Finger Paints Special Effects Collection for Winter 2011 Swatches & Review. Oh and Giveaway!!
The next big trend now that we have gone through tons and tons of crackles and then magnetic polishes is definitely flake glitter. It seems as though everyone is now coming out with their own version (more coming soon that haven’t yet been announced yet 
) and I am NOT complaining about this trend! Flake glitters are my absolute favorite “effect” in a nail polish. To me they are better than duo-chromes, multi-chromes, holographics, regular glitters, bar glitters, crackles, magnetics, etc. I LOVE them. I love the irregular pattern of them and love how they make your nails looks like they are glowing. Plus they are usually much easier to remove than traditional glitter.
Finger Paints jumped on board with their new Special Effects Collection only available at Sally Beauty Supply starting in January.
This collection includes five different flake glitters: Asylum, Flecked, Twisted, Motley and Flashy. They are all set in a clear base, so are best used over a black or dark color. I used two coats of the flake glitters over a black base for all photos. You can get a good amount of flake coverage though using just one coat, but I prefer two.
Below are some macro bottle shots where I turned up the contrast so you can really see the flakes inside.

Asylum includes mostly red and blue flakes, but since they are holographic they do change colors to orange, green and purple.

Flecked is the only one that mostly stays one color, but it’s gorgeous nonetheless. It’s a beautiful vivid green shade that flashes blue in certain lighting. Nails Inc. The Wyndham is very similar to this so if you already have that, I would say skip this one.
Twisted (macro bottle)
Twisted
Twisted has the most colors in it and changes the most. It includes gold, blue, purple, red, green and so on. It’s a rainbow of colors and my favorite one. SO pretty!
Motley (macro bottle)
Motley
Motley is a green and blue color and it doesn’t really change. What you see is what you get. I love this one, it may be my second favorite one here.
Flashy (macro bottle)
Flashy
Flashy is probably the one that is closest to other flake glitters out there. It’s a red/orange/green glitter. This is very similar if not a dupe for Nails Inc. The Donmar and Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure. I say if you have either of those you don’t need this one.

I got a KitchenAid mixer last Christmas and I love love love it! I got it in buttercup yellow and it makes me happy every time I look at it.
I love my KitchenAid too! I got it a couple of years ago. I wanted bright green, but I got red as a present and I sure wasn’t going to turn it down!

My favorite this year is that my mom had surgery on Dec 22 to have a morphine pump implanted, because she has severe scoliosis that causes her back all sorts of horrible chronic pain. It looks like the pump is starting to help her and that’s just the best gift my family could have gotten this year.
Barring that, the100% cotton pink jersey sheets for my full sized bed, that my awesome mom got me, are my second fav gift this year.

My favorite Christmas present was a picture frame my Dad made for me and a certificate from my hubby for a new tattoo! Our NYE plans aren’t anything over the top–just hanging out with some friends. What makes it extra special though is it’s our first New Years together out of the last 4 years. He’s stationed in TX with the Army and I just recently moved here from OH so these are our first holidays we get to spend together, not just virtually together through Skype. I love getting to start our own holiday traditions together!

My plans for new years are that I usually party with my friends on new years eve and then new years day I eat black eyed peas and corn bread with my grandparents for good luck all year!
My favorite present this year was a new “Lid Bronzer” palette by Pop. I have used my old one down to nearly empty pans and I just couldn’t justify spending the cash on a new one when I had other shadows. Hooray for Mom! It’s nice to know you are never too old for your Momma to indulge you a little!
Unfortunately my New Year’s plans include WORKING since it’s month/year end. But I’m having dinner out with my family, the best way to spend it.
For New Years I’m staying home and being far away from the people who go overboard with the drinking.
I’ll be spending New Years with my hubby. We never do anything crazy by going out but I do make us a nice dinner and we settle in with a bottle of wine and champagne and watch a couple movies and then watch the ball drop. It may not be super spectacular to others but it’s our way to ring in the new year together.

I am going to a Venetian masquerade ball with my husband and best friend and her husband. I usually have to work, so I am super excited this year!
I’m really stoked about the two Obols I got for Christmas–the never soggy cereal bowl. It’s divided and one section can be used to place your chips or cereal so you can swoop it down into your salsa or milk or whatever.
I love the flakie top coats! I’m tired of the crackle….so over it! NYE plans: going out with my DH and ringing in the new year.
My mom got me a new yoga mat and carrying strap for it. I’ve been sick since Christmas, so I haven’t gotten a chance to use it yet, but I can’t wait!

