Inglourious Fingernail

Last weekend I was bored and re-watching Inglourious Basterds on TV. Suddenly I saw something that made me rewind, pause and get out my camera. This close-up shot of Melanie Laurent’s fingernail left me wondering…WTF? Why is it so lumpy and thick looking? Was nail polish supposed to look like this back then, or did she drag her fingernails across some wool while they were still wet? Either way it’s odd!

lol I’m pretty sure I noticed this also when I saw the movie. I wonder what happened.

Eep. I bet it looks even worse in unforgiving HD. Strangely makes me want to watch the movie again just to take a closer look. @_@

It’s kinda grossing me out…
Maybe it’s a stylistic choice. Her character is supposed to be gritty and raw. Maybe it’s a commentary on that?

I think it is funny that something like that caught your attention. I have not seen the movie but if I had that would have caught my attention too! I sometimes wonder when I notice little things like that is shouldnt I be paying closer attention to the plot?! LOL
Ok, this might be TMI but this could be a photo of my right thumb…it has bumps and ridges that started when I wore fake nails ONCE in the 90s for my sisters wedding. It’s the only nail that looks like that and I hide it every chance I get.

Hi Tina B,
Well I have plenty of ridges myself, but this looks like she dragged it across actual fabric. Have you tried using a ridge smoothing file on it? I do mine every 2 weeks or so and it helps a little.
I was filing it with a regular file, I didn’t know there was a ridge smoothing file. It has helped some but it still looks crazy to me!! Thanks

Wow! And I recently watched it. That is one ugly looking thumb nail.
That’s not a cute nail! ;p

I totally noticed that too! And I remember wondering the same thing; if it was just the way the formulas of nail polish were back in the day. Very odd…
Either that, or she has some sort of fungal infection of her nailbed. I had a coworker w/ a thumb like that.
i guess she messed up the mani before it was dry

She probably has a nail condition. There is one ( I can’t remember the name) but it looks like your thumb has been hit by the spiky end of a meat mallet, it looks like that might be whats going on.
