China Glaze Eye Candy for Holiday 2011 Swatches, Photos & Review

China Glaze Eye Candy for holiday 2011 is a new collection of six glitters.

Yep, glitters. Again. I feel like all I have swatched the last month are uber glittery nail polishes, and to be frank I have seen enough!

That’s not to say there aren’t some great ones here. I am just more of a shimmer kind of person. ;)

Coverage with these was really quite good. I used two coats for nearly all of them and was satisfied.

China Glaze Blonde Bombshell
Blonde Bombshell

Blonde Bombshell is a polish with micro gold glitter, small bar glitter and larger gold hexagonal glitter. I love this color gold (cool-toned) and really liked how well this covered.

China Glaze Lorelei s Tiara
Lorelei’s Tiara

Lorelei’s Tiara has small silver glitter and larger blue/teal hexagonal glitter. I really like how much blue glitter is included in this. It’s not too sparse and you get a good amount when applying. Great coverage and cool color combo!

China Glaze Material Girl
Material Girl

Material Girl is a soft rose pink with micro pink glitter, small pink glitter and larger hexagonal glitter. I am kind of “meh” about this color for some reason, but it also had great coverage.

China Glaze Marry A Millionaire
Marry A Millionaire

Marry A Millionaire is a color that includes purple and pink micro glitter and green and yellow bar glitter. While I like the way this looks in the bottle, I didn’t love it on the nail. This was two coats though, so good coverage.

China Glaze Love Marilyn
Love Marilyn

Love Marilyn has small red glitter and larger hexagonal silver glitter. Good coverage at two coats.

China Glaze Some Like It Haute
Some Like It Haute

Some Like It Haute has charcoal grey and silver small glitter with larger holographic hexagonal glitter. This was my favorite one of the bunch, thought it did require three coats.

Overall:

For glitters they’re…well glittery! There are some good combos here, but they aren’t super easy to work with. But what glitters are? They are messy to remove and definitely not smooth without a good thick top coat layer or two.

Availability: Online.

Pricing: $3-5.

What do you think about Eye Candy? Are you over glitters this holiday season yet?

-Kelly

Ohh, I need Some Like It Haute and Lorelei’s Tiara.

Does Some Like It Haute look like Orly – Rock Solid?? :-)

      Hi Danny,

I haven’t yet tried Rock Solid yet though I do have it.

I’m sooo excited to get these. I die from joy when I see glitter. :D

These are cute, but they look so bumpy! Do they eat topcoat or does it make them shiny and smooth?

Not sure I haven’t worn any with a top coat, sorry!

Some like it Haute is amazing!!! Gonna be my vacation Pedi color on a couple of weeks

  • November 15, 2011

I am a glitter fiend so of course I’m lemming all six of these. :D I really love Lorelei’s Tiara! It’s so especially pretty! I didn’t think these would be out until December or January so I guess I need to keep my eye out for them.

    Two quick questions:

    – Why are some caps silver and other caps black? I thought all the polishes in this collection had silver caps.

    – Is the Eye Candy Collection going to be available everywhere (nail supplies, etailers, etc.)? Or is it only going to be available at Sally Beauty Supply?

Thanks so much for the lovely swatches! <3

      Hi I Drink Nail Polish,

I’m not sure why two of the caps are black. I believe Eye Candy has been on the retail sites online for a few weeks now. Welcome!

I have a lot of glitters, so I probably won’t get these. I haven’t started wearing my seasonal sparklies yet!

I like those black specks(?) in the Blonde Bombshell. I think it would look good over a black base.

      Hi Dee,

There are no black specks, that’s just the camera flash reflection off the gold glitter. It’s all gold.

I like Lorelei’s Tiara, but yeah, I’m over glitters. Bring back the shimmers!!

  • November 15, 2011

These are really pretty! I like some of these, like Blonde Bombshell and Some Like It Haute. Others are not really my taste, I don’t like how lately companies have been putting large silver hex glitter into every polish.

I am with you, Kelly. I love glitters, but I am all glittered out right now. I actually would love to see more shimmers and metallics out than just glitters. These are very pretty, but I feel I have enough glitters in my stash right now.

What I would like to find is a beautiful, rich, warm gold with not too much orange in it. Any suggestions?

  • November 15, 2011

I’m with you. Up to the neck in glitter! Lorelei’s Tiara looks pretty though, but I’ll most probably pass. Too much of anything can’t be good!

Marry A Millionaire is the only one that really stands out to me. I’d use it as a layering polish. And Love Marilyn reminds me a lot of something straight out of the OPI The Muppets Collection (Gettin’ Miss Piggy with It).

On one of the other blogs I read (I don’t remember which off hand) does compare the two, but they said they liked China Glaze’s more. I think there’s more silver in the China Glaze?

