Deborah Lippmann Limited Edition Holiday 2011 Nail Polish Swatches, Photos & Review

As you probably already know, Deborah Lippmann has released six new colors for her Holiday 2011 collection.
Two of them I previously reviewed here and now I have two more!
This time I’ve got Stairway To Heaven and I Love The Nightlife. Both names are inspired by songs, which Lippmann frequently does (the best, I have to say, is Fade To Black, an ode to Metallica). I am partial to the naming of Stairway To Heaven since I am a huge Led Zeppelin fan, but I can get down with some good old fashioned disco as well.
Side note: Deborah Lippmann was the Arizona state disco dancing champion!
Both of these are glitter suspended in a clear base.

Stairway To Heaven

I Love The Nightlife

Stairway To Heaven
Stairway To Heaven is a polish filled with iridescent large hexagonal and square glitter. The glitter colors are mainly pink, green, gold and blue. It’s so pretty in the bottle but on it’s own I feel it needs a color underneath. The formula is thick and it’s not super easy to control where the glitter chunks end up. So work slowly waiting in-between coats 3-4 minutes or so to let it “set” so the glitter doesn’t move up to the tips of your nails. I used three coats here.

Since I felt Stairway To Heaven needed a little something’ somethin’, I painted my nails with a pinkish lavender (Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Pansy) and added two layers of it on top. Fabulous!

I Love The Nightlife
I Love The Nightlife is a clear base filled with large hexagonal graphite colored glitter. It’s super duper sparkly and looks like tiny little mirrors! This was a little less thick feeling than Stairway To Heaven, but you have to use the same technique for painting. This is two coats.
‘
Here we have two coats of it over a medium grey creme (Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Dangerous) which just totally makes it pop to me. I love this combo! You can really see just how shiny and mirror-like this glitter is against a dark backdrop.

Overall:
If you love glitter nail polish then I think you will love these. Both are pretty unique color-wise and definitely fun and sparkly for the holidays.
Availability: Deborah Lippmann’s site and department stores.
Pricing: $18.00.
What do you think about these two? Are they what you had been hoping for?

I LOVE that second combo. Holy moly! Officially on my x-mas list!

Stairway to Heaven reminds me of Jesse’s Girl Firefly, the only difference being the size and shape of the glitters.

And I thought it looked like Kleancolor’s Sugar Coat, but with square glitter instead of round!

They both look amazing in the bottles, but not so much on the nails. They don’t convince me.

Agreed. I liked them a lot more in the bottles, but it didn’t translate to the nail. The glitter is too sparse for my liking.

Agreed with Nihrida. I just don’t get the hype about Deborah Lipman. I feel like a failed nail junkie XD
Ooh, I think I might like these. I’d be interested to see them both over black. Especially ‘Heaven’.

I thought I’d like Stairway to Heaven (awesome name!) better, but I Love the Nightlife over that grey creme is so pretty!
Wish you could get more glitter on the nail though. It looks so sparse, even with two coats.

I do like the color combo you used for I love the Nightlife. I’m not a huge glitter polish gal, mostly because I find it annoying to apply. While the color combo is gorg, I think I’d rather spend $18 on a polish that could stand alone. Just my preference. Deborah Lipman makes some great colors. I just wish I could bring myself to pay that much for nail polish.
Thanks so much for sharing!!
I love I Love The Nightlife

Hmm.. that’s a funny sentence…

Were you able to purchase this at the store, or did you have to go online? I’ve been on the hunt for Good Girl Gone Bad and Stairway to Heaven at Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus for quite some time now. The makeup counter ladies are beginning to think I’m nuts, but where I’m nuts is in my hatred of paying exorbitant shipping fees!
Hi Nikki,
They were sent to me for review. However they have been for sale on Deborah Lippmann’s site for at least a week now.
Hmmm, pretty, but not must haves for me. I have a ton of sheer glitters, and don’t often think to wear them. I would probably buy these and have them sit in my Helmers for years.

I’m not too keen on the look of either of these but I like the fun fact of DL being a disco champion! In another life I would SO be a professional dancer

I like Stairway To Heaven more than the other, and it reminds me a lot of China Glaze Snow Globe. It’s pretty, but I’d go for China Glaze only because it’s more affordable for me.
Thanks for swatching them!

