Beep, Beep, Beep! 5:00 AM Wake Up Call!

We all have to wake up at some point during the day.
Or maybe not?
Ok most of us have to wake up and get “ready” at some point to go to work, or school or the grocery store. Or hell, just be able to look at yourself in the mirror without wanting to gag (maybe that’s just me).
During the work week I have to wake up at an ever-hellish 5:00 am. In case you were wondering, this doesn’t get any easier, even after 5 years of it. In the early darkness I stumble into the shower (after brushing the teeth), because that is the only thing that halfway wakes me up. Not to mention I am most definitely NOT one of those people who can just wake up with good hair.
This is what I look like when I wake up.

Source
Minus the facial scruff. And the fact that I don’t wake up as the opposite sex. Normally.
Then I do the following.
- I keep my hair in a towel to soak up water as I do my makeup.
- First up is moisturizer, moisturizer, moisturizer around eyes…
- Then all over my face with an SPF moisturizer (I prefer Clinique Super Defense).
- Next up is either a BB Cream if I’m feeling lazy (Dr. Jart) or a primer (I use ones from Hard Candy & Tarte mainly).
- Foundation is the next step. My go-to is still Dior Capture Totale or Chanel Pro Lumiere.
- I very rarely use powder because it makes those of us who are over oh say 32 look older. But if I see excess shine on forehead/chin/nose I’ll use a little of a brightening one.
- After that I always slap on my ever-so-trusty Too Faced Shadow Insurance on lids.
- Then comes my least favorite part. Filling in eyebrows. I hate this because my eyebrows tend to grow out FAST and get wonky. Plus one is always super arched and nice, and the other just pisses me off. It takes me some time to fill them in with MAC Omega Eyeshadow (yep, I’m back to my old standby) and get them even.
- Finally the good stuff! It takes me about 58 minutes to decide what eyeshadows to wear. Kidding. But really, I do have to have some idea of colors/brands while I am doing the other stuff otherwise I would never be able to choose.
- After eyeshadows are applied then I do eyeliner in some fashion. Usually I only line upper lid during work week because I have no time to get all crazy, but sometimes I do both.
- Next up, mascara!
- Here is where I apply MAC Fast Response Eye Cream to my under-eye area, prepping it for concealer.
- Blush goes on next.
- Then on goes a concealer or a pink brightener under the eye area, ONLY on my darker spots. I do not apply concealer (or anything) all over the whole under-eye or I would look 98 years old within 5 minutes.
- Finally I put on either a lip gloss or lipstick, and sometimes under the lipstick I use MAC Prep & Prime Lip Conditioner.
- My GOD, am I done yet? No, still the ever dreaded hair blowing out session.
- Take towel off head and very gently squeeze excess water out.
- Comb with large tooth comb.
- Add whatever concoction I am putting into it before blowing out.
- Blow all hair for a couple minutes to soak up more water.
- Dry bangs ASAP lest they start that dreaded bend-y thing they do.
- Starting with very bottom, section out and blow dry with large round brush.
- Then do the same with middle section.
- Finally the same with the very top.
- Normally I then run a flat iron just over the very sides of my hair. I have a bob cut, and if it’s not dried JUST right, it bends and flips and makes me crazy.
- I spray the bangs and back lightly with hairspray and smooth down flyaways.
By the time all this has ended I am hot, sweaty and annoyed. Hot and sweaty because I have no window in my bathroom and annoyed because I wasn’t born with hair like Portia de Rossi. Despite all the steps listed here, after my shower it only takes me 25-30 minutes max for makeup and hair, so not too bad I suppose.
So tell me, what are your morning beauty rituals? Whats your favorite and least favorite part of your routine?

Great post, you made me actually laugh out loud when I scrolled down to see the picture!
My favorite part of my morning is definitely COFFEE. Oh wait, were we talking about makeup? I don’t actually wear much during the school week – I’m usually in too much of a hurry in the morning to do more than mascara, and maybe some eyeliner and/or lipstick.
What I really enjoy is doing my makeup when I’m going out in the evening – that’s when get I take my time and do a full face.

