The Beauty Social 2011 by Beautylish Recap

This past weekend I was in Santa Monica for The Beauty Social from Beautylish. This event was all about getting people together to celebrate all kinds of beauty and hear from different celebrity makeup artists, experts, bloggers and vloggers.

I wasn’t too sure about going because I didn’t know anyone and it wasn’t local. But I decided to bite the bullet and I am SO glad I did! I met so many really cool bloggers and vloggers.

Some of the people I met were Karen from Makeup and Beauty Blog (kind of funny I had to go to LA to meet her when she lives 45 minutes from me!), Patrice from Afrobella, Erika from Makeup Bag, Leesha from xSparkage on YouTube, JulieG from YouTube and Romy from Romy Raves. I met all sorts of other cool people as well from bloggers to those behind makeup brands (Jenny Frankel from CoverFX and Amy from Sugarpill) and Twitter accounts (Nils from Beautylish) and more!

The event was held in one big ballroom with chair in the center and lounging couches on both sides. There were two giant screens on either side of the main stage as well.

Benefit

There were quite a few beauty brands at the event surrounding the perimeter of the room where you could go and learn more about their lines, get your makeup, nails, brows or hair done, etc.

I was told by the Urban Decay Twitter folks to ask Ava about the perfect cat eye for my eye shape. When I got there she wasn’t actually doing makeup on people, but she told me how to try it. She was really nice!

The first panel on the first day was all called How Your Favorite Beauty Brands Got Big. The people on the panel were: Ning Chao (Beauty Director of Beautylish and Moderator), Jenny Frankel from CoverFX, Marissa Shipman from theBalm, Carol Shaw from LORAC and Celebrity Hairstylist Byron Williams.

The next panel I attended was Expert Trendspotting Secrets Revealed which was again moderated by Ning Chao and featured Ying Chu from Marie Claire, Annie Tomlin from BellaSugar (who I didn’t get to meet and really wanted to), Fashion Stylist Zoe Glassner and Chriselle Lim from GENLUX magazine.

The last panel of the day on Saturday was called So You Want To Be A Guru? and it featured Julie Gutierrez (JulieG on YouTube), Marissa C (rissrose2 on YouTube), Leesha C. (xSparkage on YouTube) and Wendy Nguyen, a Fashion Blogger.

I have to say I am a big fan of Leesha’s videos and she’s exactly the same in person as in her videos. She’s really nice and sweet and bubbly. I approached JulieG as well and introduced myself and she was really very nice and chatty. Cool people!

I had planned on attending the How To Turn Beauty Blogging Into A Career session on Sunday with Karen (Makeup and Beauty Blog), Erika (Makeup Bag), Romy (Romy Raves) and Christine (Temptalia) but woke up at 2:45 am with horrible allergies and then had a really bad headache so we headed home early. Bummer!

Happily I did meet some really great people and got myself out there, which is rare for me. They are having another one next year, so here’s to hoping it’s held in San Francisco this time!
