New! Nails Inc. Special Effects Overglaze Polish Swatches, Photos & Review

Looking for some cool new nail sets to use your Sephora Friends & Family discount on (which is until Nov 2nd)? Look no further than the new Nails Inc. Special Effects Overglaze Polish!

These come in three different sets that each contain two polishes.

  • The Old Vic Collection – includes Black Taxi (black creme) and The Old Vic (blue flake glitter top coat)
  • The Donmar Collection – includes Plum Black (plum creme) and The Donmar (red/gold flake glitter top coat)
  • The Wyndham Collection – includes Teal Black (teal creme) and The Wyndham (green flake glitter top coat)

I couldn’t decide which one of these to get because I absolutely adore flake glitter, so I bought all three!

Nails Inc Chelsea
Chelsea

Chelsea is a very deep, dark plum/red creme. Great coverage and I used two coats. Great formula, no complaints whatsoever.

Nails Inc Chelsea The Donmar
The Donmar over Chelsea

The Donmar is a red/gold flake glitter that is holographic. It changes from red to gold to green.  The formula was really nice, not too thick at all and easy to apply two coats and not have it get thick or clumpy. Looks amazing, like hot glowing lava!

Nails Inc Kensington
Kensington

Kensington is a very dark teal blue creme. Nearly black. Great formula and again, two coats.

Nails Inc Kensington The Wyndham
The Wyndham over Kensington

The Wyndham is a green flake glitter. Amazing!!! I love this one it’s just so bright and glowy. No issues with formula here either.

Nails Inc Black Taxi
Black Taxi

Black Taxi is a black creme. Great formula, two coats.

Nails Inc Black Taxi The Old Vic
The Old Vic over Black Taxi

The Old Vic is a blue flake glitter. This one gives the appearance of two different tones of blue when it’s on the nail. Really pretty. It did seem the least bright of the three glitters, but it’s also over the darkest color.

Overall:

Love ‘em and totally worth the price. I wish they had been sold as just stand-alone flake glitters though because while the creme’s were nice, they weren’t necessary. I have plenty of colors I could put these over already. Even so, I love flake glitters!

Availability: Sephora. If you are looking for the 20% Sephora F&F code this year, it’s a little different. You have to email them here and request your specialized code. You can do that up to 5 times per household as long as you use a different email address each time. The sale ends Nov 2, 2011.

Pricing: These are $20.00 per set.

SOOOOOOOO, I am dying to know, what do you think? Which is your favorite and will you be picking any up?

Donmar will arrive in the mail today! So excited but it was difficult to choose a set. Based on your swatches, though, I think I made the right choice!

Pretty! I really love the blue flake because it looks unique. I hope it comes to our local Sephora stores, because I adore flakies!

I have a green green flaky and a great red flaky, but no blue flakies! So I’m thinking I’ll get Old Vic. You seriously have FANTASTIC photos.

Flakies = WIN. I love these combos! Out of curiosity, how does the Donmar compare to SH Hidden Treasure &/or Nubar 2010? They look quite similar to me so if they’re very close, I’ll pass and go for just the pretty blue and green flakies instead. :D

It is very similar to SH Hidden Treasure.

Thanks for reviewing these and swatching! I think that The Old Vic over Black Taxi resembles Lady Sings the Blues from Deborah Lippmann a little…

I am wearing Old Vic/Black Taxi now and am in love! I see the flakes best in direct sunlight (not that we’ve had much), but in general they seem to give my nails an indigo glow. I was happy with one coat of Black Taxi, too.

  • October 27, 2011

I’m really big on flakies, and The Wyndham over Kensington and The Old Vic over Black Taxi look soooo pretty! I also wish the flakie polishes would’ve been sold separately instead of with the cremes because I feel like those cremes aren’t really special. But I guess it’s good for someone who doesn’t have a lot of polish and wants to be able to wear the flakies right away.

if they weren’t $20 for one polish (because in reality I only want the overcoat) I would buy all three. I’ve always wanted Nfu-Oh but couldn’t afford them either. Maybe I’ll get a Sephora gift card this year and I can try one of these out.

