VV Friday Poll

VV Poll July 22 VV Friday Poll

Welcome to the book edition of the VV Friday Poll!

I read a lot. Always have, always will. Reading is pretty much the ONLY thing that keeps me somewhat sane during my 2 1/2 commute every day. I thought this would make a great topic for my poll since a lot of people read lounging about at the beach or pool (or hot sweaty train commutes) in the summer. icon smile VV Friday Poll

Join me for a few moments won’t you?

  1. How was your week? Anything exciting happen?
Nothing much exciting happened really. Same ‘ole, same ‘ole.
  2. What book(s) are you currently reading?
I started A Clash Of Kings (book 2 in the Game Of Thrones series) but haven’t been able to get into it. I am also reading Room, which is pretty good so far and written from a very unique perspective.
  3. What’s on your nails today?
    Just Seche Vite Rebuild.
  4. Do you have a favorite book you re-read over and over?
The Outsiders and The Stand have been read MANY times. I have re-read a ton of books though, sometimes new ones just cannot compare.
  5. Do you use an e-reader, regular books or both?
I use both. I will never, ever stop buying books because I collect them and have thousands, but I love how light the e-readers are (especially for commuting purposes).
  6. During the long, hot summer days, do you prefer a trashy fun novel or something gripping and lengthy?
I switch between the two. I love Janet Evanovich books because they are so funny and easy to read, but also like a good long fiction novel.
  7. What genre do you read the most from?
    Contemporary fiction.
  8. Do you like reading series of books and if so, which are your favorite ones?
Yes I love nothing more than a really good series. Something to always look forward to next! My favorites are: Harry Potter, Chronicles Of Narnia, The Outlander Series (well the first 4 anyways by Diana Gabaldon) and The Hunger Games.
  9. What’s a book you absolutely hated that everyone else seemed to love?
The Road. Ok I didn’t HATE it but I had huge expectations before I read it. I heard it was just horrifying, disturbing, will keep you up at night, etc. I read it and was like “that’s it?”.
  10. What are your weekend plans?
Today it’s a blog-work day. Tomorrow lunch and shopping with a friend, and Sunday, probably more blog-work!

Do you have a favorite book you re-read over and over? Anne of Green Gables
Do you use an e-reader, regular books or both? Regular books! You’ll never take my regular books away from me!
During the long, hot summer days, do you prefer a trashy fun novel or something gripping and lengthy? It depends. I don’t really read a lot of trashy fun novels, but I’m not opposed to it.

  • 1.How was your week? Anything exciting happen? Nope, nothing. Boring but nice to have my husband home again :)

2.What book(s) are you currently reading? Just started Changes by Jim Butcher (the 12th book in the Dresden Files). Just finished Dead Reckoning by Charlaine Harris, I’m so disappointed in that series these days. I read them before True Blood came out and I loved the first 5 or 6 books, the last 4 or five have been so utterly banal. This one was ok but still not nearly as good as it should have been.

3.What’s on your nails today? Naked. Was trying to decide what to put on and just found some SH Crackles at my BX finally. Picked up Distressed Denim so I think it’ll be something with that on it :)

4.Do you have a favorite book you re-read over and over? I read insanely obsessive amounts, however I rarely re-read books. I dislike knowing what’s going to happen. The one exception to that, a book I’ll read probably once a year, is Phantom by Susan Kay. Whether you like Phantom of the Opera or not it’s a seriously amazing book, telling the story of Erik from his birth. The way she creates the character of Erik has so much depth it’s hard not to fall in love with him :)

5.Do you use an e-reader, regular books or both? My husband wants me to get an e-reader but I’m not so sure. In my last job I was on a computer all day, the last thing I wanted was to look at one all night too. Besides, I love the feel of a good book!

6.During the long, hot summer days, do you prefer a trashy fun novel or something gripping and lengthy? Anything. Seriously, I will read almost anything lol. I tend to read a lot of “brain candy”.

7.What genre do you read the most from? Urban fantasy. Werewolves, witches, vampires, anything supernatural I’m obsessed with.

