Kat Von D True Romance Saint, Sinner & Poetica Palettes Swatches, Photos & Review

Kat Von D True Romance Palettes

Kat Von D has three new True Romance palettes out called Saint, Sinner and Poetica.

As you might know, I have a mild “thing” about having to own all of these palettes and in fact now I do with the exception of two (Ludwig and True Love). Yes, even though there are repeated colors in them.

The new palettes are slightly smaller and in a much different kind of palette. These are metal with rounded corners and a spring-hinge which opens them up completely flat. The older ones had a plastic rubbery feel with square edges and they opened and stayed open to the angle you wanted, which is handy considering there is a mirror inside.

All her palettes have great design on the front and these are no exception. They are all embossed with a different pattern and look really cool. They do feel a bit flimsy and cheap to me though and I don’t like how when you open them the spring opens the entire lid out so you can’t really look into the mirror without using your hands to hold it open.

Another good thing about these is that none of them have those cream shadows in them, which tended to be fairly crappy and dried out quickly. She also got rid of the useless little brushes and included a black Autograph Pencil liner instead. Good move!

Heavens, Enjoy The Silence, <3, Downtown, Sunny, Pray For Me, Bookworm, Caravaggio

Saint is the palette I consider to be the most wearable and the most akin to maybe the Urban Decay Naked Palette.

The colors in here are mostly earth-toned warm colors and really very nice. These all had good to great saturation and felt really nice and soft. I love that the two with glitter actually showed the glitter in my hand swatch and not just in the pan.

I checked this palette against all the others I own (Memento Mori, Angeles, Truth, Adora, Metal Orchestra, Beethoven, Gypsy, Sinner, Poetica) and there are no dupes or repeated colors.

Heavens is a pale vanilla shimmer
Enjoy The Silence is a light shimmery champagne
<3 is a pale pink with obvious silver glitter
Downtown is a super gorgeous metallic rose gold
Sunny is another very pretty metallic warm gold
Pray For Me is a pale shimmery taupe with a sort of golden tone to it
Bookworm is a medium chocolate brown with obvious gold glitter
Caravaggio is a dark cool chocolate brown matte

For me the best colors in this palette are Downtown, Sunny, Pray For Me and Bookworm.

Kat Von D Sinner
Disco Dust, Linzy-Jane, Ace Of Spades, Violator, Holy Bible, Glock, Dorian Gray, Lucifer

Sinner is a smokey mostly dark, cool-toned palette; definitely not for those looking for a natural look.

There are a lot of repeated colors in this one which are: Lucifer (included also in the Gypsy, Metal Orchestra and Beethoven palettes), Glock (also in Metal Orchestra & Adora palettes), Ace of Spades (also in the Adora palette) Holy Bible (also in Adora).

Disco Dust is a pale shimmery pink.
Linzy-Jane is a medium shimmery royal purple
Ace of Spades is a dark eggplant purple with lots of glitter (but the glitter doesn’t show up very well on my hand swatch)
Violator is a dark blackened looking purple with tons of purple and green and blue glitter (which happily does show up nicely)
Holy Bible is a pure shimmery white
Glock is a dark, cool blue/grey metallic (amazingly soft & pigmented)
Dorian Gray is a dark black/grey with multi-colored glitter that shows up nicely
Lucifer is a black matte which is fairly patchy

The definite stand-out colors here are Linzy-Jane, Violator, Holy Bible, Glock and Dorian Gray for me. All of these were really soft and super pigmented.

Kat Von D Poetica
Forgiveness, Sand Timer, Chandler, Tijuana, Wonderland, Shiba, Babe, You Alone

Poetica includes an interesting mix of light and dark, cool and warm colors, but I find it overall the least interesting of these three palettes here.

As far as repeats there aren’t any exact ones. There are a few that look somewhat close, but I compared them and no dupes.

Forgiveness is a pale shimmery yellow with yellow/gold shimmer
Sand Timer is a light nude/pink with shimmer
Chandler is a bright burnt orange metallic
Tijuana is a dark brown with copper glitter
Wonderland is a dark plum purple with purple and gold glitter
Shiba is a medium mauve/purple shimmer
Babe is a medium violet purple with slight blue duochrome
You Alone is a opaque vanilla with very slight shimmer

Most of these were pretty opaque and felt nice. The glittery ones are always a bit patchier and feel slightly gritty because of the glitter. I would say Sand Timer was the least interesting and least saturated in this bunch.

