NARS Loves San Francisco Limited Edition Collection

It’s possible that I am a horrible person for showing you this. Horrible because this was a very limited edition collection, only 100 were available, and I jumped on it as soon as I heard about it.
It’s long-gone by now, but MAYBE one day the colors will come back as permanent colors. You never know…There was also a collection for New York, which contained a different set of colors.

Haight Ashbury

Haight Ashbury

Haight Ashbury
I’m not really sure where NARS got the color ideas from when they thought about Haight Ashbury. For me I tend to think of orange, brown and green somehow when I think of the Haight. But either way I liked these colors though the lavender/cornflower one was a bit patchy. The green/silver one was incredible, love it.

Golden Gate Bridge

Golden Gate Bridge

Golden Gate Bridge

Let’s discuss this. First off as the entire world knows, the Golden Gate Bridge isn’t yellow or gold, it’s an orange color called International Orange. It’s very orange. This is very yellow/golden.
I get what they were trying to say about the “golden” part of the name and the color, but it doesn’t quite mesh with me, being native to this area.
However, this is an amazing color. I had NO idea how to use such a yellow opaque “blush” though when I first saw it. It’s actually called a blush but I cannot imagine anyone using it as a traditional blush color. It makes a kick-ass highlight color though! So pretty.

Angel Island

Angel Island
Angel Island is a very pretty lavender eyeshadow shade. Shimmery, cool and decently pigmented.

Alamo

Alamo

Alamo
No this isn’t named after the suburban Bay Area city of Alamo. In fact it’s named after Alamo Square in San Francisco which is where the famous Victorian row houses are that you always see on TV and on postcards.
Sadly the peachy color did nothing for me. It was very sheer, thin and almost watery. Even after three coats there was a very clear nail line. I wish SF had gotten a different nail polish shade because no one I know here would really like this color.
Hope you enjoyed!

Yeah I’m not too into the polish either…thing that really bugs me is the blush even though it’s pretty! The color of the golden gate bridge would certainly make a nice blush too, it’s not like it’s blue or anything! Wonder why they didn’t go that route…
omg.. those eyeshadows are SO pretty. very nice!
Even though it’s a very rare limited-edition set, I still enjoyed looking at your photos and swatches.
Angel Island is so soft and pretty. I bet it looks really good with your eye colour in particular.
Why would the collection include 2 lavender shades?
Haight Ashbury didn’t really look that good on the pan but on swatch is devine <3
I like when people show pictures of limited edition or unavailable items on their blogs. Its cool seeing different things. It’s a shame that everything didn’t live up to your expectations. I felt the same way with OPI’s Texas collection.
It seems almost as if half of the collection was a waste and that NARS didn’t pick the appropriate colors to match the famous settings.
Agreed.
Nothing in this collection really jumps out at me, so I’m not sorry I missed out on this, but I am a little surprised that they would only release 100 of these.
i was TOTALLY about to comment on the whole the-bridge-is-not-even-close-to-yellow thing lol!
I sure wouldn’t use that shade as a blush. Highlighter maybe! Didn’t anyone look at the bridge first? Really not the right shade. I think of bright colors when I think of Haight Ashbury. I’m thinking of the Haight in the ’60′s! Shame the polish is so sheer. Not one that I would buy.
Yes VV, you are a very very naughty girl for showing us make up we can’t buy
I like all the colors here except the polish, it’s too ‘mommy’ color for my tastes.
On the other hand I like the fact that colors are different from the actual places they represent. It makes them less predictable.
good thing there are only 100 of these. rather plain.
I was totally thinking of getting this, but wasn’t sure about the color choices (especially for the price). I wanted the set and am glad I got to see it swatched. A part of me still wants it, but I really don’t think I would use the colors much.
Golden Gate definitely threw me off! First the color/name and then–it’s a blush? Kinda cool though