8.Do you like reading series of books and if so, which are your favorite ones? Yep, very much. Anne Rice’s vampire books of course. Also Patricia Briggs’ Mercy Thompson series, Keri Arthur’s Guardian series, Kelley Armstrong’s Otherworld series, Kim Harrison’s Hollows series, Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files. There’s quite a few others I could add but I’ll stop there lol.

9.What’s a book you absolutely hated that everyone else seemed to love? Um… I can’t think of any right now. I will say I’ve never read the Harry Potter series, not really sure why though.

10.What are your weekend plans? Not sure yet. I want to do some exploring but we’ll see how my husband feels :)

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
    5. Do you use an e-reader, regular books or both?
    Good ol’ regular books.
    5. During the long, hot summer days, do you prefer a trashy fun novel or something gripping and lengthy?
It doesn’t have to be gripping and lengthy, but I can’t do trashy novels.
    6. What genre do you read the most from?
    Sci-fi, fantasy, humor
    7. Do you like reading series of books and if so, which are your favorite ones?

I LOVED Fool. It was such a fun book, especially after having to read King Lear 4 separate times throughout my college years.

4.) Do you have a favorite book you re-read over and over?

6.) During the long, hot summer days, do you prefer a trashy fun novel or something gripping and lengthy?
    Gripping and lengthy, always.
7.) What genre do you read the most from?
    Fantasy. See above regarding ‘lengthy’.
8.) Do you like reading series of books and if so, which are your favorite ones?
Yes. Dresden Files, no question about it. Then GRRM’s Ice & Fire, obviously. Patrick Rothfuss Kingkiller Chronicles are excellent… the full list is extensive.
9.) What’s a book you absolutely hated that everyone else seemed to love?
The Lord of the Rings trilogy. I love the story, but Tolkein’s writing is just painful. Also, Glenn Cook’s Chronicles of the Black Company: it’s been recommended to me, but I just could not get through it. Perhaps your experience with Clash of Kings is similar, which ensaddens me.
10.) What are your weekend plans?
I’ll be chasing my kids and trying to stay cool during this murderous heat wave!

  • How was your week? Anything exciting happen? It was good, but the study plan started to buzz with alarm, so that was always in my head. I found it very exciting that since tuesday every single day I got a package with nail polish in mail box. Cool, eh? One consisted of over 20 polishes, one of 4 my big lemmings, one was my first reveiw product … crazy. :)

What book(s) are you currently reading? Currently I’m only re-reading Lord Of The Rings. After big study phase I tend to read something I already know and means a lot to me. And I’m waiting for the newest Song of Ice and Fire book.

What’s on your nails today? Eyeko Lilac Polish with Sally Hansen pink crackle. You wouldn’t believe me if I told you everything I went through with my mani today.

Do you have a favorite book you re-read over and over? Yes. J. R. R. Tolkien Lord Of The Rings and J. K. Rowling Harry Potter series.

Do you use an e-reader, regular books or both? I read regular books, but I’d love to have an e-reader, because it’s so much handy when I’m on the move. Can you imagine walking around with entire LOTR (around 1300 pages)?

During the long, hot summer days, do you prefer a trashy fun novel or something gripping and lengthy? Gripping and lenghty, anytime, any place. They just give me more. Ok, I AM still talking about the books.

What genre do you read the most from? Fantasy and sci-fi.

Do you like reading series of books and if so, which are your favorite ones? Yes, I do. Well, LOTR, if you consider it series, Harry Potter, Pullman series, Stroud series on Bartimeus, Martin series etc.

What’s a book you absolutely hated that everyone else seemed to love? Twilight. What the hell is up with that fanatism? Seriously. I went through half of it and I stop wasting my time.

What are your weekend plans? It’s my BF’s birthday so we’re going to the pool and then I’ll spend some time at his place. That and studying.

How was your week? Anything exciting happen?
Nope, nothing exciting. Just enjoying the weather.