Hi emi s.,
Thanks! Oh yes coffee is mandatory but I wait until after my 1 hour commute in, haha.
Funny post! And if you looked like that in the morning, I want to move in, lol! I always exercise on the morning for around 1 hour or so, shower, eat, then dress and do my face. I always take my time on the morning, because I hate rushing.
“if you looked like that in the morning, I want to move in”
I thought the same! LoL I

Hi Mellinail,
LOL, you’re funny! I wish I could exercise in the AM but waking up at 4:00 ain’t happenin’
I WISH I had a morning makeup routine. I have long hair that I straighten once after I get out of the shower, and generally if it gets wavy in the day or two between showers, I’ll leave it. However, try as I might, I dont have a makeup routine. I have a toddler (I work nights and stay home during the day), and so generally I’m half asleep while I’m making breakfast and cleaning up. Despite it being my New Years Resolution to put makeup on every morning, I just cant get into it. I usually end up doing it in the 10 min before I leave for work.
Hi Virginia,
Oh yes, with a little kid I can see how hard that would be. I wish I could last more than 1 day in-between washing hair, but my hair is too fine.
I just WISH I could get out of the shower and finish within a half hour! I used to have “betty” bangs, for a long time actually, so I completely understand having to take care of bangs first. They couldn’t even be wrapped up in my towel they were so finicky! My hair is long and I’m way over due for a new style, but if I blow it out and straighten it I’m looking at 45 minutes at least. and that’s if I hurry with my makeup. Luckily, if everything goes right I can get my face taken care of in 10 minutes.
Sheesh!

Hi Jessica,
Doing my hair is my lest favorite thing on earth, so I feel your pain. My hair (at this length) only takes maybe 8 minutes to blow out but that seems like forever!
Oh 5 am!! that is a torture!! An you still have energy for blogging!
Have you tried a Brazilian blowout? that makes your hair so silky and shiny that it takes nothing to blow and make it look nice!!
Usually I´m in a hurry to take my kid to school, but I can´t go out without concealer, i have very dark circkes, it´s just genetics i think…
But then i have more time and my “routine” is:
- Estee Lauder daywear moisturizer
-Erborian BB Cream in doré or diorskin nude
-estee lauder concealer
-I´m so happy with my new blush, givenchy prism in lune rosée
-now I have to blow a little my hair (just the roots , I have it straightend and it´s time for doing the regrowths)
That is my everyday make up, then, depending on the day I wear eye shadow and mascara
And my perfume!! Eau so fresh, from marc Jacobs!!
I Admire you, at 5 am i would be like Michael douglas in A Day of Fury LOL
Mara´s last post…Nubar Classic Camel
Hi Mara,
Yeah 5:00 blows! The good thing is I leave work super early and am home (after a 1 1/2 hour commute) by 4:20 or so. My hair is pretty much stick straight but fine, so either way I have to get it wet and blow out for volume, or it would be a limp noodle!
Glad to know I’m not the only one with eyebrows that want to mismatch!
I’m a morning person…like an extreme morning person. I like to get up between 3 and 4 and lounge around/internet/read/play video games/whatever before getting ready and going to work. My makeup routine is some tinted moisturizer, a bit of eyeliner, and a bit of mascara. And my hair routine is braid or hair clip, so it all probably only takes 10-15 mins.
Hi Michelle,
Wow, that IS extreme! I am so not a morning person, my natural waking time is 9-9:30. I’m more of a night owl
My God, woman, you. are. INSANE. I could not live with that and my mom thinks I am insane with my “morning” routine. (I am firmly not a morning person. Not since I was 16. If it’s before one pm, I’m dead to the world.) On nonschool/appointment/I’m not going anywhere days, you won’t see me dressed before 3 (if I’m up then. I have a tendency to read until 5 am.) I am LAZY. I might even take a nap then with Zena. I just am that lazy.