My favorite Christmas present was a handmade cloche hat with a giant black flower on the side from my aunt! My family is rather terrible at giving each other gifts, so normally we picked them out ourselves. well my surprise was a pair of sennheiser headphones after only maybe saying once that my pair headphones were falling apart. I was even saving money to purchase a pair of headphones myself. Couldn’t have asked for a better surprise!
Well, this year I realized how good my friends know me: most of them gifted me with nail polish, even if some of them don’t know about my blog

I was so hoping my favorite Christmas present would be some glitter polish, and dropped six thousand hints to that effect, but my husband is dense so I got a DVD instead.
Ugh, I DO NOT WANT to be reduced to exchanging Christmas lists! when it gets to that point you might as well just not even bother and instead everyone just goes and buys themselves what they want. But I’m starting to feel like this is the only way to not get Christmas presents that could’ve been bought for anybody and not for ME.

We really did not have a Christmas this year. Our 11 year old Schnauzer, Gellybean, died in my daughter’s arms. He had cancer and it was our first Christmas without him.
Gellybean used to sit at my feet when I did my “polishing”. He was a very good judge.

This year was the best Christmas EVER! My son is 3 and was so enthusiastic about the whole Santa thing and even about giving presents… really put an ol’ Scrooge like me in the holiday spirit. =)
Unfortunately I work New Years Eve so I won’t be doing too much. I’ll have to figure out what my husband is up to and meet up with him after, hoping that won’t be too late! As for Christmas, I finally got an e-reader. I’ve been putting it off for so long since I do love my hard copy books but since this one is purely an e-reader instead of a tablet it’s actually nice to read on. I loved all my Christmas presents…what’s so special to me is that my eldest daughter takes such care to pick great stocking stuffers for my stocking. Sure beats when my hubby used to fill my stocking– he poured a bag of snack-size butterfingers in it one year (his favorite…lol). She got me ManBug and Hermosa Surfer Girl from BB Couture, some goodies from Lush, some Glitter Rock Sparkling Lip Gloss from Urban Decay, as well as lots of other goodies! She takes a lot of care to make sure it’s stuff I’d like– she’s a gem! (And hubby is happy to let her do it and just kick in some bucks–lol)

On New Year’s Eve my husband and I are going to a wonderful party that some friends of ours throw every year. We always have a blast. And one great thing is that they only live two blocks away from us, so we walk there and back- that means we can drink!
In the past when it has snowed like crazy, we run and slide and generally act like fools all the way home. Then the next day is the Rose Parade- SO cool. Great way to start the year!

My favourite Christmas present was a terrible present, in all honesty. It was not my favourite present for what it was, but rather, for what it ended up getting me, which was a publication and one hundred dollars.
Allow me to explain.
Several years ago, when I was young girl in high school (and wow, what a long time ago that was!), I received a Christmas gift from my family. At this time, I was a teenager, a very disillusioned teenager, who thought that perhaps, this Christmas, I would get something fabulous! My hopes were, of course, dashed, by the opening of my Christmas gift. It was… a clock. And not even a digital clock! No, this was an analog clock of all things, an analog clock that taunted me with its incessant tick-tock, tick-tock. Horribly dismayed, I removed its batteries and stashed the horrid thing in my closet for what I hoped would be forever.
A year or so later, a youth newsletter was asking for entries for a contest. The theme was the best/worst Christmas present you had ever received. I wrote about the dastardly tale of my clock, and ended up winning the top prize of $100. All thanks to that annoying, analog clock. Which is now hanging in my younger brother’s room, complete with its perennial ticking noise.

The favorite gift I received is my new Kate Spade iPhone cover. It has a criss-cross pattern of all my favorite bright colors. It’s so bright and cheery, I just love it!
The gifts I enjoyed giving the most were a couple of skillets to my husband who was thrilled to get them. I just get tickled about how much he loves kitchen things. It’s sweet. He was surprised but had such admiration for them that it’s just cute.

Plans for New Year’s: Go to my aunt’s house with the whole family and eat a bunch of tamales!
My friends all decided to get me multiple bottles of polish for Christmas, so over the last 2 weeks I may have accumulated…33 bottles. Am I complaining? Not even a little bit.
(Also–tonight I put a matte topcoat over Essie’s “Shine of the Times” and it looks pretty insane. Definitely worth trying if you’re the lucky one who wins these flakies!)
Myy favorite Christmas gift was a really nice wood bed tray. It’s huge and really well made. I wanted it so I can sit in bed with my laptop and read my blogs. It would be nice if someone could serve me some breakfast in bed
My New Year’s Eve will probably consist of sitting on a couch (either ours or a friends) and eating too much and watching movies. Not exciting in the least but it works for me.
I’ll be attending a wedding on New Year’s Day, so I’ll probably be sleeping or hanging out with the family on New Year’s Eve because I get to be in one of my favorite places, Florida!!
My favorite Christmas present was the entire OPI Pedicure Starter Kit my husband purchased from me! A 6 piece full size set because “I do so well with taking care of my hands & nails already that I should be able to do just as well on my feet.” He’s such a sweetheart!