What book(s) are you currently reading?
I’m reading a guilty pleasure murder mystery called Corpse Pose, a young adult novel called The Knife of Never Letting Go, a travel memoir called Keeping the Feast, and Bridge of Sighs, by Richard Russo.
    What’s on your nails today?
Revlon iced mauve. Probably one of the best formulas in my collection, and a surprisingly pretty color.
Do you have a favorite book you re-read over and over?
I’m not a big re-reader because I’m always looking for what’s new, but I have read The Wind in the Willows many times.
Do you use an e-reader, regular books or both?
I’ve never used an e-reader. As a librarian, I think I have a natural aversion to them, but I think I’ll eventually have to at least try one. I much prefer holding a physical book.
During the long, hot summer days, do you prefer a trashy fun novel or something gripping and lengthy?
To be honest, I prefer trashy stuff, as long as its well-written. I have no patience for fluffy reads that are also badly executed. Nora Roberts, for example, is a pretty great writer, so I’ll read some of her stuff. I also have a weakness for murder mysteries.
What genre do you read the most from?
Probably young adult fiction. I’ve been seriously getting into travel memoirs lately, too.
Do you like reading series of books and if so, which are your favorite ones?
I love series books. My favorites of all time are Harry Potter, The Lightning Thief, and The Luxe series by Anna Godbersen, which I avoided for so long, but is actually some of the best YA writing I’ve ever read.
What’s a book you absolutely hated that everyone else seemed to love?
I wouldn’t say I hated it, but there was this book called The Book Thief that I just didn’t care for, though the rest of my YA lit class absolutely loved it.
    What are your weekend plans?
Going to see a play on Sat. night, then just hanging out.

    5. Do you use an e-reader, regular books or both? Books – I just don’t “get” e-reading.
    6. During the long, hot summer days, do you prefer a trashy fun novel or something gripping and lengthy? Always gripping and lengthy.
    7. What genre do you read the most from? Psychological thrillers AND Victorian novels. Only they don’t seem to be publishing many novels these days, those Victorians. Lazy tykes.
    8. Do you like reading series of books and if so, which are your favorite ones? If I like an author I will look for all his or her books so I’m bound to read everything in a series if the author pleases me.
    9. What’s a book you absolutely hated that everyone else seemed to love? I don’t hate the Harry Potters by any means but they do get rather stale…
    10. What are your weekend plans? Dogs and food and sleep.

1.How was your week? Anything exciting happen?
Week was good. Nothing exciting, just a pretty easy, all around week!

2.What book(s) are you currently reading?
Sing You Home by Jodi Picoult

    3.What’s on your nails today?
My fingernails were looking pretty ragged last night, so I cut them all done and am leaving them plain for a few days. OPI I’m Not Really a Waitress on my toes.

4.Do you have a favorite book you re-read over and over?
My favorite all time book is The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. I might re-read a book once or twice, but I like to listen to them over and over. I figure there are SO many books to read, I feel bad reading the same ones again. But I can listen at any time. So I always have Harry Potter, The Hunger Games and a few others in my iTunes Library.

5.Do you use an e-reader, regular books or both? Only regular books, I’m anti e-reader. lol

6.During the long, hot summer days, do you prefer a trashy fun novel or something gripping and lengthy?
I like both, but since I’m always hiding out in the A/C, the long, hot days are better (it’s AZ after all!)

7.What genre do you read the most from?
I’ll ready pretty much anything if it’s recommended.

8.Do you like reading series of books and if so, which are your favorite ones?
Yes, series books are my favorite. I hate getting to the end of a great book and knowing I won’t hear from those characters again. My favorites: Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, The Mortal Instraments, Sookie Stackhouse books, Kay Scarpetta series (Patricia Cornwell) and the Alex Delaware series (Jonathan Kellerman).
9.What’s a book you absolutely hated that everyone else seemed to love?
I don’t think I’ve ever HATED a book, but I didn’t get the big deal about The Shack.

    10.What are your weekend plans?
    No plans, just house cleaning.

I would like to recommend a book I finished not too long ago! A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. It was soooo good. It’s going to be a trilogy and if the first book is any indication, it’s going to be an awesome series!

    2. What book(s) are you currently reading?
Right now I’m reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Now that the movies are over I can fly through the books (I didn’t want to read them first and be disappointed by the movie since I’ve been burned by “Great Book/Awful Movie” before – I’m looking at YOU White Oleander).