These are nice but I’m not spending that amount of money for glitter with a clear base. I’m sure there will be dupes from affordable brands. I’ll wait for them. Maybe.
Wow, totally disappointing for me. Especially I Love The Nightlife would have been so much prettier to me if you could reach (semi)opacity.

Toooootally. Or at least good random distribution. They both seem kinda clumpy and not very good at all. For my money (and storage space), LA Girl’s Glitter Addict polishes are way better than these.
I loved the bottle shots of both of these but by themselves, they leave me feeling ‘meh’. Your combo of ‘I Love The Nightlife’ with that gray kicks butt and has me thinking I need to try that one

I feel so miffed. I was excited to see swatches for the DL Holiday colors and so far none of them have done a thing for me. ): I did like Stairway over another color, so I guess it’s a maybe – though I wouldn’t kick it out of bed if got it as a Christmas gift, lol.
I am SOOO disappointed how sheer Stairway to Heaven is. I love that song and wanted to get it just because of the name but now I don’t think it’s worth my money now. I’m so sad.

I like Love the Nightlife, but it looks too sparse and uneven. It looks good layered, but I think I would get frustrated trying to get an even amount of glitter on each nail. Stairway to Heaven reminds me of Easter Grass! I think I’ll pass on both.

Yeah, I love glitter, but these are disappointing. They look great in the bottle though, wish the looked the same on the nails.

I love the graphite glitter in Nightlife… I think that whenever I “want black glitter” this is REALLY what I’m hoping for! I usually wait for dupes of Lippmann’s glitters because of the price, but I may not be able to pass this one up.

Pretty sure I Love the Nightlife has a dupe in Wet n Wild Tangled in My Web!
Stairway To Heaven is great, and now I have Led Zep in my head – double win!

I Love the Nightlife is on my list!
I don’t care for either one of these especially not for $18 but I’m not a DL fan. Actually, I’ve never seen one that I had to have. I’d rather buy less less expensive glitters and splurge on one of a kind colors.
I feel like such a grinch because DL has made some really fabulous polishes, but I am really not a fan of sparse layering glitter for $18. Put it in a colored jelly base and it’s a different story.
Absolutely. That graphite glitter has SO much potential, but just dumping it into a clear base is really blah.
I actually don’t like them. I don’t really know why…

I love these glitters! The combo you did with I Love The Nightlife and the grey creme is stunning! It looks like a perfect New Year’s Eve mani. Love it!

I’m disappointed in the distribution! I was hoping they would be as nice as Happy Birthday is with two coats.
Still haven’t been able to find her stuff at Nordstrom… The one in town seems to be a bit slow in getting/ordering things. =/

In my mind’s eye, Stairway to Heaven does not look like that at all. I wonder if that’s coloring my thoughts about that color- I just don’t feel it…
I Love The Nightlife has definite potential, though IMHO. I keep wanting to see it over a really pale shimmery blue. (or even pale shimmery, ethereal pink)
I am diggin’ that one.
Oooh Stairway to Heaven looks…heavenly! I was hoping it would, I wanted that one! I had almost hoped it would be a flake instead of hex glitter but it is gorgeous anyway!

Wow. These do absolutely NOTHING for me. My wallet will be happy.
WOOOOW! I absolutely love both of these. I’m not usually up to paying $18 per polish but for these two glitters I just may have to. Thanks for the beautiful swatches!
It’s funny cause all I can think of when I hear I love the nightlife is Let’s Go by The Cars.
I love the nightlife baby! She said, let’s go!
I was going through the cosmetics at Walmart today and came across a Bon Bons polish that looks EXACTLY like Stairway to Heaven! I knew it reminded me of something; I couldn’t put my finger on it, though, so I didn’t get it. I can’t remember the name of it, but I’m definitely snagging it next time!
I Love the Nightlife looks like it would be amazing for layering; I’m thinking between coats of a dark blue or black jelly polish?
They’re both gorgeous, but I have a dupe in mind for the first and the second looks super easy to franken. Plus, if I spent that much on nail polish, I think I would have to disown myself! xD