Anyway, MY beauty routine (after putting in contact lenses and pulling hair back in messy bun and headband):
1. Spritz on Dermalogice Ultracalming Mist (which by the way, is freaking cold!)
2. Apply Dermalogica Ultracalming Barrier Repair followed by
3. Applying Clinique Supermoisture Tinted Moisturized in Shade 1 (it’s pale as me…okay a ounce darker, but not noticeably so. It’s the closest I’ve gotten to getting something my shade.)
4. Apply Benefit Boi-ing! (shade 1) on uber dark genetically made undereye circles that I have no hope of curing.
5. Apply brows with Benefit Brow Zing in the darkest color (can’t remember the name.) I have great brows as is, but I like filling them in as I have some bare areas from years of Trichotillomania which I still struggle with at times.
6. On school days, I generally use Virgin, Naked and Buck (sometimes I use Hustle or Toasted for some drama) from Naked 1 with UD Zero pencil and mascara. On non school days….who knows what I’ll think up of. It might be the school day look, it might be cat eyes, it might be a dark purple smokey, a bright blue smokey, bright blue eyeliner….you get the picture. My brain has no limits.
7. Blush. Most of the time, it’s either Stila convertible in Petunia or a NYC color mosaic pink blush. Pinks are my blush type. I rarely use bronzer.
8. Lips! I’m a lipgloss girl. Which one I’ll pick one, even on school days, is unknown even to me. That’s why I have 7 in my bag. I only have 3 lipsticks in my bag. I have a WHOLE little bag of lipglosses at home, while I only have about 9 other lipsticks.
9. Hair. My hair is generally brushed and put in some form of a braid(s) (Dutch, French, Rope, French Ropes, Knotted…I have a lot of them) and bunned or just bunned or put into a tail(s). Depends how I feel. My colicky bangs tamed via a little water and a few tricks with a brush (sometimes the tiniest bit of product) since I got them cut with a technique to work with my cowlick by my hairdresser. If I want curls, I pin curled them before bed (that’s the ONLY way my fine and silky hair will take curls), so I just take out the pins and adjust. I think I use a flat iron….once every other week? Even that seems like too much to me!
That’s it for beauty. Very low maintenance compared to some other people.
Hi Kate & Zena,
Oh believe me, it’s not like I want to get up this early, haha. But I commute 2 1/2 hours to and from work a day, so getting here early means leaving early. I’m home by 4:20. On weekends I wake naturally between 9-9:30 am and am definitely a night owl!
My dad wakes up the same time and he hates it too. His commute is an hour via train because he makes sure to take the express routes (he despises those routes that stop at every. single. stop. It takes 2 1/2 hours.) He comes home at 6:20.
I, being the college student, can choose my schedule and I love it. I only have one class this semester at my community college because I’m looking at professional dog grooming schools. What we’re (meaning my parents, my team of doctors and me) trying to do is find an occupation where I can be happy yet not be hindered by any of my disorders. I axed any and all of my parents suggestions (NO CUBICLES. I would die of creative and mobility starvation.) and my doctors agreed dogs would be best because I a) know all about them and b) I’m happiest with them. There’s no training schools in my area (which I want to do most), but I like grooming too, so we’re looking at those this semester. I think Zena isn’t going to be pleased with me.
I agree, cubicles are hell on earth! I have only ever worked in one and only had a window one time for like 2 months. It sucks!
I haven’t even been in one all day, but I just shudder at the thought. My dad has worked in one his entire career for the most part. He stopped working in tanks when I was 4 or 5 and ordered to CI. Being there means lots of cube time. When I was there because he was baby-sitting me for an hour, I got REALLY bored REALLY fast. Nothing to do in a cube; in the Army, those cubes are actual CUBES. No rectangles. Cubes. Very, very boring.
I came to the conclusion at six I never wanted a cube job. I can’t go running up and down the lanes. I can’t dance in a cube. Can’t nap in a cube. Can’t fit a fridge that stays cold cold so my soda and my food don’t get stolen. Can’t fit a dog. Poor lighting. Poor vibe. No life. No room so my claustrophobia would kick in. No way. No cubing. Not ever. NOT ME. I’d rather be run over by a steamroller than suffer that life.