I went to sephora yesterday to look at them. Since I have all the INGLOT flakies I probably won’t buy them. However I did notice that the Nails Inc. particles are smaller than the INGLOT ones. I assume that would make for a smoother finish. this is a great opportunity for people to get in on the flakie craze.

I would totally layer the crap out of these for a party on my nails!

These totally say “Harry Potter” to me. Donmar = Gryffindor; Wyndham = Slytherin; Old Vic = Ravenclaw. I’m a big HP nerd, though, so maybe it’s just me :) These are all gorgeous.

Damn, these are a little pricy for me to shell out the cash for, but the green flake and blue flake top coats are bad ass. Thank you so much for the swatches!

  • October 27, 2011

Ahh, they’re so beautiful. I’m with you, I wish the glitters came alone because they’re gorgeous. I’m trying to decide to buy these or some Nfu Oh flakies…

Thank you sooo much for the swatches! I have Hidden Treasure by SH so I’m totally on board with Wyndham and Old Vic. I can’t wait until they arrive! :)

  • October 27, 2011

I’m sorry, these are definitely pretty but the price is insane. People should swap for Golden Rose or Inglot flakies, they are cheaper. Golden Rose is about $3. Just wanted to warn people that there are cheap dupes to be found. Obviously Nails Inc has it own charm that often (more than I’d like to anyway) lures me in. But these particular ones are not too original and I hate sets where one colour is so generic, so I would not recommend getting them. Thanks for the swatches though, they just confirm what I thought. :)

I love the look of Old Vic. I also wish the flakies were sold separately. Instead of continuing to drool over these sets, I bought my first Nfu Oh: #52. If we had extra money coming in, I might have pounced on one of the Nails Inc sets. Nail polish is my only treat these days, and even that’s few and far between.

I got Donmar and Wyndham. If it were just based on the flakies I would have gotten Wyndham and Old Vic, but I really didn’t feel like getting a straight black creme. Now that I’ve seen swatches though I am tempted again, especially since all the cremes are pretty close to black. I wish my Sephora order would hurry up and get here!

    At first, I thought Donmar.
But now I want the other two as well.
I agree that I wish they sold the flakies separately, so maybe I’ll just do a Nfu-Oh order instead. Then I can get an Aqua Base, too!

Wow!!!!! So cool!!! I agree that the cremes are pretty much unnecessary! Think of all the color combinations you can create with the three flakies!!! :) Thanks for sharing!

Gah! Drool fest. I love flakies so much. I’m dying to get my hands on a bottle of Nubar’s flakies. It seems similar to this but these are different colors. These are amazing but a tad steep for 10 dollars a polish. However, they do seem worth it because they are so darn pretty.

I’d love to see The Old Vic over Kensington. Damn! Guess I’ll have to get them both.

  • October 27, 2011

Since you mention that Donmar is similar to Hidden Treasure, then I just need to get the other two.

Seriously, looking at your swatches took my breath away. Very gorgeous.

Darn, I didn’t see these. I keep finding things I wished I’d bought at Sephora. I did spend quite a bit. Really wished I’d seen these. Love those flakies.

  • October 27, 2011

Omgosh! I loveee flakies! It’s pretty expensive for the pack tho. I hope drug stores finally get on the flakies bandwagon. They’ll sell out soo quick! My favorite of the bunch is the red one. I can definitely see a gorgeous fall mani using it!

The Old Vic collection looks like a Canadian polish by Joe Fresh called ‘Twilight’. Also, those remind me of Nubar’s 2010 polish.
Over all, I think they’re nice! Especially the Green one! D: I think $20 is a bit much though!

I actually put all 3 of these in my cart. LOL! All the Illamasquas that I wanted aren’t offered any more so I threw these in the cart but just couldn’t do it even with the 20% off. *sigh* still trying to justify getting even 1.
