Urban Decay Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color Swatches, Photos, Review & Comparison
New for fall are the Urban Decay Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Colors.
These come in a fat pencil and five colors. The finish varies on them from opaque and creamy to sparkly and glittery. They all have a lipstick-like texture but are somewhat shiny like a gloss is.
I didn’t find that they were as glossy as they claimed to be except for one of them.
The pencils are nice, I do like how easy they are to apply however I have two problems with them. One is that they do get soft when warm, which can cause breaking (the tip of my Adrenaline broke off after I did my hand swatch). Also since you have to sharpen them you use them up quicker than a normal lipstick.
Crush, F-bomb, Punch Drunk, Adrenaline, Big Bang
Crush is a bright blue-based pink creme that is extremely glossy and shiny. OMG. The second I applied this one I was blown away by how amazing it is. I truly, truly love this color and finish. It’s like pink plastic. Definitely my favorite one and if you only get one, this would be the one I recommend the most!
F-bomb is a bright, cool-toned red creme. It’s nice and pigmented and goes on very easily. Such a gorgeous red color. It’s shiny for sure, but doesn’t have that wet look that Crush has.
Punch Drunk is a bright orange creme. This one is very bright but not totally neon. Very pretty and a show-stopping color.
Adrenaline is a bright fuchsia with glitter. While the color is really nice, it didn’t apply as opaque as the creme ones did. It doesn’t feel gritty or anything though, which is a bonus. Neither this one or Big Bang were quite as glossy looking as the cremes either.
Big Bang is a bright pink with glitter. Again a really cool color, but not as pigmented or glossy as the cremes.

Milani Photo Flash, Urban Decay Adrenaline, Milani Flashy, Urban Decay Big Bang
These reminded me a lot of the Milani Lip Flash pencils so I decided to compare the shimmery ones to the Milanis. Bingo we have two dupes, basically.
Milani Photo Flash and UD Adrenaline are basically the same color and finish. Same goes for Milani Flashy and UD Big Bang. There are some REALLY small differences but for all intents and purposes I think they are dupes.
Overall:
I really do love these and think I will be wearing them a lot! Crush is out of control amazing, definitely my favorite one. I think the cremes are better than the glittery ones overall and if you already own the Milani shades that are similar I say skip the UD ones. Milani is much less expensive and you get the same look.

Would a lip brush work well for application for these? I was thinking it would be great if it did with how soft you said these are.

They aren’t quite that soft. Maybe a stiff lip brush would work if you wanted to get the edges really precise, but the pencil applies pretty nicely on it’s own if the tip is somewhat sharp (like they come).
Wow- I think F-Bomb is on my list of MUST haves… I’m just such a sucker for bright, kick you in the face dramatic reds. Yep.
How long do these last as opposed to regular lipsticks or glosses? And do they stain?
Also, in looking at them… They look similar to Nyx Jumbo Pencils, so I wonder if they could be de-potted to save the “waste” which would happen from sharpening?

I haven’t been able to wear them yet all day so can’t confirm on how long they last. However I think they do last longer than most lipglosses since they have more of a lipstick opacity to them. The glittery ones did stain my lips a wee bit.
OMG Crush is to die for! Wow. I’m punching myself for not even swatching it last time I was in Sephora. The funny thing is that this time last year I was looking all over the place for a product just like that so I guess I can get it now lol

wow. I love my Milani ones. I can’t imagine paying $19 for this from UD when Milani does it so well for less than half the price.

Also hard candy has their version ( which I think came before milani). Those are as pigmented as urban decays with the metallic finish, the ones from Milani I have aren’t quite as pigmented as the other two brands. I got UD’s punch drunk and I love it. I layered hard candy inferno on top…. LOVE IT!