Morning ritual: Wake up. Groan. Roll over to the BF’s side of the bed, look at clock. Groan again, loudly. Get up to go pee. Wince as my bare feet hit the cold laminate. Pee. Wash hands. Peer into mirror, pull a face. Pull down eyelids, looking for anaemia. Shower. Use Elemis Marine cleanser and moisturiser on face and slap on copious amounts of body lotion to prevent lizard skin. Faff around with deodorant and perfume. If brave, face facial imperfections (baggy eyes, broken veins, redness, milia, yeti eyebrows) then correct with half a ton of cosmetics. If not feeling so brave, pledge to avoid mirrors all day. Towel dry hair then let it do its thing, unless it’s looking particularly crappy, in which case I might straighten it, or put it in a pony tail.
Leah´s last post…My first ever Carmine box
Hi Leah,
Haha, I like the groaning part because that’s quite accurate. Waking up to an alarm should be illegal.
Uhm-Wake up, pee, make coffee, shower, let hair air-dry (I have platinum blonde hair that’s going thru a ‘fried’ Stage right now-get dressed, work on nail art, clean house, attempt to get over the awful head cold I’ve been nursing, eat breakfast with the coffee, watch my shows. I’m not working at the moment because I’ve been horribly sick on and off since Xmastime-but I need to work soon so I imagine I’ll be seeing lots of early a.m. days also. : )
Erin Does Nails´s last post…Round 2.
Hi Erin Does Nails,
Been there with the platinum blond hair! The only time I ever had hair breakage was when I was having it straight-up bleached. I wound up cutting off anyway though, hee hee.
I am NOT a morning person either, I have to be at work at 7am and getting up early is never ever easy. I take showers at night so that saves me some time, but the next morning my hair looks like a HOT MESS just like you pictured haha. And I hate to admit it but I just cannot for the life of me get out of bed early enough to do my hair…headbands and ponytails are my best friends. My hair pretty much look like poop everyday but on the bright side at least I’m not using heat on my hair everyday (since I’m trying to grow it out and keep it healthy)!
Amanda´s last post…NOTD Half Moon Camel
Hi Amanda,
That is true heat can be bad! When I don’t leave the house I usually let mine air dry.
This was so fun! :O I could literally image you doing all this. lol Awesome!
Hi Kary,
Haha, glad you liked it!
I’m going to be very honest here. On most days I wear almost no makeup!
I shampoo/dry my hair when I have to (not every day. My hair is too long for that), shower, fill in my eyebrows, highlight my brow bones (with Bobbi Brown Bone. It’s matte so it doesn’t look weird if I’m not wearing anything else on my eyes), cover up post-acne pigmentation spots, and if I feel like it I slather on some lipstick. That’s it… lol
I live in a university town where the majority of the people are SO laidback about makeup. That’s why I feel OK slacking off (people definitely look when I go out with full-face makeup). Sure my skin is not picture-perfect or anything, but at the moment I’m still fine not wearing a foundation every day.
You have it hard, Kelly. 5AM!!! What’s your bedtime?
Sunny´s last post…Swatch & Review: KATE Gel Eyebrow in BR-3
Hi Sunny,
That’s kinda how I am also with my work. I work for a Biotech company in Development and hardly any of the women wear makeup or dress “fashionable”. It’s so laid back I could probably come in literally in PJ’s and no one would even notice, haha!
As far as bedtime during the week usually 9-9:30. Weekends I am up usually till 11-12 or so and sleep in until 9 or 9:30. I’m a night owl at heart.
Oh man, if I go to bed at 11 I actually consider that early! You go Kelly!
Sunny´s last post…Swatch & Review: KATE Gel Eyebrow in BR-3
I used to be able to stay up to 1-3 but no way. Too old now, haha!
Fortunately, I don’t have to be at work until 9:00 most days, so I don’t use an alarm clock but wake up at first light, usually 6:30ish. Then it’s let the dogs out, make coffee, give the dogs treats, put slow cooking oatmeal on, take the dogs for a walk, eat breakfast, then jump in shower. Notice how much of that is spent catering to dogs?