    3. What’s on your nails today?
I’m STILL wearing Golden Nightmare by KleanColor, but I think today I’ll try out my new Illamasqua that came in the mail, Raindrops.

I tried and failed numerous times to read Memoirs of a Geisha and I just cannot get into it. :-(

1.How was your week? Anything exciting happen?
Filled with minor annoyances, rendering me unable to focus at work. Nothing exciting has happened.

2.What book(s) are you currently reading?
The Glass Castle has been on my night stand for quite some time. I blame my 7 month-old, and the author.

    3.What’s on your nails today?
Sephora by OPI’s Yes, Your Lioness, but it’s peeling. I need to make a decision on what to apply next. Any suggestions?

4.Do you have a favorite book you re-read over and over?
East of Eden, Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk

5.Do you use an e-reader, regular books or both?
Regular books, and sometimes I download books to my iPhone

I almost always prefer gripping and lengthy but I switch it up to keep things moving.

7.What genre do you read the most from?
    Classic American Lit

8.Do you like reading series of books and if so, which are your favorite ones?
The last time I enjoyed a series, I was in middle school. Sweet Valley High and Sweet Valley University. Another series has not captured my attention enough to read more than one. I get bored and I’m always looking for something new or different.

9.What’s a book you absolutely hated that everyone else seemed to love?
    Anything Twilight, Harry Potter.

    10.What are your weekend plans?
Playdates. My life has been reduced to work and playdates. Maybe buy some new polish or shoes.

1.How was your week? Anything exciting happen? HOT! The most exciting thing was when it was not over 100 degrees.
2.What book(s) are you currently reading? Just finished Nefertiti by Michelle Moran and Sarah’s Key by Tatiana de Rosnay. Next up is “A Secret Kept” also by de Rosnay.
3.What’s on your nails today? Wet and Wild Silvivor on toes w/ OPI Black Shatter, Wet and Wild Grey’s Anatomy on tips
4.Do you have a favorite book you re-read over and over? Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre
5.Do you use an e-reader, regular books or both? Both. I avoided the e-reader for a long time, but I love it now b/c it allows for instant gratification when I hear about a new book that i want.
6.During the long, hot summer days, do you prefer a trashy fun novel or something gripping and lengthy? Depends on my mood. If on vacation, I like trashy. If at home, I go back and forth between the two.
7.What genre do you read the most from? Contemporary Fiction and Historical Fiction
8.Do you like reading series of books and if so, which are your favorite ones? I usuall don’t make it past the third book of any series. That’s why the Hunger Games trilogy was perfect!
9.What’s a book you absolutely hated that everyone else seemed to love? I sincerely hated The Road and couldn’t even bring myself to finish The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo. I have not read the Twilight series and only read the first Harry Potter book.
10.What are your weekend plans? Trader Joes and Costco!

    1. How was your week? Anything exciting happen?

Lousy. Yes, but not in a good way.

    2. What book(s) are you currently reading?

I’m not. I’ve got a to be read stack about to apply for its own zipcode, but I haven’t touched it in weeks.

    3. What’s on your nails today?

Toes, Color Club’s Wink Wink Twinkle because I needed something loud and wonderfully obnoxious. I love it. I’m going to do my fingers in some kind of blue later on today assuming no more disasters occur.

    4. Do you have a favorite book you re-read over and over?

Lots of them. My bookshelf is full of books I reread. If I’m not going to reread it, I don’t keep it. (Well, with some exceptions, but you know.)

    5. Do you use an e-reader, regular books or both?

Regular books. They’re cheaper when bought used and it’s one less piece of electronica I have to keep track of, keep updated, and keep plugged in. Maybe someday I will, I’m not ruling out ereaders, but right now I just don’t need one.

    6. During the long, hot summer days, do you prefer a trashy fun novel or something gripping and lengthy?

Trash. Most lit fic is lost on me – I demand an interesting plot.

    7. What genre do you read the most from?

Science Fiction/Fantasy and Romance. So sue me, I like Romance. It really should be filed under Fantasy, though.

