New from Revlon! Colorburst Lip Butter Swatches, Photos & Review

Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter

Whilst perusing a local Rite Aid not too long ago, I spotted a new Revlon display packed with some super cool looking translucent tubes. Upon further inspection I saw they were a newfangled product called Colorburst Lip Butter. Call me what you will, but anything with the word “butter” in it usually piques my interest! :)

I stood there for probably a good 7 or 8 minutes picking colors up, putting others down, picking more up before I decided on the six colors I bought. There were at least 15 or 20 colors I believe. HARD to choose! Luckily for me they were on sale at the time.

As mentioned, they come in a nice translucent tube with a quilted pattern on them. The tops are clear so you can see the color you are getting. Bonus!

They look like a lipstick, but feel more like a lip balm. But they aren’t as sheer as one might expect from something called a lip butter. They do contain a lot of moisturizing ingredients such as jojoba seed oil, shea butter and mango butter.

Cupcake is a pale blue-based pink.
Cotton Candy is a light shimmery pink.
Sweet Tart is a medium warm pink.

Peach Parfait, Tutti, Frutti, Cherry Tart

Peach Parfait is a somewhat sheer shimmery peachy nude.
Tutti Frutti is a medium bright coral.
Cherry Tart is a bright slightly shimmery warm red.

As you can see, most of these aren’t as sheer as you might think. In fact I got really great pigmentation out of all except Cotton Candy and Peach Parfait, but those were still obviously colored.

They feel pretty nice and easy going on. They do feel moisturizing and non-sticky, and they have a nice shine to them also. There is a very slight vanilla scent and no taste.

Overall:

I really like the ones I tried out. I like that they aren’t so sheer that it feels like you are just putting clear gloss on. I also like that they are different enough in color that they don’t all look pretty much the same.

Availability: Rite Aid.

Pricing: $7.49 (I got them on sale for $4.49).

What do you think about these? Any colors you might try out?

-Kelly

Ahh, I knew I was going to want all of them! Thank you for the swatches, they’ve helped me narrow down my list a teensy bit.

Thank you for the swatches … I’m on the hunt to find them in Ontario!!!

15-20 colours? Wow, that’s a lot! Looks like you picked up some great ones though. I’ll definitely be on the lookout for these next time I’m at the drugstore.

I have several of these – I wore Lollipop all last week and I also have Red Velvet which is a gorgeous Fall/Winter red! I’m loving these – quick for on the go and keep the lips very moisturized.

Sandy, I can’t stop wearing Lollipop either! Such an awesome pink. Guess we have similar taste – I got Red Velvet too. It’s the perfect red for me. I’m on the hunt for additional colors. They hold up well and really moisturize!

I now I have 10 of these, and I’ve abandoned all other lip products in favor of rotating through them – finally something moisturizing that is also fairly pigmented! I have easily chapped lips, so that is no easy feat! I will pick up all colors eventually, if I can get a good enough deal…

I’ve heard such glowing reviews of these but none with as many swatches as yours. I love the sheer wash of color! It’s not too sheer, but I can see how a couple can definitely be “your lips but better” shades that I can get a lot of use in. Only sad thing is I haven’t seen it anywhere here in Toronto. Any idea when these will be available in Canada (or if it ever will)? Much appreciated, thanks Kelly! :)

As a faithful reader, I too, am glad you like anything with the word ‘butter’ in it. :) I think I do too.

Interesting about the pigmentation of these. Would never have guessed it was that deep.

Oh yay! Thanks so much for swatching these — I saw them in RiteAid the other day when I went in to buy a bazillion bottles of clear nail polish. They looked so tempting, even though past experience tells me I won’t be crazy about Revlon lip things. I might have to pick up Peach Parfait and Cherry Tart…

These look great! I’ve especially been wanting to try out a coral lipstick/gloss and Tutti Frutti seems like it’ll fit my needs quite well. ^_^

Those look awesome! They kinda remind me of the Dior and Clinique glosses.
Are Revlon and Clinique still owned by the same company? I believe they were years & years ago…

    • November 1, 2011

      Hi ReaderRita,

Nope, they are their own publicly traded company now.

I’ve only seen these at one drugstore so far and the display was picked clean of all but the lightest, pinkest, and palest colors. Maybe I’ll get lucky and find Tutti, Fruitti or Cherry Tart somewhere.

Thank you for the swatches! Makes it easier to narrow down a massive display. :)

Thanks for the review and swatches. I adore the other ColorSensational products – including the lipsticks – from Revlon. I might have to give these a try.

Thank you for the lovely swatches and well-taken pics:) I, too, am reminded of the clinique and dior lippies. Anyone find these in the Dallas/Plano area?

I’m loving these so far and want to buy more! Except mine look WAY more pigmented than yours for some reason? I’m shocked that people are commenting on how deep they look in your photos….my Cherry Tart is BRIGHT red on my lips, and not sheer in any way. It’s pretty much like a glossy lipstick on me. :)

  • November 4, 2011

Ohhhh I really like Tutti Frutti, I’ll have to run down and see if they are still on sale. $7.49 seems like a bit much to me

  • November 5, 2011

I love these. I have Red Velvet (my latest purchase), Crème Brule, Sugar Plum, Berry Smoothie, Peach Parfait, Pink Truffle and Fig Jam.

I bought Candy Apple and I adore it. It’s a great “I just had a cherry popsicle” color without being too bold. The consistency really is like a lip balm, too. The only issue I’m having is that I can’t tell from most of the swatches I’ve seen which colors are shimmery and which are creme (I’m not a shimmery fan).

I just picked up my first four…Cotton Candy, Pink Truffle, Candy Apple & Creme Brulee. I had a coupon & CVS was having a BOGO, so not a bad price! I love how smooth they apply & they all are flattering to my medium skin tone. Now I’m obsessed with finding at least 6 other wanted colors. The packaging is very nice, they have great pigmentation but don’t last very long. Still, I love this new formula & say try them!
