A couple new NYX products out this winter are the Bronzer & Blusher Combo and Highlight & Contour Powder.

The Bronzer/Blusher Combos come in 5 different shades (Bali, Ibiza, Marbella, Phi Phi Island and Bora Bora) and the Highlight/Contour comes in one shade.

Both come in a really nice white compact with black detailing and a mirror inside. I have to say I love these compacts, I think they look really cool.

Ibiza

Ibiza has a medium bronzer on the one side and a very pretty flattering slightly shimmery candy pink blush on the other. I think these shades work really well together and I like that neither are too dark or weird for pale skinned folks like myself! I do especially love the blush though, I admit.

Highlight & Contour Powder

The Highlight & Contour Powder is a little bit of a departure from anything I normally would use. The Contour shade is a somewhat deep, warm brown and the highlight shade is a pale white.

Now what might you use this for you ask? You can use it alongside your cheekbones to give your cheeks more of a defined look or alongside your nose to make it look more narrow. Basically anything you want to highlight or “carve out” you can use this for.

Honestly I never bother with contouring because I just don’t ever feel the need to do it, but I do like to highlight my cheekbones and temples.

Availability: NYX and Cherry Culture.

Pricing: $9.00.

Would you try either of these? Do you normally contour or do you just not even bother?

  • I’ve been looking for a highlight/contour duo. I’ll keep an eye out for this one at the store. :)

  • I love the idea of the highlight/contour duo, but that contour is gonna be far, far too dark to use for most people. And those with darker skin that can use the contour, the highlight will be too light for.

Its a good attempt by NYX but I think they need to maybe have a few different highlight/contour colours for different skin tones.

  • Ibiza looks interesting! I usually do a bit of contouring (with MAC Harmony, or Bobbi Brown Bali Brown just to bring a bit more color to my face, because I find my face a little “flatter” after finishing powder), but the two shades of Highlight & Contour Powder looks respectively a bit too dark/too light. The highlight shade will probably look a bit ashy on my NC30 warm-toned skin!

These are cool compacts. I’d buy the bronzer/blush duo. The contouring/highlighter duo I doubt I’d buy. The contouring powder seems to dark. I usually use the bronzer for a contour.

Those compacts *are* really cute! It’s not normally a thing I use, but I think I’d totally buy a contouring/highlighting duo if only the contouring color weren’t way, WAY too dark for my pale pink self.

I don’t get it. I think that highlight/contour would be perfect for anyone. It’s not like you have to cake it on, you know. You use a light hand, just a tap of the brush, for the contour if you are pale; and the same for the highlight if you are dark skinned. You can build from there. I would think through practice you’d know exactly how much you need. I really want this one!