    8. Do you like reading series of books and if so, which are your favorite ones?

Depends. I’ve ready WAY too many series which should have been only one book, but was padded to make more money. I love the early Dragonriders of Pern books, but since her son started writing them, they just plain suck.

    9. What’s a book you absolutely hated that everyone else seemed to love?

    Neuromancer. (Anything by Gibson, actually.)

    10. What are your weekend plans?

Eat. Drink. Clean up after everything that’s gone on. Drink some more.

1.How was your week? Anything exciting happen? Let’s just say it was dramatic in all respects.
2.What book(s) are you currently reading? A Portrait of a Lady by Henry James.
3.What’s on your nails today? Orly Bubbly Bombshell. It is awesome sauce and quite well-behaved for a glitter. I received two compliments on it!
4.Do you have a favorite book you re-read over and over? I don’t really re-read books in my adult years. I probably did when I was younger…The Witch of Blackberry Pond from elementary school comes to mind.
5.Do you use an e-reader, regular books or both? Just regular books.
6.During the long, hot summer days, do you prefer a trashy fun novel or something gripping and lengthy? Gripping and lengthy. Actually, mostly just lengthy. I read fast, so I usually skip books that aren’t thick.
7.What genre do you read the most from? Classic literature. Sometimes some contemporary fiction. When I was young I liked mysteries, and then horror.
8.Do you like reading series of books and if so, which are your favorite ones? I can’t really recall reading too many series. I read Nancy Drew and Anne of Green Gables back in the day. LOTRs. Most of Harry Potter in college (I think I skipped the last one?). And yes, Twilight (hangs head in shame). The only defense that I have is that I read the first one truly without knowing of the whole phenomenon; I just randomly picked it up at Walmart one day. Then, once I learned about it, I figured, well, I started, so, may as well. Plus, they’re thick, right?
9.What’s a book you absolutely hated that everyone else seemed to love? In high school, I’d say The Great Gatsby, Great Expectations, Of Mice and Men, and The Grapes of Wrath (not a Steinbeck fan, haha). Not that everyone loved them, but I guess they were picked for the curriculum for a reason. I didn’t hate Harry Potter, but as a series to me seemed to become more and more stretched…it seemed like the series extended just to keep producing books. And I only enjoyed the first Twilight…the rest were pretty darn bad.
10.What are your weekend plans? I’m sure visit my mom at some point. Otherwise, working on three quotations and a Powerpoint presentation that my customer is requesting by noon on Monday, yet won’t provide me with any feedback about so that I can accomplish it…it’s super-sweet.

    1. How was your week? Anything exciting happen? A surprise b’day party yesterday that we’ve organised for 1 of our friends.
    2. What book(s) are you currently reading? El Sombrero de Trés Picos (The Three Cornered Hat) by Pedro Antonio de Alarcón. It’s a classic Spanish novel. And yes, I prefer to read novels in their original language ~as long as I know the language~!!!

    4. Do you have a favorite book you re-read over and over? Edgar Allan Poe’s short stories.
    5. Do you use an e-reader, regular books or both? I prefer traditional paper made books.
    6. During the long, hot summer days, do you prefer a trashy fun novel or something gripping and lengthy? Depends on my mood… Just don’t make me read those ridiculous love stories like those from Harmony or Mills and Boon….
    7. What genre do you read the most from? Classic European litterature.
    8. Do you like reading series of books and if so, which are your favorite ones? No, I don’t like them at all.
    9. What’s a book you absolutely hated that everyone else seemed to love? I don’t know… People around me don’t like to read as much as I do. Instead, when I speak of the book I’m currently reading, they have no idea what I’m talking about….
    10. What are your weekend plans? Hope I have the chance to go for some shopping tomorrow morning. Then I don’t know: probably a day at the sea or maybe a bbq with friends at their country house.

    July 22, 2011
  • How was your week? Anything exciting happen? The weeks are all starting to blend together here at camp…my boyfriend sent me a care package which was exciting! Dude and I discovered Google+ ! Or should I say Google+ discovered me.

What book(s) are you currently reading? I started reading Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. Since I was borrowing it from a friend, I’ll have to drum up my own copy to finish.

