MAC Art of Powder Collection for Fall 2011 Swatches, Photos & Review

MAC Art of Powder Collection for fall 2011 is pretty darn amazing looking.

This is a small but very artistic and gorgeous set of powders all with a different abstract art look to them. Like tiny little murals in a container!

Included in this collection is a highlighter called In the Abstract, a bronzer called Optical Bronzer and an eye shadow palette called Street Art Eye Shadow.

Street Art Eyeshadow looks amazing doesn’t it? Such a cool idea for a palette, in terms of looks anyway…

As far as color payoff, it’s a bit on the slim side. The colors included are basically pale gold/brown, white, light blue, orange, pale pink and pastel blue.

Above are samples of various sections of the eye shadow and you can see, the colors are shimmery, but really pale. REALLY pale! Honestly I love this palette but more to look at and admire than actually use because color payoff is so minimal.

In The Abstract, Optical Bronzer

In The Abstract is actually my favorite of these palettes in terms of both looks and color. I think the pink and gold look so nice together and I love the little splotches of “paint”! The color is a very pale pink with shimmery gold bits. It’s really quite pale, but I find it really flattering for a very soft look.

Optical Bronzer is a cool zig-zag gold and pink striped design, which I also really think looks cool. when swatched on my hand it comes off as a medium warm bronze with gold shimmer. I don’t think it’s too dark for me, but have yet to try it on my face.

Overall:

In terms of looks, these are amazing. In terms of color saturation they are all on the sparse side. The Street Art Eye Shadow palette is my least favorite here because the lack of color. I do like In The Abstract, but it’s definitely not my favorite MAC highlighter ever (though it looks the coolest!) Optical Bronzer might be a good option for those who like bronzers that have a lighter touch.

Availability: North America September 29th, International October

Pricing: $38.00 each

What do you think? Better as art or functional makeup?

I’ve been waiting for these swatches after I saw the promo pics. These are gorg and original, but after your swatches, I’m thinking I’m going to avoid buying them. If I decide on one, it will be In the Abstract….I love the artsy eyeshadow, but on the skin, it’s kind of a dud! Thanks!

How cool Street Art is!! And since I don’t wear much make up for the morning, I can use it for my every day look!!

  • Aw, I love the look of Street art… Too bad it’s not practical as an eyeshadow..

  • I really love the artistic designs on each of them, but it’s such a pity about the poor colour payoff. Wish they spent just as much time on the actual products as they did on the way they looked.

    Thanks for sharing!

Pass. They could have made the Street palette amazing. But whatever.

  • Such beautiful palettes and a post well done. Shame about the lack of color payoff. I’d rather just look at them!

  • It’s better as art. Makeup-wise, there’s not much you can do with it.

  • Stunning designs! But I think I won’t use them, I’d be afraid to ruin those beautiful patterns. Better as art, IMO. ;)

I don’t think these are products I would really use. I don’t tend to wear bronzer or blush. Pale eyeshadows do not work on me.

  • I would love them to look at. But since they’re makeup and meant to be used, I probably won’t pick them up. Even if they had good color payoff, I wouldn’t want to ruin the design!