I’m not too glittered out because I’ve been fairly judicious (for a polish fiend :)) with my purchasing. And good thing, too, because I really like these! Hopefully I have Love, Marilyn coming to me as part of an online order (that is taking forever and making me nervous, but anyways) and I’m planning to hit up Ulta later today and get a few more. Lorelei’s Tiara is the obvious stand-out for me but Blond Bombshell, Material Girl and/or Marry a Millionaire are more than welcome to join my collection as well!

Took me 4 Ultas but Lorelei, Blond Bombshell, and Millionaire did indeed get to come home with me :). Ulta has a buy 2 get 1 free sale on CG and I had a coupon so it worked out to be comparable to the online price, but they were charging $8 each for these which seems ridiculous to me given the going price for CG elsewhere.

  • November 15, 2011

Some Like It Haute is my favourite as well. ;) I also like the Lorelei’s Tiara – the blue glitter looks nice. Thanks for the lovely swatches!

I don’t know if I’m disappointed or relieved, but I don’t think I want any of these! The only one that tempts me is Loralei’s Tiara (and mostly because it’s a nod to one of my favorite movies of all time), but I have a Wet & Wild polish that is VERY similar – exact same combo of glitters, but probably would require about 4 coats for opacity.

    • November 16, 2011
      Grace

Sorry, it’s not a Wet & Wild – I checked my stash and it’s a Sally Hansen. It’s called Ice Queen, and it’s MUCH less dense. I doubt it would ever build to opacity… so… now maybe I do need Loralei’s Tiara.

They’re gorgeous! Can’t wait to get my hands on them!

Lorelei’s Tiara, Love Marilyn & Some Like It Haute are quite pretty for glitters but like you I’m a little glittered out. They can be nice but in moderation, I’d rather see shimmers as well.

I’m so tired of glitters right now! Although I did just get my Models Own Beetlejuice collection yesterday! I can’t wait to see your swatches of the collection and hear what you think -of I personally love them!

  • November 15, 2011

I got them all. I wasn’t going to get the gold because it wasn’t all that unique to my stash. But since they were buy 2 get one free at Ulta, I went ahead and got it.

They look wonderful on you. This post is very Christmas-y.

Just got Some Like It Haute in the mail today (from victoriasnailsupply, I think). It really is GORGEOUS in person. Also, I think there’s a new WetNWild out that’s a dupe or near-dupe for it….but I can never find the special WNW collections in my local stores, and CG’s formula is so consistently good that I’d rather go with theirs. It’s super spectacular in person, and the grittiness level is basically comparable to their “It’s Alive” halloween collection shade, if you’re familiar with that one. Which means “kinda gritty, but so gorgeous I don’t care.” Using one coat over a solid or shimmer charcoal works great and minimizes the roughness.

Lorelei’s Tiara is really unique! WTG for swatching all these glitters :)

I usually jump at the chance for glitters. Truthfully I really have a ton of them. I feel the only one I don’t have something like it is Material Girl. There have been so many glitter collections lately. I probably won’t buy any of these.

  • November 16, 2011

Great photos! I bought the whole collection and they were $8 each BUT Ulta had them at buy 2 get 1 free, so it was ok that they were priced so high ;) I love the collection and anything to do with marilyn!

I think that there are definitely a bunch of dupe glitters out right now, one that will fit anyone’s budget…

Lorelei’s Tiara has an exact dupe in Sally Hansen’s new Gem Crush line called Showgirl Chic. I’d seen the swatches for LT online and was going to wait for these to show up in my nail supply stores, but then I saw the Sally Hansen line at CVS last night with a BOGO 1/2 off sale and picked up Showgirl.

There’s also a red and silver glitter like Love Marilyn called Cha-Ching! in the Gem Crush collection which I didn’t pick up as it reminded me of the Muppets polish.

Some Like It Haute has 2 dupes out there that I have seen recently… One in Gem Crush, the other in the Walgreens Exclusive Wet N Wild Ice Baby collection, called Glitz Gal and Diamond In The Rough, respectively. The WNW is probably sold out by now if it came to you, as it was on the shelf at my two Walgreens for less than a week here in Orange County, but it seems like Gem Crush is just now showing up on shelves this week.

Material Girl finds her twin with Razzle Dazzle from Gem Crush.

If you can’t find one over the other on any of these, you can totally get away with the other brand. I’m somewhat glittered out myself, but it’s nice to have them in our collections for the future. I was desperate to find Eye Candy for Lorelei and Millionaire, but now that I’ve got the SH dupe of LT, I don’t really need to freak out looking for it. Just a little help for any ladies who need other options :)

None of the CG Eye Candy(s) as shown up locally (my local Ulta’s are NOT about nail polish!) I was considering ordering a few online and then stumbled on the Sally Hansens this afternoon at a Walgreens. Picked up several and am happy.

I have a question. Why are some of the nail polish tops silver and some are black in this collection?

    I love your blog!

    • November 18, 2011

      Hi laura,

I’m not really sure. Mine were press samples so maybe that’s why?

I got marry a millionaire and it has the silver top. Oh well.