What’s on your nails today? Nothing! I’ve been nude for over a week. But I did order Chanel Peridot, which is coming in next week.

Do you have a favorite book you re-read over and over? I think I’ve read Harry Potter books 5 and 7 at least three times each. I also love rereading The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton.

Do you use an e-reader, regular books or both? Regular Books. There’s just something romantic about them.

During the long, hot summer days, do you prefer a trashy fun novel or something gripping and lengthy? It depends. I do like Janet Evanovich but tend to get bored of light stuff easily.

What genre do you read the most from? Fantasy and/or Mystery.

Do you like reading series of books and if so, which are your favorite ones? I love Harry Potter. I also love the Abarat series by Clive Barker, which if you haven’t read I highly recommend. When I was little I could also read Nancy Drew like nobody’s business.

What’s a book you absolutely hated that everyone else seemed to love? Catcher in the Rye! I hated that book!

What are your weekend plans? Bowling tonight, then pretty chill Saturday, then playing in a concert Sunday morning and going to a Tanglewood fellows luncheon.

How was your week? Anything exciting happen?
Monday started off with extensive dental work; Tuesday out from work recovering; the rest of the week has been fairly uneventful except for the intense heat here in NYC.

Just finishing the first book of Game of Thrones.
    What’s on your nails today?
    Seaweed by Sinful Colors.
Do you have a favorite book you re-read over and over?
It Can’t Happen Here by Sinclair Lewis.
Do you use an e-reader, regular books or both?
I use both. I don’t really see me ever reading graphic novels or comics on an e-reader.
During the long, hot summer days, do you prefer a trashy fun novel or something gripping and lengthy?
I usually like something gripping during the summer.
What genre do you read the most from?
    Contemporary and a few classics.
Do you like reading series of books and if so, which are your favorite ones?
Harry Potter, Game of Thrones. Can I include the Walking Dead?
What’s a book you absolutely hated that everyone else seemed to love?
Have to agree with VV about the Road. Yes, some parts were shocking but it just didn’t grab me like it has others. I have always felt there was an enormous amount of hype surrounding the book. And my love for Viggo Mortensen aside the movie was only slightly better than the book.
    What are your weekend plans?
Beach with family and friends since I live right across the street from it. Maybe the movies Sunday.

During the long, hot summer days, do you prefer a trashy fun novel or something gripping and lengthy? I hardly ever read fluff. I’m kind of a book snob.
What genre do you read the most from? Fiction.
Do you like reading series of books and if so, which are your favorite ones? Nope.
What’s a book you absolutely hated that everyone else seemed to love? The Secret Life Of Bees.

  • 1. How was your week? Anything exciting happen?
We’re in the middle of a heat emergency right now so 911 has been busy. Mostly elderly people and 14 year old boys who think Mountain Dew is hydration.

    2. What book(s) are you currently reading?
Ahab’s Wife by Sena Jeter Naslund. It comes from a passage in Moby Dick where captain Ahab makes reference to his wife Una..this is Una’s story. Its incredibly well written.

    3. What’s on your nails today? Essie Braziliant and its going to stay there until the heat wave breaks because its so hot here that you can’t get a mani without bubbles.

    4. Do you have a favorite book you re-read over and over?
A Prayer for Owen Many by John Irving. This would be my #1 favorite book of all time. I buy used copies whenever I come across them so I can give them away to people.

5 Do you use an e-reader, regular books or both?
We have an e-reader which my husband said was a ‘joint gift’, but its mostly his. I prefer a real book. I like the feel and smell of a real book. Plus, he is a librarian and gets to pick from the donated books for the yearly fundraising book sale, so he brings home piles of books which we read and then return to the booksale stash. I don’t think I’ve paid for fiction since I bought the Deathly Hallows in 2007. (I buy cookbooks, though!)

6.During the long, hot summer days, do you prefer a trashy fun novel or something gripping and lengthy?
I can’t read trashy. It makes me crazy. Some fiction is more of an indulgence than other fiction but you won’t find any JD Robb in my house. Unless a leg on my couch breaks.