The stand out colors for me are Chandler, Wonderland, and Babe.

 Overall:

I am very pleased with the Saint and Sinner palettes especially, but do also like some of the colors in Poetica. When you buy her palettes you do risk getting some repeated colors or some that are really similar to others, which kind of sucks. I wish they were all super unique. I am really glad she got rid of the cream shadows and lame brushes and included a useful black liner. I did prefer the look and feel of the older palettes compared to these metal ones. And also they are now a dollar more than they were, which is no bueno.

 Availability: Sephora

 Pricing: $35.00

What do you think about Saint, Sinner & Poetica?

Thanks for reviewing these 3 palettes! I had my eye on all of them because I have a bunch of her older ones and got a lot of use out of the colours.

I also preferred the rubberized cases better than these metal ones, but I didn’t like how the rubber tended to show dirt more easily. Also glad that they did away with those crappy little brushes. (Although I use them sometimes to apply lipstick so it’s not complete garbage.)

Now I just need to find out if any of these contain bismuth oxychloride (because that’s an allergen for me in eye shadow). If not, oh boy…I’ll have to get at least one palette.

I really like Poetica & Saint. I think I will most likely buy those. As far as Sinner, I have almost all the stand out colors to me already via her other palettes so I will probably skip that one. Thanks for the great review and checking for repeats and dupes.

Sinner is the one that is calling to me! I’ve yet to try Kat’s palettes, but I really want to. Your swatches are great and I’m glad to hear they don’t have the cream shadows anymore- no one seemed to like those at all!

I like the “Poetica”!Especially the “Chandler” eye-shadow, I use one similar to this for my everyday make -up routine, I’m always looking for new orange-brown shades and this one looks almost perfect for my tastes.

(Thanks for your reviews!I never commented so far but I’ve always really appreciated the way you do them!)

I think my favorite is Poetica, I like the mix of warm and cool colors. Saint looks really nice, too, but I rarely wear neutrals. Thank you for the swatches!

You’re like me: I really enjoy collecting the KVD palettes. So far I own Beethoveen, Ludwig, Adora, and Metal Orchestra. Saint is going to be my next buy.

I’m really digging the Sinner palette. An <3 shadow is lovely. I don't want to buy the whole palette just for that though.

Saint and Sinner look great. I intend on stocking up on KVD bits when I come to the US next year.

I like Saint, but I won’t buy it because I really need to get some more mattes in my collection :) Love shimmer and sparkles, but my eyes are getting just a little bit too wrinkled for it… Not fair!

These are all pretty, I like Kat Von D palettes! I think Poetica is definitely my fave here.

I am really glad you reviewed these! Swatches are gorgeous as always! I am looking forward to buying these when I have some extra money. I actually have all of the rest of her palettes besides these 3 new ones. I just wanted to say that as far as the Poetica palette goes, there are actually a handful of repeats. Babe and Skiba are from the True Love palette (the one you said you didn’t have). Tijuana is also in the Momento Mori palette and her holiday book palette. I think that Poetica looks very similar to True Love overall, but will still have to pick it up. Also, you should get Ludwig!

I own all of Kat’s palettes. I’ll be ordering these as well. I like the look of the new case. Shame it’s so flimsy. Thank God the creme shadows are gone & those cheap brushes. Glad to have another liner pencil brand to try. I’ve always wondered how her pencils were. I’d love a review on the liners. Thanks.

I think they all look great! I’d love to get my hands on the Sinner palette the most, I think.

I have Kat Von D’s Saint palette (I actually waited and waited for it and signed up for the alert from Sephora to notify its availability). I also have the Urban Decay Naked palette, and while I can see why some would compare it to KVD’s Saint palette, I have to say, I prefer Kat’s, hands down. I also have her Ludwig palette (amazing) and like how velvety and blendable her shades are. UD just doesn’t do it for me. I’m one of the very few who isn’t in love with the Naked palette (a lot of fallout with shimmery shades, very hard to blend, a few colors I would never wear). KVD’s Saint palette does offer versatility — I have worn all shades so far in different looks. My biggest gripe: the new package is DEFINITELY flimsy. The spring hinge is definitely going to come loose sooner than later. Also, I don’t think the liner is that terrific, but it’s a much better bonus than those tiny useless brushes that came with her other eyeshadow palettes. Overall, I’d give the KVD Saint palette a 8 out of 10.
