love looking at your swatches of them, though! Thanks, Kelly!

  • Wonderchild is beautiful, but it’s not unique enough for a $12 price tag. :/

  • Agree – definitely overpriced for the size of the bottle! They are tiny and not too unique, but pretty.

Oh drat. I think I will skip on them. The colors look like things I already have and they are just a bit too expensive to justify pretty bottles. Thanks for reviewing them though Kelly! I had said I was waiting for your review on Twitter :D

I definitely love them, especially Mad Max. Anyway, I find them too expensive for being small size bottles.
    Mhm…I’m waiting for a dupe :D

  • I agree that these shades are not unique. However, if someone doesn’t have a bazillion polishes and surely have something like this in their collection, these are, definitely, beautiful additions.

  • I don’t find the colors too interesting. For someone like Kat Von D I kinda expected a little bit more exciting. But you never know what the future may bring! :)

Great swatch pics, as always! But yeah, these are not very interesting and WAAAAAY too pricey for such a tiny bottle. They seem similar to the Nubar set for The Painted Nail — which are full size bottles for the same price.

I am all over getting a bottle of No Regrets – so much glass flec shine – loving it – and I am a HUGE fuchsia/magenta polish fanatic.

  • I looooove Mad Max. I almost bought it, but it’s 14$ in Canada. It’s cute, but not THAT cute. Especially when the bottles look virtually identical to the WnW Craze ones, which makes me thing these are extravagantly overpriced.

  • Your original picture made me want them but I think I’ll hold off. Polish is getting so expensive and I hate making mistakes. If they weren’t similar to others I think I’d jump at these though.

Nice bottles but small. Too much money to pay for such a small size. Seen these shades before. I do love her makeup and can’t resist her palettes.

$12 for half a bottle? So that would be $25 for a full size. Hmmm this should be better than a Deborah Lippmann, Rescue Beauty Lounge, Butter London, or a Chanel polish at that price, no? Looks like a Sally Hansen HD in a Wet n Wild Craze bottle to me. What a rip off!!!!!

For me those colors aren’t interesting enough but it’s so nice to see some lovely swatches and come to conclusion that I really don’t need more stuff ;)