Then it’s brush teeth, comb hair, facial toner, serum and moisturizer, body butter and deodorant. Iron clothes and get dressed. Then comes eye and face primer, foundation and under eye concealer, eyeshadow/liner/mascara primer/mascara, followed by blush and setting powder. Last is lip gloss. Then I still have to dry/style hair, or if I’m running late, put it in a ponytail.
This is all usually interrupted by going outside to tell dogs “no barking!!!” about 4 times, followed by taking away their outside privileges when it happens yet again.
Despite all this, I love my mornings.

Hehe, what a fun post, Kelly! I loved reading it. Wow, and when you list all the things you do to get ready, it seems like a lot! I think that lots of women put a lot of effort into getting ready.
(I don’t want to scare myself by listing my routine…hehe)
Swatch And Learn´s last post…Cake Strawberry Shortcake Decadent Bath & Shower Suds Review & Pictures
Oh wow, so I’m not the only one that ends up sweaty and annoyed. For the same reason, of course. Seriously – no window in the bathroom and stubborn hair. *tired sigh*
But I love doing my make up. The thing is, I am sometimes very very late, because I’m not a morning person and I *hate* getting up early. There is no word for how much I hate that, I’m so grumpy my family just got used to not talking to me until I’m completely finished with my routine. It’s simple. Breakfast, bathroom with the usual washing up, then if I have make up time, putting my make up on (similar to yours, with exception of foundation), trying to do at least *something* with my hair, say ‘f****’, try again, give up, choose a lipstick, get my ‘urgent’ make up stuff for the day in the little bag I always carry around and run to catch my bus.
PS: FIVE A.M.?!! I’d get fired in a week for being late every single day, I dare say.
Ulmiel´s last post…Kiko 255 and 296
When I have to work I set my alarm at 6:40 and snooze till 7.
First thing I do is turn on the tv in my room. I don’t shower in the morning, but at night because I feel gross to go to bed with all the ‘dirt’ from that day
I do give myself a sponge bath though ;p
Then I go back to my room and I clean my face with a cleaning wipe and put on foundation and powder
Then I go make my breakfast and go back to my room and eat while on my bed. I have the smallest room on planet earth. While eating I watch the news.
I wait till it’s 7:45/7:50/ and put on my work clothes. I wasn’t naked before that, but I always have to put on my pj’s again
And I apply mascara. Depending on how I feel I apply eyeliner as well. I fix my hair, which takes me a minute, but I have the worst hair ever! I just put it in a knot, because that’s the only way it will stay in place. I have a ‘half afro’ xD
Then I go brush my teeth, go back to my room again, turn off the tv, turn off the light, get my back and coat and go to the living room. Put on my shoes and all of a sudden it’s later than expected and leave for work. It only takes 5 minutes to get there

fyeahilovenails´s last post…Color Club – Love ‘Em Leave ‘Em
As much as I love makeup, I can not do all of that in the morning. No way. My routine is: cleverly ignore first alarm clock by placing blanket over my head. When the second alarm clock goes off, hit the snooze on the first, turn off the second, and start thinking about what I will make the kiddo for breakfast while waiting for the third alarm. It goes off, I get up, pee, brush teeth, wash face and moisturize, go downstairs while my two cats weave between my feet. Make coffee, while it is brewing I wake the kiddo. He asks me for five more minutes, so in the meantime I put on primer, Palladio wet/dry foundation, blush, and spray face with water. Wake him again and while he is peeing make him breakfast and pack his snack and lunch. Oh, I sip coffee between all this. Give him his breakfast, in the meantime get dressed. Put hair in ponytail unless it looks good, in which case I just brush it. Remind the kid to put on his clothes. Grab shoes, sign paperwork for school, remind him to put socks on. Add water bottle to his lunch, remind him to put shoes on. Put a little note in his lunchbox, remind him to put on his belt. Fix his hair, depending on if he wants to go spiky, fauxhawk, or just a side part. Remind him to zip his zipper. Grab keys while putting on whatever lipstick I find in a pocket/purse, etc. while he debates which of his colognes he wants to wear. Push him out the door as I remind him to grab his backpack. Get in the car, glance at myself in the mirror, and thank all that is good and holy for the fact that I work from home.