My favorite present for Christmas this year was having Christmas lunch at our house for the final time as we get to move house next week!

Ok so I totally didn’t expect to get much for Christmas, but I got the best gift ever!!!! I got nearly 20 nail polishes from different family members. OPI, Essie, Orly, and Avon matte finish polishes… Although my collection is already quite extensive, reading this post has me wanting Finger Paints Special Effects polish asap!!! So as soon as I get off work today I’ll be headed to Sally’s to pick up some so I can get my NYE mani together!

I will celebrate the new years with good food!
Looks like New Years will be me, my dogs, my brothers’ dogs, my parents, my brothers, my middle brother’s wife, their two babies, and my little brother’s baby. It’ll be loud but, very unlike the loud New Years of old (when I used to drink my guy friends under the table). Honestly, I’d much rather hang out with my dogs than in a bar.
Wow! So neat to hear that more flakies are on the horizon!!
My fave thing about Christmas was being able to buy my mom some sweaters and cool makeup that she doesn’t normally buy for herself.
My plans for New Year’s are simple – I’m spending some quality time with my boyfriend snuggled up at home watching our favourite movies!
My favourite present that I got for Christmas this year was a Clarisonic MIA from my Aunt! Lots of beauty products that I want and desperately long for aren’t available where I live (Singapore), including the Clarisonic MIA, so I was really excited and thankful when I opened my gift! She got it for me when she went overseas
My favourite Christmas gift was from my parents – I got an adorable King Charles Cavalier puppy! I’ve wanted one for so long and I’ve proven to them that I can commit to a pet and be a responsible owner so they decided to get me one
I am so grateful!
For new years I’m getting together with my friends and we’re going to do random holiday things like roast chestnuts and decorate cookies…and then we want to start a tradition and make a time capsule!!

What a fanbtastic set of flakey effects polishes, and no way I can get them given I am in the UK.
My plans for the new year: Well, on 5th Jan my fiance and I complete the purchase of our new house, and can start getting it done up ready to move into. Its a 16th Century farmhouse, so plenty of scope for ‘doing up’!

This new years I just plan to stay at home with my family. I usually go out every year with friends but I think it’s great to spend time with family!
My New Years Eve plans involve working from 11am til 7pm, then heading to Manhattan with friends and family and going bar hopping away from Times Square. We always stay inside, so this year we’re doing something different.
I’m planning on a fun fondue party with friends! Really looking forward to it!

My favorite Christmas present was my Nikon D3100! I fully intend on using it to professionalize my blog and my photographic life. I am attending a party with some great friends tomorrow night. Oh man, if I won this contest it would be AMAZING. I love love love these polishes and I don’t live anywhere near a Sally’s Beauty Store.

My favorite Christmas present was the one I got from my daughter this year. She wrote me a story about some of her favorite memories of stuff we did together. That meant so much to me. It showed me that just being with her and sharing something with her means just as much to her as it does to me.
My favorite Christmas present was a Yo Gabba Gabba Brobee cuddle pillow. It was totally unexpected and I was shocked that my friends knew me well enough to get it. I am pretty sure my face lit up like the 5 year olds who the pillow was probably made for.
For New Year’s, I’m going to eat healthy, treat my body right and get my priorities in order. This year I’ve been caring about all the wrong things and in 2012, I hope to completely change myself for the better.
No plans for NYE because I’m not feeling well today. I guess I’ll spend the evening with my husband and daughter at home, and I’ll watch some movies after dinner.
The best gift I received this Christmas has been a Sony Vaio laptop. I love it!

My dad went into the hospital on November 21, 2011 so we weren’t expecting to celebrate Christmas this year. As on December 19th we still didn’t know whether he was coming home or not for the 24th/25th.
We got a message on December 20th from my mom while we were at work that said he was getting out on December 21st! We were all excited and actually began our Christmas shopping then. We were happy to have him home and we wanted to make his Christmas a good one. He cried when we gave him his presents cause he hadn’t bought anything for us . . . we made sure to tell him not to worry and to remember all the times he had bought us presents when we were kids and we hadn’t given him anything. We told him that him being home was the best present.