    7. What genre do you read the most from? I like historical fiction and biography but I have a bookstore-owning friend who has introduced me to a lot of great YA fiction. I read The Hunger Games series in a fever and I can’t wait for the movies.

    8. Do you like reading series of books and if so, which are your favorite ones? My all time favorite series was of course Lord of the Rings; when I was in school I read the whole thing every summer. I still have the yellowed, velvety-edged paperbacks I’d pack into my suitcase for every vacation.

    9. What’s a book you absolutely hated that everyone else seemed to love? It wouldn’t be fair to say I HATED them since I’ve not read them, but I have no interest whatsoever in the Twilight series. I don’t get the fascination and the skinny pale sparkly boy in the movie is kind of a turnoff to me. (Though I cried when he died in ‘Goblet of Fire’.)

    10. What are your weekend plans? We’re planning to see the last Harry Potter movie tonight finally, then I work Saturday and Sunday. By Sunday this heat is supposed to break and I can’t wait. I’m not accustomed to it anymore, living in the mountains five years has made me weak.

During the long, hot summer days, do you prefer a trashy fun novel or something gripping and lengthy? no preference

Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro I loved the movie, but i cannot get into this book.

How was your week? Anything exciting happen?
    - Well, guess u can say that. I was with a friend in Oslo when a bomb exploded at the government building. There were a lot of chaos, people were running in the street, people lying bleeding from being hit from flying glass and other objects. After a few hours of panic, I got home safely like the police told us to. At the same time I found out a friend of mine was involved in the shooting drama at Utøya. I don’t know if u guys have heard about it, but we sure are in one hell of a situation now, hoping it’ll soon be over. There are around 10 youth confirmed dead, and several laying dead at the beach and in the water. So .. I don’t know, would u say I had an eventful day ?

What book(s) are you currently reading?
    - Zombie Survival and The Way of the Panda.

    What’s on your nails today?
    - OPI’s Alpine Snow and some newspaper print.

    - A trashy fun one.

What genre do you read the most from?
    - Dunno .. Read everything.

Do you like reading series of books and if so, which are your favorite ones?
    - I don’t especially like series more that normal books.

What’s a book you absolutely hated that everyone else seemed to love?
    - Twilight. I read the whole series, and even before I knew there was a book number two coming out I know how it would end. It just took a long time getting there.

    What are your weekend plans?
    - I was going to Oslo tomorrow, guess not. I’ll go donate some blood and meet with friends to cheer each other up.

1.How was your week? Anything exciting happen?
I went swimming and was so out of shape, my knees were in massive pain a few hours afterwards.

2.What book(s) are you currently reading?
The first Sookie Stackhouse novel. It’s better than I expected, and I have to finish it by Sunday because it is crazy popular at the library, maybe moreso than Twilight.

    3.What’s on your nails today?
    Zoya Rica

4.Do you have a favorite book you re-read over and over?
I don’t really re-read, besides reading Harry Potter books again before a movie or a new book came out.

5.Do you use an e-reader, regular books or both?
I’m too afraid to break an e-reader to get one. Also I hate how expensive a lot of books are on it.

6.During the long, hot summer days, do you prefer a trashy fun novel or something gripping and lengthy?
It makes no difference! I associate it with Sherlock Holmes, because I used to sit out in the yard, sunbathing, reading a giant Holmes compilation.

7.What genre do you read the most from?
“Classics”, so I can feel culturally educated.

8.Do you like reading series of books and if so, which are your favorite ones?
I really liked certain kiddy series, like Harry Potter, Series of Unfortunate Events, Artemis Fowl, and His Dark Materials (not really for kids, to be fair). The Shopaholic books are also surprisingly funny. The movie butchered it!