I’m curious if you don’t mind me asking-a 2 1/2 hour Commute each way?
You must simply have an amazing Job! Anything over an hour each way and my car guzzles gas like it’s starving; because my car is older, it’s stopped me from accepting good nail jobs that were over 25 miles one way; although, I must say, my fiancee and I are making a solid effort to move over the hill closer to his job, and with that, I’d actually be able to take some of those ‘far away’ jobs. : )
Hi Erin,
Actually no, I hate my job! But in the Bay Area if you want max $$ and live across the bay from SF, you have to commute far away. I’ve been there nearly 10 years because I got stuck. Horrible market right now so no choice. :/
Ahhh…yes, now I get why your Commute is so far; the Bay is *very* expensive. ; )
Erin Does Nails´s last post…Nibble + A Commute?
My, you look like a very handsome man when you wake up.
If I do all that, it would take me hours. I’m like taking for ever to get ready savant!
I wake up 2 hours before I actually leave the house for work. It is a completely intense routine, very similar to yours. My least favorite part is my brows! Oh, and picking out my eye shadow. Because if I have my heart set on a certain color eye then I might have to change my outfit. LOL
Michelle Miller´s last post…Pamper and protect your hands this winter!
I HATE drying my hair!!! I’m lucky enough that my hair doesn’t get greasy, so I can go 3-4 days without washing it, so I always shower at night to shave an hour off my getting-ready routine in the morning. The only problem I had with sleeping on my hair was that I would get little “bald” patches where the hair would be pressed down at a weird angle and become really flat. I would usually wet that patch down with some water and do a quick blow dry to restore volume. I recently discovered Big Sexy Hair Powder Play -it’s like a dry shampoo/volumizer. That stuff is amazing! It gives volume back to my bald spots and gives my hair some texture! I highly recommend it for my fellow night-showerers or anyone who needs some more volume in their hair

Oh God, high five for one eyebrow that just takes more time to deal with. Eyebrows are my first priority, when I’m in a hurry, I skip blush, mascara and lipstick cause I can do that in my car.
Just wondering, have you tried tinting your eyebrows? I heard that some people dont even need to fill in their eyebrows anymore after getting it tinted. I am actually considering to get it now, but still not sure how will it work for me.
Hi Ann C,
I did tint them once about 15 years ago but it didn’t last long enough for me (a few weeks) and I still had to fill them in because they are in the sparse side naturally. Argh!
I wish I could do everything in the morning. Baby fine hair with a natural curl. Not curly enough for pretty ringlets, but too curly to be wash and go. I have to shower before bed so I don’t destroy my hair with the blow dryer.
My MORNING routine, though, is pretty easy:
1. Wash face with black African soap from Ghana. It looks like a big lump of poo, but it smells fresh and is great for my breakouts.
2. Use The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil Toner and moisturizer.
3. Stila Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer to even me out.
4. Primer on the eyelids. Usually Lorac, but elf and Stila are in the rotation.
5. Eye Shadow. Can’t pick a single color, but usually a neutral eye for work. NYX, Stila and Lorac are the usuals.
6. Laura Gellar brightening blush on the cheekbones.
7. Beat hair into submission. Curling iron if I’m in a hurry, flat iron if I have time.
8. Lip gloss on the way out the door.
The whole process usually takes 20-35 minutes, depending on how much time I give myself.
Daanielle´s last post…Wet’n'Wild Ice Ice Baby Collection
I wake up pretty ok. I do consider myself a morning person, but then again….I rarely had to get up at 5…couldn’t imagine having to do this daily…brrrrr!

