Ready for yet another winter MAC collection? The MAC Daphne Guinness collection is “a window into my imagination” according to Daphne Guinness.

In case you don’t know who she is, she’s a fashion icon and artist. And if you are wondering about the name Guinness and if it’s any relation to the beer company, yes. She is the daughter of brewery heir Jonathan Guinness.

This collection isn’t too large, rather it consists of 21 pieces for eyes, lips and nails.

Blush Ombre in Azalea Blossom

The Blush Ombre’s come in two colors, Azalea Blossom and the mid-tone violet Vintage Grape.

Azalea Blossom is a light cool pink color with gorgeous lavender ombre effect. So pretty I hated to ruin it by sticking my finger in it, but it had to be done! The resulting color is a very pretty cool toned pink, perfect especially for cool-toned folks! Great pigmentation and the colors all come together to create this color.

Interior Life Quad (clockwise: Stratus, Bruised Sky, Interior Life, Heather Belles)

The Interior Life Quad is the only palette in the collection and it consists of four colors.

  • Stratus is a very light pale pink matte. Not very pigmented.
  • Bruised Sky is a deep purple/grey satin. Gorgeous color but I had to really work to get it to show up without primer.
  • Interior Life is a medium slate grey/blue veluxe pearl. I also love this color but had to work to get it this deep also.
  • Heather Belles is a dark carbon satin. A bit chalky and not that saturated.

The two middle ones are definitely my favs here. Beautiful colors but I don’t understand why nearly every MAC quad that comes out has such mediocre pigmentation! It’s really bizarre.

Warp Speed, Red Dwarf, Approaching Storm

The other Pro Longwear Creme not shown here is called Seasoned Plum and it’s a mid-tone lavender.

  • Warp Speed is a pale silver color. Looks very futuristic and definitely not very wearable for the average person.
  • Red Dwarf is a nice pinkish/red color. Would look good on a variety of skin tones I think.
  • Approaching Storm is a deep pink rose/red/brown color.

Borealis, Narciccus

There are four total Cremesheen Glass colors in this collection. The two not shown are Japanese Spring which is a pale dirty pink and Richly Revered which is a deep brown plum.

  • Borealis is a very pale greyish pink with iridescent sparkles. It’s SUPER pale though basically invisible. I love the concept, but wish it showed up more on my lips.
  • Narcissus is a medium lavender/pink color. It’s really shiny and a fresh looking spring-like color. Love it.

Aurora, Nebula

There are three Pigments in this collection and the one not shown is Circa Plum which is a dirty mid-tone lavender.

  • Aurora is a gorgeous taupe with slight rose pink tone to it. Super pigmented and frosty.
  • Nebula is a dark greyed out brown with pearly bits in it. This is a beautiful deep color.

MAC Daphne Guinness Nail Lacquer MAC Daphne Guinness Collection for Winter 2011 Swatches, Photos & Review
Nail Lacquer

There are three Nail Lacquers in this collection.

  • Endless Night is a pale grey pink with iridescent pearl. It’s really pale and you need three coats, but it is a pretty very soft looking color.
  • Hyperion is a light grey, blue, green creme. This is a beautiful subdued color but the formula was a huge pain the the butt. It was thick, yet still ran all over my cuticles. I had issues with cuticle drag and needed three coats to get it completely even. Pain!
  • Blueblood is a deep eggplant purple creme. It’s rich, super shiny and dark and I only needed two coats. Great thin, even formula with this one.

Overall:

My favorites in this collection were the Pigments and the Blush Ombre. I liked the Cremesheen Glass in Narcissus as well. The eyeshadow quad once again wasn’t pigmented enough for what I would expect from MAC. The polishes were just ok overall, nothing we haven’t seen before though. The Pro Longwear Cremes are so moisturizing and easy to apply, but I didn’t love these particular colors.

Availability: MAC on Dec 26th in North America and January elsewhere.

Pricing: $15.00-38.00.

What do we think about this collection. Anything calling your name?

-Kelly

  • WHY does mac keep putting out these terrible, unwearable frost lipsticks?! Warp speed is awful. However, Narcissus is beautious!

  • I’m disappointed that the quad isn’t pigmented. I used to love MAC quads but lately they just aren’t cutting it.
Would Endless Nights be good as a top coat for another polish? It looks too sheer for my taste even with three coats.

Hm. “Warp Speed” lip color looks suspiciously similar to “Eloquent Air” from their recent Winter Whatever collection — is that the exact same thing in a different tube, with a different name?

And LOVE “Endless Night,” but I’ve got something almost identical (except it’s got glitter). Agree about “Borealis” — what a shame that one doesn’t look more silvery-grey when applied! I LOVE weird lip gloss colors…