  • 1. How was your week? Anything exciting happen? Not really; just stayed inside trying to beat the heat.
    2. What book(s) are you currently reading? I’m between books right now, but I just finished a series by Swedish author Camilla Lackberg
    3. What’s on your nails today? Nada! I just took the polish off my tips and toes
    4. Do you have a favorite book you re-read over and over? The first book in the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. I have read it probably 10 times in the last 15 years?
    5. Do you use an e-reader, regular books or both? Both! I love the convenience of downloading a new book whenever I want it, but nothing will ever replace the bliss that is sitting on the couch with a “real” book in your hands!
    6. During the long, hot summer days, do you prefer a trashy fun novel or something gripping and lengthy? Depends on what I’m in the mood for
    7. What genre do you read the most from? Contemporary fiction, although I read a little of everything
    8. Do you like reading series of books and if so, which are your favorite ones? The Outlander series, Harry Potter, Sigma series by James Rollins
    9. What’s a book you absolutely hated that everyone else seemed to love? Horns by Joe Hill. I didn’t actually hate it, but it was terrible compared to his first novel, Heart Shaped Box
    10. What are your weekend plans? Dropping my kiddos off with my parents for a week – hurray, vacay for mommy! :)

    July 24, 2011
    • OH! In response to question 8 – the Millenium trilogy by Stieg Larsson – HOW could I forget that one?!

      July 24, 2011
  • I’m late! But I love books, I’m having a blast going through your blog to procrastinate, and now I’m going to join the party (late!).

    1. How was your week? Anything exciting happen? Getting all the flooring replaced, so my poor books are stacked in boxes in the dining room. :(

    2. What book(s) are you currently reading? *A Few Good Ones* by P.G. Wodehouse

    3. What’s on your nails today? Four nails are Finger Paints’ Curators’ Crimson, the other is OPI’s Who the Shrek Are You? with an apple slice. It’ll be my back-to-teaching look.

    4. Do you have a favorite book you re-read over and over? Sure! The top two are Melisande by E. Nesbit and The Princess Bride by William Goldman. They make me happy, no matter what!

    5. Do you use an e-reader, regular books or both? BOTH though my Kindle 2 was destroyed in a horrible accident, and I have to wait until payday to order a 3. :( On long trips to the university I listen to audiobooks on my Zune.

    6. During the long, hot summer days, do you prefer a trashy fun novel or something gripping and lengthy? Trash! Trash all the way.

    7. What genre do you read the most from? Lately, English mysteries

    8. Do you like reading series of books and if so, which are your favorite ones? I used to love the Stephanie Plum books, though she really turned me off with the last one. I enjoyed most of the HP books, and I love the Miss Marple books as well as the Jeeves novels and short stories. AND I’m a Sherlock Holmes addict.

    9. What’s a book you absolutely hated that everyone else seemed to love? The Hunger Games. As a teacher, I’ve been hearing about it NONSTOP, but I thought it was unreadable. Heh. Maybe the problem is that I’d already read Bachman’s *The Long Walk* which seemed terribly similar (and a lot older)?

    10. What are your weekend plans? Performing in a play! Woohoo!

  • 1.How was your week? Anything exciting happen? It was meh. I got paid this week. Does that count as exciting?
2.What book(s) are you currently reading? Clash of Kings from the Game of Thrones series. About halfway through it and the good stuff is really starting to happen again.
3.What’s on your nails today? Sinful Colors Boom Boom
4.Do you have a favorite book you re-read over and over? To Kill a Mockingbird. Love it.
5.Do you use an e-reader, regular books or both? Both. I love books, I love bookstores, and that will never end. But when I have to go to say my little sister’s Fall Concert at her school, which is dead boring (I’ve hated it since I had to sing in it when I was at school there) and they turn all the lights off, an e-reader is great for that.
6.During the long, hot summer days, do you prefer a trashy fun novel or something gripping and lengthy? Gripping and lengthy. I can’t do that during the school year!
7.What genre do you read the most from? Fantasy. And classic novels. And a few romances.
8.Do you like reading series of books and if so, which are your favorite ones? The Circle of Six trilogy (Nora Roberts vamp books. They don’t sparkle). The books True Blood is based off (I can’t remember the series name now). The J.D. Robb books. And A Song of Ice and Fire.
9.What’s a book you absolutely hated that everyone else seemed to love? Twilight. So lame. What gives? I think I lost IQ points from reading that whole series. I read it to see if my friends were right about the hype… it didn’t live up.
10.What are your weekend plans? Stay inside and cool, I have no desire to be outside in this 100-degree heatwave!