I brush my teeth right away (I do also feel that the minty toothpaste helps the waking up process). Then I aply my moisturizer – Olay Daily Regenerist Serum. After a couple of minutes I do my foundation – MaxFactor – Lasting Performance, my concealer on any acne spots and under eye. Blush follows. I fill my eyebrows bith an angled cut brush and an a light brown eyeshadow – a NYX one. Then I line my eyes and aply mascara. I’ve almost given up using eyeshadow on a daily basis: never could pull it off…I have hooded eyes and eyeshadow seems a bit pointless to me, so I don’t even bother. I only wear proper eye makeup when I’ in the mood: maybe once or twice a week.
Then I have breakfast (usually someting sweet and coffee or green tea).
As I am ready to head out the door, I slap on lipstick – I love me a bold lip with a nude eye, especially now in the winter. Even my lipbalm is tinted in a bright red shade
…I take my shower in the evening. It relaxes me after a long day.
And I wash my hair 2 or 3 times a week, either in the evening or in the morning, depending on the weather (I don’t risk going out with my hair still a bit damp, I’ve suffered dearly after a few bad cases of sinusitis).
That’s about it.
I love the idea of this post. It’s so personal in a way. I will do it on my blog also, if you don’t mind!
Hugs from Romania!

Sheesh…so stressing! I so completely understand you. I have to think what I’m going to wear the next day when I go to bed the night before, so it pretty much is settled unless weather decides to act on us and I have to put on clothes as if I were going to the North Pole! Otherwise, I tend to coordinate my clothes to the nail polish I’m wearing (which I chose thinking on the clothes I could wear with it days before when I actually applied it).
So my routine would be something like this:
-shower
-applying body lotion/moisturizer
-applying moisturizer to my face Dior Hydra Life for pore reducing
-put on some clothes
-fix my hair on a pony tail, fix my bangs to the side and spray with salt waters spray to fix a bit
-eye primer
-brush teeth
-put on lip balm
-put on eye shadow that coordinates with either clothes or nail polish, not match but coordinate
-put on concealer
-put on foundation
-eyeliner
-fix eyebrows
-put on blush
-mascara last
-spray perfume…
-get my bag ready
-shoes/coat/scarf/gloves and all the chores of winter wear…

I must be the only morning person! LOL!
I get up at 4 surf the net, check emails, watch the news, get on FB to check my Cafe (cafeworld addict here….. I don’t have to be to work until 6:30, but I try to get there by 6:15)
Gather clothes
get in the tub (after brushing teeth)
Put on body cream (super dry skin)
Get dressed,
Fix hair (usually involves a pony or a bun)
makeup, Revlon Colorstay, shadow (loving Coastal Scents nude palette), liner, mascara, lip gloss)
Put on shoes, jewelry
Grab something for lunch/snack (usually a lean cuisine and some fruit) and a few bottles of water…
Out the door by 6!
I LOVE getting up in the morning and having no one bothering me! The best part of my day!
I feel your pain about getting up early. I get up at 5:40 am (not as early) and you’re right, it never gets easier. It’s my least favorite thing. Then I have a 1 hr 45 min commute each way. Hopefully one day that will change.
I actually don’t enjoy putting on my makeup, but it has to be done. I’m such a noob, I just learned how to line the top of my eyelid and it’s my new favorite. I use Mary Kay eyeliner and they’re the best I’ve used.
I have a bunch of Turbie Towels too to keep my hair up while I do my makeup and dry it. I don’t like blow drying my hair, but I’m lucky enough to not have to in the summer.
Great post! I look forward to more of these.
Hi Kelly,
Ugh with the commute! Mine is 2 1/2 hours per day so I can totally relate. I tried the Turbo Towels but they worked SO well my hair would dry in the front and be all crazy, haha!
Sometime the towels do work too well. I have to remember to take them off right after my makeup is done or I get a weird cowlick on the front of my hair.
The things we do for beauty, haha.
I don’t brush my hair. I only brush it after its washed, and them leave it be. My hair is almost always perfect. Beachy waves.
Makeup takes me about 10 minutes and prep takes maybe 5.
