MAC has a new Opulash mascara out for fall 2011 called Optimum Black.
It’s supposedly a more saturated black than the other Opulash and it contains a blend of silica plates of Mica and natural Kaolin which helps curl, thicken and separate lashes. It is resistant to flaking, smudging and humidity and claims to last 15 hours. Hefty claims!
The brush is a pretty large one which helps give you volume, they say. Normally I don’t like HUGE mascara brushes because I have a harder time controlling them. This one however is just under a size that would be too large for me though, so it actually works pretty nicely for me.

Now honestly I don’t really think this black is any blacker than a standard black mascara. It’s black for sure though.
Even though the brush is larger, it seems to reach pretty much every eyelash and covers them well.
I don’t think it separates quite as nicely as it says it does, but it does an ok job. I didn’t have any clumping which is a plus.
The longest I’ve worn it so far is about 8-9 hours and I didn’t have any problems or flaking. My mascara normally lasts on me until I take it off, which can be up to 15-16 hours, so it would be hard for me to judge the “lasts 15 hours” statement.
It’s a nice mascara, one I really like. I don’t think it’s really groundbreaking or that different from the original Opulash in terms of color and formula on me.
Availability: August 25th in North America and September elsewhere.
What do you think, will you be trying the new Opulash?