And I don’t excersize. Ever. If I do, it’s yoga. I just can’t do it. I’m super lucky to be naturally skinny (but I’m healthy!), and I know that won’t last, but for now I’ll enjoy my 15 minute routine. Nighttime is much longer!
Britni Rose´s last post…China Glaze Electropop Collection (Partial)
I work one of those awesome morning shifts that starts at 3am…so I’m awake at 1:45 and out the door by 2:20
So I shower and wash my hair at night–I’ll either blow dry it straight, braid it before bed, or air dry for volume…no matter what, I use TIGI’s Totally Baked after I shampoo (2x week). That cuts a hair routine out of my morning. I pluck my eyebrows at night, too.
So I wake up (first alarm, otherwise there is no saving me)…
Brush teeth, wash face. I use AcneFree and swear by it, having used almost every prescription under the sun.
Moisturize! Lots!
Cargo’s liquid foundation (sometimes I make my own tinted moisturizer by combing this and the previous)
Conceal zits if I have any, then pressed powder (still loving my L’oreal true match!).
Matte pinky-rose blush on the cheek bones.
Do a quick, natural eye color from my Stila In the Lights Palette, mascara, and then line my waterline.
Use dry shampoo as needed, if it’s a hair-washing day I pin my hair up.
That takes around 10 minutes…getting dressed is another 10, finding socks that match is a whole different challenge.
All things said, I feel like I look pretty put together for working at 3 in the morning.
This is such a fun post! It’s gotten me out of my lurking and into commenting, for one thing!
I have a hard time getting out of bed in the mornings, but once I’m out, I’m awake for the day – which is pretty nice!
My hair’s curly but surprisingly low maintenance (or maybe I’m just low maintenance about it). I basically shampoo and condition whenever I feel it needs it, which ends up being maybe twice a month for shampoo (for the oil at my roots) and then a dab of conditioner after shampooing. Most of my friends are grossed out when I tell them this, but my hair IS always clean!!! Curly hair is a whole different beast that most people don’t understand – it’s fun seeing people’s faces when I tell them about it though, haha. Right now I just comb it out in the shower and let it air dry. Soooo simple and I wouldn’t have it any other way…. but that said, I’m kind of afraid if I went to a lot of fuss about it and it turned out looking fabulous, that I’d never be able to go back :p
Skincare and makeup take ten or fifteen minutes altogether. While I’m waiting for skincare to sink in, I get dressed and usually waste some time on facebook :p I have hooded eyelids and haven’t quite figured out what to do with them, so I usually just wear eyeliner as any fancy eyeshadow I might attempt disappears! But you can always see eyeliner on my teensy tiny sliver of visible lid, haha. Deciding what to do with my lips takes at least two or three minutes…. I have so many lipsticks, glosses, balms, and pencils! Maybe not for some beauty fiends, but hooo boy could I do with a ban! I have all my makeup stored/semi-displayed on the shelves in my bedroom and it all looks quite nice and organised. I’ve sorted it by category, brand, AND size….. clearly need to find a new hobby haha! But the flat I’m in now (I’m a student) has amazing closets and mine has three sliding doors, floor-to-ceiling, one of which is a mirror! It makes getting dressed and doing my makeup SO fun
Lastly, I spend a few minutes deciding which scarf and jacket to wear (not to mention earrings), gathering my things, and wondering whether it’s worth it to make breakfast or just grab a cookie….. hehe!
Great post but now I know I’m super fast because I do a lot less than you. Thank God that my hair looks great after I woke up, so I don’t do anything with them not even brush them.
, a little mascara and a lipstain (I absolutely love this stuff) and I think this is it. Sometimes I switch it up with lip gloss or light eye shadow but I think this is it (but still quite a lot if I look back
)
In the morning I first brush my teeth, wash my face and put some cream all over it, than I get dressed up and when my cream is all settled I put a little foundation on, if there are some nasty spots I cover them with concealer, than comes one of my favorite part – filling in brows (I really like doing that) and if I’m already running late this is it, otherwise I like to use dark grey eye shadow as eye liner (it’s not so sharp and the line goes really close to the eyelashes so it looks like I have a lot of them
